Q:

condor vs marauder

Can the condor in .22 cal shooting eun jin 28gr pellets at just over 1000fps
be as quiet as the marauder shooting kodiaks around 860fps and is it normal for the condor to have recoil with a 24″ barrel and shroud. Im a new condor owner and Im really not liking this gun, is it even worth getting used to? I love the awesome power but i must say that airforce quality control isnt the best the some parts on the gun just feel cheap. the top hat certainly be improved………………… Opinions appreciated

Wow, I guess this target shut up the mrodders.

Good write up and you are correct about the AF trigger but I would not refer to the Marauder trigger as “match grade”
some will differ on this but I doubt they have touched a finger to a true match grade trigger on say a FWB or Walther 10 meter rifle or pistol.
This isn’t to say the Theoben clone Crosman is using does not give a great trigger, it’s simply not in the same realm as triggers on 10 meter rifles.
on out of the box accuracy Marauders are a roll of the dice…some shoot great, others okay & still other key hole pellets at 30 feet or less, {owned one of those} QC on Crosman barrels is next to non existant of course we can accept this on a barrel that sells in the twenty dollar range retail. Take a bore scope and examine Crosman barrels, about half are cut with chatter marks
not saying all are bad but even the most ferverent Crosman guys admit some are good only as Tomato stakes
That you got a good one is great, others have not been so lucky
Other than the barrel my main issue with the Marauder is its furniture…poorly designed coupled with crappy plastic hardware
all that can be replaced along with the barrel to make it one very fine rifle but then you have as much into it or more than a used Daystate
Its the same situation with AirForce rifles except out of the box they come fitted with a Lothar Walther barrel

try shooting a tuned condor and you will see that the condor will out shoot the marauder every time at long range

quote rbolton59:

38 shots both rifles…Both shooting Kodiak Heavies at 50 yards.
Marauder set to 2,600 PSI fill
Condor set to 2,000 PSI
Both Chronied around 980 starting off

I shot the first 38 from the Marauder and stopped when the first round was clearly outside the circle.

Then I shot the next 38 from the Condor.
You be the judge on shot consistency.

Marauder ended up with 1800 PSI left
Condor ended up with 1300 PSI left

The POI on the Condor seems to have shifted an inch or so right since the shot string picture from 7/2. Not sure why, so I still held dead on the bull to try and get the best comparsion I could.

The Condor is a killing machine no doubt.
I have used it on things I would definitely not try the Marauder on. It can knock down some serious BIG “PESTS” !!!

And I realize Tony does excellent work, I have one of his shrouds on my Condor and the thing is quiet as a mouse, but I doubt I am going to spend another 200 bucks on an 800 air rifle/shroud combo to get it “TUNED” to shoot as good as groups as the 480 dollar Marauder does right out of the box.

The wife already thinks I’m crazy for what I have spent so far on what she calls “my BB guns” 😀 😀 😀

I love My Marauders I have all three, But my 25 caliber barrel and shroud I got from Tony makes it a good gun in the Condor.
But in a Nut shell the Marauder shoots more accurate in the long range, but at 40 to 45 yards, that Condor 25 is a hoss for small stuff. I can’t pick between the two guns because I don’t shoot any further than the 45 yard range, . They are really making them right these days. 😀

If you’re handy with a computer its fairly easy to create a sticker. I put packing tape on the label before I trimmed it to size to add some protection from handling.

Here is what i was able to do with the tune that i have on the condor.

gimmick thats a good idea , i have that written down but havent put it on the rifle like that.

and here is my 10 yard , 25 yard, 30 yard ,45yard , and 50 yard different points of impact.top left,

+2 on range finding. I have a laser mounted just 1.5″ from bore (the same as a conventional rifle when scoped). The laser is sighted for 12 yards with shots closer requiring up to a maximum of 1.5″ holdover depending on distance (instead of the scope’s 2.6″).

Here’s my reference stuck to the side of the gun. Blue numbers are range in yards. I’ll post a more detailed thread on this shortly… post is here: http://www.talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15527

I noticed the picture cut off the top that showed which rifle shot what.
The Marauder group is on the left.

The circle is 2 inches.

I tend to believe the Marauder trigger leads to tighter groups
&
The high scope mount on the Condor leads to the POI spread from 50 to 0

Thats some good info, Thanks rbolton59 , I will try and shoot a 38 shot group with my condor with my current tune and see what it looks like.

I have never done that,i always top off and start over when the impact moves. and just like your group the impact always seems to start high left them settles dead zero for like 15 shots then moves low right for the most part.anyway i will shoot a group and get back as soon as i get the chance, to see how my tune works for this.

How big around is your circle,so i can make the same size.

so do you think that the tighter group from the marauder is from the scope being closer to the the barrel. more efficient air use or both.

The Marauder seems to be the better gun for someone that does not want to have to tune on or mess with the gun in general.

i had the same issue with the condor at first long and loud. but after sending it to tony and getting a complete tune up and a couple of mods like shorter barrel and shroud the thing became deadly quiet!!! the only thing the marauder has on it is its multishot capability. ive taken this rifle out hunting and no problem droping squirrels left and right. ill stick to my condor no matter what not to mention that i can change it to a .25cal in min and all the accesories that can go on it. call tony up and see what he can do for you.

How is the Maurader for shot consistancy, how many shots will stay in your group without impact moving around on the target as your pressure changes.

that is the worst thing about the condor for precise shooting as far as i see. i get maybe 3 50 yard five shot groups , before the impact starts to move on me.

I am talking 1/4” here, i usually top off at 2300, shoot maybe 3 0r 4 times to get the gun to settle, then get 3 to 5 , 5 shot groups, before the impact moves and consistency falls. ending air at around 2100.

So if i had a maurader and was shooting 50 yard groups, how many five shot 50 yard groups am i going to get that are all shots touching or close to it . before i have to top off my air. and start over.

yes the high scope mount makes the condor kind of tuff on the range estimation sometimes. but only for very precise shooting , i am using the 14 grain crossman, so there is only about 1” raise or drop from 20 yards to 70′ , maybe that make it little easier on me.

I zero at 25 yards , puts me 3/4 ” low at 20 ,30 and 40 just a little high 1/2” high at 50 , about zero again at around 70, and 4 to 5 inches low at 100, haven’t shot alot out to 100 so i am not for sure.

now the point blank, i have a laser sighted in for 5 yards. impact is 1 1/2” lower than my laser at 3′ or 4′. and 10 yards impact is 2 1/2” higher than laser.

for the up close stuff under 25 yard, i reference off my duplex on the cross hairs of the scope.

you can figure out what power to turn your scope to and you will be dead on where the small duplex turns to the fat part of the cross hair.

Mine is about 5 power magnification of the scope. for head shooting birds and such, if i don’t need to be that precise i am just past the bottom of the duplex where it turns fat again for my zero at 10 yards,

This condor is a killing machine, i can walk out into the garage and sight on a rat with my laser at 3′ and its dead without turning on a light, or walk out into the back and take a squirrel out at 50 yards,

with out spending twice the money i don’t think you can come close to this rifle,
My condor has pretty much replaced 2 other air guns, i have a M 48 RWS with scope for the longer range stuff in 177. i could hit stuff out to 70 yards or so, but not enough energy out there , and my M 34 RWS in 177 for the point blank stuff with open sights,

Haven’t shot either one a 1/2 dozen time’s since i bought the condor,

I do think the marauder is cool. i love wood on a gun.

( DAM EDGUN) 😉
