I second walts question, I woul;d like to see a thread w/ results, good, bad, or indifferent. I can care less I just want to know what people are getting from them with out having to read 15 pages of shit, and I sure as hell hope you don’t think I’m on a witch hunt, just want info.
I for one am interested in why cutting down the spring would not work. Is it because the remaining spring would have a different rate? I’ve got a Condor downstairs and maybe I ought to go figure this stuff myself but I’m not sure I’d consider everything pertinant.
I get an assload (just a touch bigger than a standard buttload ton) of email asking about this gun and that gun and what will work and what won’t and what slug to use etc… I only give advice about what I know, have observed, or believe based on reasonably presented evidence (I always qualify what I don’t KNOW or have not observed first hand).
These threads often lead to enough knowledge to avoid poor advice based on the questioners Planned course of action.

If the spring is cut ie say two coils are removed from a 12 coil spring with a rate of 10#s/inch the new rate will be 12 #s/inch.
so if the tune wanted 5#s/inch preload then the full cocked with the original spring would say be 20 #s in a 1.5″ stroke gun. Full cock with the second spring would be 23#s.
If that is what a fella wanted then it would work, just not the same as the fella trying to make the ‘kit’ work.

Why not? It would eliminate the preload that’s making it hard to cock.
shortening a spring reduces coil count making it stiffer as to pounds per inch rate.
So that wouuld change the characteristics that are likely desireable for performance.
A certain preload and a specific available force through its stroke.
Cutting a spring changes the spring.
I am hoping we can get fellas to provide data and solve the heavy hammer spring thing and get a shot string like Pabs

Here in the UK, with a properly set-up set of spacers, the thing is dynamite.
Why not just trim about the same length as the PW from the blod spring?
Exactly what I’ve been wondering. It’s not that hard to cut down a spring and make a proper base.
