condor vs marauder
Can the condor in .22 cal shooting eun jin 28gr pellets at just over 1000fps
be as quiet as the marauder shooting kodiaks around 860fps and is it normal for the condor to have recoil with a 24″ barrel and shroud. Im a new condor owner and Im really not liking this gun, is it even worth getting used to? I love the awesome power but i must say that airforce quality control isnt the best the some parts on the gun just feel cheap. the top hat certainly be improved………………… Opinions appreciated

It has it’s place and purpose.
Pigeons, crows..etc, anything out past 50 yards I am taking the Condor – HANDS DOWN
Squirrels out past 50 yards – Condor wins again
Squirrels and anything else under 50 where a split second judgement has to be made on yardage – The Marauder is going to be with me no doubt !
Take another look at the 20/30/40 yard shots with the Marauder – six shots went thru those 4 holes and the 2 10 yard shots still would have taken out the head.
I’m too old to be guessing yardages and the day I start carrying a cheat card or rangefinder is the day I hang up my air rifle and long bow and retire to the rocking chair 😀
By the way, to answer your question, I’d still take the Condor for shooting the rats with. The Maurader is a very nice gun, too.
You just need to spend more time with the Condor to get your yardage figured out.
A lot of bench rest guys write out “cheater cards” with yardage and bullet drop compensation on them.
I understand you argument is with flatter shooting, and not having to compensate as much for yardage, but the Condor still shot tighter groups.

If you have 2 shots at each yardage, the Condor has better groups. It might be dropping more with each change in yardage , but it looks like the Condor had 3 – 1 hole groups, and the marauder had “stringers”.
It’s not just the Eun Jins.
I shoot Kodiak Heavies out of both rifles and have the same issue.
I believe it has more to do with scope height from the barrel than anything else.
The scope on the Marauder almost touchs the barrel
The scope on the Condor sits up 3 1/2″ from the center of the barrel to center of scope.

Marauder and Condor using Kodiaks Heavies and both chronied in the high 900’s.
Both dialed in for dead on at 50 yards.
2 shots from each rifle at 50,40,30,20,10 on their respective target.
The target was drawn as close as possible to the size of a “nutter” head.
The two fliers at 50 from the Marauder were after a full charge and it was getting settled in, as you can see on the 40 yard shots where it has started punching the same hole.
Now which one would you rather chase them tree rats with at 50 and under yards knowing one shot might be 10 and the next 50, the next 20 and so on and so on 😀
You said you use the “flatter shooting” Marauder for certain things..
My opinion is you are getting a loopy trajectory with the Condor because you are using the heavy 32gr Eun Jin pellets. Use the 21gr Kodiaks on the Condor which fly about 100fps faster than the 32gr, and you should get a flatter trajectory than the Marauder, which also uses Kodiaks. One shoots Kodiaks in the 800’s, and the other >1,000fps. Which one would have “flatter shooting”?
The Kodiaks are a little more accurate than the EunJins anyway. Give them a try. You also have the JSB 25.4gr Monsters in .22. Have you tried those to see if your Condor likes them? I stopped using the EJ’s on my Condors because the Kodiaks outshoot them every time. My .25 Condors actually like the JSB Kings just a hair better than the Kodies, but the .22 Condor loves the Kodies best out of all others.

This might work if I were after ground squirrels out West, but here in the swamps of NC where one shot might be 5 yards away and the next 45 away, I think I’ll stick with the flatter shooting Marauder.

She has her place and purpose here and I love the heck outta the gun !!
Used her last week on a job to clear out some feral pigeons on a friends farm.
All the shots were from a pretty long known yardage, she was sandbagged and performed like magic with the 32 gr EUN JINS.
I walked away a happy camper and the farmer had 67 less birds to worry about.
The right tool did the right job 😀

This might work if I were after ground squirrels out West, but here in the swamps of NC where one shot might be 5 yards away and the next 45 away, I think I’ll stick with the flatter shooting Marauder.
It is a nice avatar isn’t it lol! I’m like you usually in the thick woods but laser site is an excellent option. A lower powered scope on a condor could help also. Or get both!

It really is not that hard to figure out where the pellet is once you get your info put into chairgun. You can then change your site in distance as needed.

Good question on sighting in.
I had set my Marauder up this way per suggestions I had seen on one of
the Marauder forums – 2″ under at 10 ft – in-door target and you should be dead on at 50′ – and it worked so well I tried the same on the Condor.
Well 2″ inches under on the Condor at 10″ put me about 4/5 inches high at 50 yards, so I settled on 4″ low at 10′ and 2″ high at 50.
I have a garden about that distance in the back and know for sure I can hold just a tad under if they are “in the garden” or hold dead on when they are a little further back at the woodline.
God forbid they make in under the 50′ garden mark – I am scrambling like mad to figure “which dot – how far – hold over – hold under 😀
Just hand me the Marauder and dead on anywhere from the window to the garden – EVERY TIME – no need to guess – just center and watch em roll over !!
Props to the Condor though when you get out past the 50′ yard mark.
The Marauder tends to have a few MIA’s unless it’s a perfect head shot.
A 32 gr EUN JIN darned near ANYWHERE in the body will finish em off.

I had ordered the 12″ barrel just for the same reason you mention about trying to get around in the woods with that 24″ barrel and shroud.
It helped a bunch making it thru the bush, but still has the same flight characteristics of the 24″ barrel and I ain’t out there to miss 😀
So it’s the Marauder when I’m out in the woods !
Plus the 10 round clip makes for short work of the varmits if you do happen to miss that first shot.
Don’t believe everything you read about the Marauder and velocities.
I chronied a 10 round clip the other day with the Kodiak Heavies that started at 963 and ended around 880.
The Marauder can spit em out there pretty good.
I don’t believe I have an issue with the Condor/Accuracy/Quality.
I can sand bag it and knock quarters down danged near every time at 50′.
I just think it is a harder rifle to shoot than the Marauder and I believe that is mainly due to the trigger, but I’m not up to spending another 200 bucks to have it modified to find out – at least not yet 😀
Maybe when the wife cools off from the purchase of the gun, barrels and two shrouds I might give it whirl 😀
I know Tony works wonders on these beasts – I have one of his shrouds for the 24” barrel to prove it, (danged thing is AMAZING) and may have to sneak it out in the mail to him someday while “sweetie” isn’t looking 😀

Why do you try to figure out how to sight in the Condor for 50yds by shooting at a target 10ft away? Why not just shoot the Condor at the 50yd and zero your scope? Then shoot at 20, 30 and 40yd targets to see what the holdover/under is.
Anyway I agree with you that the Condor is not to take into the woods and hunt/shoot off-hand. I tried that once and never again. While my partner got his quota of squirrels and countless chipmunks with his Springer, I ended up with 2 squirrels and 1 Chipper. It was a big disappointment. I had to constantly watch that big ass shroud that brings it to a length of 50″, to make sure it’s not hitting trees and branches.. The Condor is not for the field. The only thing I liked was being able to put it down anywhere because of the bipod. Springers are much better for the woods and I ‘m sure the Marauder too.
BTW, there are Condors that have issues out there and can’t shoot straight/are not accurate. I ‘ve had some issues and got them corrected. Could yours be one of those? My .22 Condor shoots same hole at 30yds most of the time for the first 20-25 shots or so. Then it POI changes slightly as the power drops. I have discovered that keeping the PW very low (like 0-1) gives me very little recoil, uses less air, gets better shot consistency and accuracy improves. I also do this starting at 2300psi to keep the Kodiaks at 1,000fps or less. When I go to PW 8-9 or 11 it shoots Kodiaks almost 1,100pfs. Recoil increases and accuracy decreases, not to mention I get a lot less shots. The Condor’s trigger definitely leaves a lot to be desired, but taking that into consideration, it is still an accurate gun out of the box.
I ‘ve been thinking about a Marauder to add to the stable, but is 860fps with Kodiaks a realistic # (as the original poster wrote). I ‘ve been reading up on it and the highest #’s I was able to find in forums were low 800’s (820-830fps). I think 832fps was the highest I have seen so far. Maybe I ‘m looking in the wrong places.. (?)
