Could a frame threaded condor moderator be made?
I was just wondering if the inside of the frame and the outside (the piece that sticks in the frame) of the moderator could be threaded? The moderator would still not be able to be easily mounted to a firearm. Is this something anyone has done or could do? Or would it have to be too exact to figure out if theres an issue of clipping?
Thanks

Walt sent you a pm on something here is another version of what I am talking about this one works on a taper and can be taken on and off.

I initially thought I would weld on the tube extension to the frame, and still have half a mind to do this. I am fairly certain I can control the HAZ, and the loss of temper would not affect anything. Temper can be re-established by sending out for heat treat later, if needed. It’s just a major PIA, so I’ve fallen back to the backup plan, which is to thread it and ‘permatize’ it by loctite. I may have to further ‘permatize’ it against guys like Wok by just spot welding a portion after it is loctitted; so that it will fall into the same category as the short barrelled AR-15s with stovepipe flash hiders; they are pinned and welded, and that makes them legal even though the barrels are shorter than required; so a pinned and welded extension tube on the condor should meet the same test.

thats the one
not sure but thought they managed to put him away
forget about Wayne Daniels being his “expert” witness…whatta loon
Is this the one: http://www.constitution.org/2ll/bardwell/us_v_davis2.txt
HecklerJones:
are you referring to the adapters that mated pneumatic tool silencers to 1/2×28 threads?
that was Shooters Equipment Corp out of the Carolinas, formerly Rhino Parts until one of the guys was nailed on Constructive manufacture charges.
those guys never gave up until they were both in Club Fed.
Always wondered how Sylvia and Wayne Daniels, {SWD} stayed out of the Federal Pen
Actually, in the case of the pneumatic plosion silencers back in the 90’s – the individual selling the adapter kits was convicted even though the device INCREASED the sound by 2 db.
Yeah in theory it would make up for the decibel loss but practical, no. Funny as hell, yes!
Maybe this is just me and I am a little wary, but I don’t think I would want to send them a pipe bomb. 😆
I mean look at this way, they have seized your maybe illegal silencer, and your at home waiting to see their reply about how you packed it with blackpowder?
Perhaps this would not be a prudent course to take.
Don’t do that!
RC
Ok, so if the moderator reduces the report of a PB by one dB then it’s considered a regulated item… What if the moderator INCREASED the sound by one dB?
How is this you say? Well, inside a few of the baffles one could put in some black powder, so if the moderator is ‘attached’ to a PB and the gun is fired, then the heat/flame would ignite the powder and cause the report to increase thereby not diminishing the report of a powder burner, but it has no danger of exploding from an airgun using it!
mike, your not into the “V” sharpeners? I have a set of crock sticks that I love, and I believe they would fall into that category.
I think after this response I am just going to set you to Ignore, it’s a waste of bandwidth and my valuable time to get into these idiot purse fights with someone who doesn’t know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to the Regulations or indeed…how they are more often than not administered.
Now let me get this straight…because I was purchasing lawful products for resale at gun shows from a half a dozen well known vendors that were publicly selling them on the national market in SGN I’m the Ex Post Facto “Bad Guy”? Do I have that right?
Look you are obviously way far out of your depth here. There was not ONE thing Criminal about selling moderator parts sets back in the day, nothing. Numrich Arms did it, SARCO did it, J&G Rifle Ranch did it…dozens of outfits big & small were in it after the MAC bankruptcy auction and as noted so was DAQ, hell he was the main Tube man, cash and carry just like his fine AGs today. Get a grip on yourself, the law is a black and white thing…its usually Statist liberals that foam on about “skirting” the law or “loopholes”…you know like the “Gun Show Loophole” and how it allows people to “skirt” the law on Brady background checks…problem is the Brady checks have NEVER applied to private intrastate transfers…just another example of your left wing LIBERAL NewSpeak
So go ahead and call me “Criminal” just remember nearly every major Gun parts outfit was doing the same thing in the same period as were numerous small machine shops. Don’t ever buy a DAQ, after all it was made by the hands of known crook in your book and has a taint about it right?
Here is Dennis’ muzzle coupler page… he may not make tubes any more but he sells plenty of 1/2×20 adapters to fit your typical AG moderator on a Ruger, Colt, you about name it
http://www.muzzlecouplings.com/muzzle_couplings.htm
This is EXACTLY why 1/2×20 “AG” moderators are so damn legally problematic as they ARE readily adaptable to several firearms made with that pitch of muzzle thread and there are a number of folks manufacturing adapters to fit 1/2×20 devices on just about ANY .22 firearm. Also please please do remember that a moderator in and of itself is classified under Federal law as a “Firearm”. What this means is there is no prerequisite that you own a firearm for your AG can to be tagged as an unregistered, contraband item.
Okay, here is something else for you to digest…do you have any clue how many Sten SMg parts sets have been imported & sold? Number quoted to me in the 1990s was well over a quarter of a million! Now imagine that, wonder what happened to them all?
You can get a partial answer by going to the Wall Street Journal and reading the list of ATFE forfeited firearms posted a couple times a month. Time was you rarely saw NFA in the seizures, today its better than 10% of the listed items and growing.
Myself? I saw the hand writing on the wall well before the silencer parts rule change, had a few sets left and sold them to a Class II buddy at cost, just wasn’t worth the potential for hassle and I had made thousands of dollars off the racket while it was still legal
grow and adapt, some didn’t and were busted
Wont even bother to address your read on the Federal Court system
mostly nonsense…
Fact is you are ignorant of the law, hopefully Gimmick & I helped clear a littler bit of that up and you are not as bad as you were when this thread started. You were the ignorant assclown who bellered on about how mere parts were ok and did it in a nasty enough way that you got a chance to reap what you planted in spades. Don’t like being slapped over the head with a thirty pound dead fish check your facts before flaming others.
As far as your precious NRA they truly are the most powerful, best funded Gun Control lobby on the planet. This is coming from a once very active life member. The NRA has lobbied in favor of all sorts of compromise BS, hell where were they when Emerson went to SCOTUS, they were even notably absent from the majority of Hellers advance to the High Court. Where they really lost me and a number of other folks was when they took on that dirty old one time Liberal icon and senile bigot Charlton Heston as the spiritual figurehead of the organization. You are probably way too young or maybe were just asleep at the wheel as you have been apparently through most of your life but Heston not only wrote letters campaigning for the 1968 Gun Control Act, he actually went to DC and spoke before Congress in FAVOR of Gun Control in a very passionate speech joined by a number of other Hollyweird left wing assholes. At his core The man was straight left wing elitist scum.
You insist on tithing them, that’s up to you but I tend to support other organizations that have always seen the second as an individual right.
Some history for you…did you know back in the 30s the NRA actually published a letter from their President in the American Rifleman that called for the prohibition of the new .357 magnum round from sale to all but the Police & Military as it was clearly too powerful for civilian use?
I can get into their collaboration with Morgenthau in the creation of the 1935 NFA as well as the dirty deals made behind the scenes with the 1968 GCA and the Brady bill, {remember it was their man Bob Dole who slid that through during the thanksgiving recess and guess what, he received full NRA support in his run for the White House just like they gave it to that Rabid Anti gunner John McCain, innovator of the term, Gun Show Loophole}
anyways I choose not to support them anymore what so ever and mark my words, given the opportunity they will throw the entire Airgunning community under the bus as we really don’t count in their book
hell look what they did to the NFA community in 86′ when they decided the Hughes amendment was a fair trade off in McClure-Volkmer.
Enough on that, getting too political for a thread in this forum.
my main concern is that folks get the correct data on the regulations and understand the potential consquences when they violate them.
Again, I don’t see most of the shrouded designs as being something the JBTs are going to boot your door in and shoot your dog over
that said the threaded cans are easily prosecutable
just sayin’
I guess that was a long winded way of saying “NO”!
And what’s this I read about Ted Nugent sharpening with ceramic “V” Sharpeners”. 😯
I better not catch Ted sharpening any of the Knives I’ve made for him on a “V” Sharpner! 😉 😆
And a soda bottle avoids being classed as a silencer because its “form and function” is not to silence a firearm.
BUT we all know it can. So to show intent you must have a gun-to-soda adapter, some evidence of using a soda bottle as a silencer (blown out remains), its duct-taped to your gun, or maybe a dozen empty bottles in your firearm cabinet next to your guns. You get the idea.
A third party shroud/extender/silencer has a clear “form and function” of silencing a gun’s report, whether or not it fits a firearm “without modification”. It is readily adaptable for such a purpose and is therefore classed as a silencer.
Integral silencers have a clear “form and function” to silence the report of the AG/PB device that the manufacturer made. And there’s a clear line between using it for such purpose and attempting to remove it for another purpose (hacksaw).
Jirka: That was the idea in the old Paint ball silencers, ditto on Airsoft silencers and a few AG units
here’s the devil
if your design does a one decible level reduction for just one shot when attached to a firearm it’s going to be a regulated item
dont matter if the entire baffle stack self distructs during that one shot either.
Jirka, so long as the moderator can lower the report by 1db for a single shot its considered a silencer.
Any device that survives airgun but not a shot from a firearm will most likely lower the report 1db before it becomes unusable. Check the full legal text.
Its simply easier for the manufacturer to install a silencer into the frame design.
What about a silencer/moderator that would work fine on an airgun, but would not be able to handle the much higher pressure generated by a firearm? Considering the pressure difference, it should not be that difficult to manufacture.
