As much as I agree, I shall have to admit that some of those birds are indeed quite big. Also it seems to be more of them than just a few weeks back. A lot more in fact…..

If you scroll down this link you’ll find several images showing KalibrGuns’ brand new factory:

http://www.fieldtarget.cz/ostatni/kalibrgun-valdy-eu-s-r-o.html

– being situated right in the heart of EU:

-and now apparently running at three shifts a day in order to cover the backlog of orders. To me this clearly indicates that “availability” may be a lot better very soon. Nobody would spend that much money on a factory without being serious.

This “bird” is deffo a big one…. 😉

I find it difficult to accept that our new forummember’s name “Kalibrgunusa” is just coincidence. So far this new “bird” hasn’t made much of a sound, but it is there. Name indicates that there may be an “official” US representative already…….

Another one of these small “birds” have flown all the way from South Africa. There’s already an official South African importer/distributor, and it seems the “craze” is just as bad down there:

http://www.airrifle.co.za/showthread.php?t=27274

There may be representatives in other parts of the world as well……. 😉

Another little “bush-bird” sings all the way from the Czech Republic itself:

http://forum.gunshop.cz/kalibrgun-valdy-eu-s-r-o-t15873.html

Google works quite well translating into English, – and it’s fun to see that reference is being made to threads on this very forum….

I wouldn’t be surprised if we find “Parallel import” of Crickets in the near future. Suggested retailprices in the Czech Republic seem to be in the area of € 800-1000, which is a lot cheaper than the indicated USD 1.850 from the US distributor. And BTW, – didn’t ED just increase his US-price to some USD 2000 for the R3 ????

I have found “birdsongs” of more or less the same nature in several other corners of the world, – some even including my own images….

Remember Henry Ford ? And the statement that you could order the car in whatever color you want, – as long as it was black ???

The analogy to bullpups is obvious: If you wanted a bullpup, – you could order anything you wanted.

As long as it was an EDgun……. 😀

I assume the situation will change very soon…….. 😉

The supply situation and whether or not a new EDgun factory is openly being discussed on ED’s own forum. And I think this recent statement by the master himself says a lot:

(translated by Google).

I just beg and pray that ED keeps his passion for what he’s doing….

I’d much rather have a “handcrafted” EDgun that has been put together with passion and pride than a mass produced soulless “whatevergun” that may be difficult to service… 😉

That said, – how long do you guys think this “bullpup craze” will last ???

😀

– and NIK, – thanks for the “fifth P”, – may I have another one now please ???? 😉

thing for me is what we have right now are just birds in the bush
CZ barrels in .177 & .22 are known and proven entities in and of themselves
.25? Nope
9mm…sure, they were made for the Rada and having owned one I wasn’t very impressed at all
further we have ZERO data on the projected performance of a .25, muchless 9mm Cricket…I love the idea of the 9mm but if it’s say a 100FPE or less gun, count me out

price point…$1850 in .22
isn’t that the same price as an R3 .25 Long?
whats the current list on a standard .22 R3? As I recall it is a bit cheaper.

availability? again we don’t know yet
at this point it’s just a list no different than the Edgun…doesn’t look as though we will be seeing Boris at Top Airgun actually stocking these rifles, certainly not if you are creating one with an online build sheet.
so will one be able to get a Cricket faster than an Edgun?
who knows
just saying a lot of assumptions are being fielded

quote zocoloco:

In my view, ED seems to be facing some very important strategic enterprise decisions now. Will he aim for big (as in volume), – or will he lean back and take it step by step with no or little risk. He still has the best product in my view, – and he could refine that (multishot a must) to a level where his products may be perceived as the best in the world, – the “Rolls Royce” of AirGuns. And be in demand/successful just because of that. He has to develop his uniqness in a clearly defined direction……

Tim at Mac-1 is a good example of how it can go with just keeping to small batches and delivering a great product with an excellent resale value. It’s really what one does when they love what they do.

There is no need for Ed to go the way of Crosman, he has too much pride in his product and I hope he never looses sight of that. And when he does produce a multi-shot you can bet you’re ass it will be a top notch product. 😉

It was rumored that Allan Zasadny (sp) said the EdGun was not of good quality, I say rumor since I never heard it from a first part account. Well someone finally sent him one to tune and he said there was really nothing to do apart from some slight adjustments (which are needed every so often even with a tuned rifle). 😉 Needless to say he was impressed! No small feat right there! 😀

In design/construction and fabrication we have what we call the design/build trifecta.

Quality
Speed
Economical

Everyone (client) wants all three.

Problem is only two can be had and the third will have to suffer.

If the client wants a high quality product built quickly it will cost lots of money.

If it is of high quality but the clients wants it for cheap it will take a long time.

If the client wants it quick and cheap the quality will suffer.

If the client was extra difficult, wanting a super high end house but nit-picking the estimate and pushing the prices out of the realm of actuality we would draw a triangle with one of the three words at each corner and tell them to circle the two they wanted and ‘x’ out the third. 😉

Trygue just figured out where your money came from. Must be one great business guy. Marketing 101 for sure, great write up on the “Ps”. 😀

And the trophy for that prize is… yet another P (Piss Off) 😆 😆 😆

Friend Nik from beautiful Bansko,

🙂

quote synopsys:

Ah, now yer changing the rules of the contest to include 25 cal…! 😆 😆

Rumours are the Cricket people have designed a modular system from which 25 different models can be built, – with calibers from .177 all the way up to 9mm….. 😉

And even more interesting, apparently they’re working on a web-based ordering system where you can “build” your own gun from these modules (much the same way as you build and order a Dell Pc)………

Rumours I admit, – so don’t kill me if I’m wrong. But a facinating thought for sure……

That said, it is interesting to follow this development “from far”…..

The entire ordeal looks like a classic industrial/marketing scenery… 😉

I still remember the emphasis put on the so called four “P”s when I was studying for my masters some 40 years back. I believe it was E. Jerome McCarthy (I may be wrong… 😳 😳 ) who first listed these “P”s as the most important elements in any succesful market oriented business some time in the 60-ies. “P” as in product, – you need a product that consumers want, -“P” as in price meaning you gotta have the “corrrect” price for your market, “P” as in promotion meaning you have to have adequate ability to promote your product. The last “P” stands for “place”, – meaning you have to be able to put your product into the right market (availability).

So far ED has had the right product (the only one available), – but a lot of people have been wanting a multishot. And however good the EDguns may be, – Cricket now seems to be able to tap into his market because of a more “right” product. Not because of quality, – but because of product features….

Price: Although not cheap, Crickets may find themselves in a position where a slightly lower price may be a “game changer”.

“Promotion” has been virtually non existing from both parties, but EDs ability to use YouTube and also communicate directly on here and via pms is unique. Ed’s marketing can best be describes as guerilla marketing. The fun fact is that he “uses” us, – this fanatic congregation of lunatics suffering from all sorts of “Bullpupitis” to do much of the work. I’m willing to bet my last EDgun that what we all have been sayng on this very forum has been crucial to his fame and the success of his EDguns in the western market. And also now helped pave the inroad for Crickets…….

“Place” (availability) or lack of same has until now played what I would think of as an “unintended” role. The lack of supply has driven much of this “craze” as well as price. The fact that neither ED or Maverick has been able to supply, – has had the odd result that people sell their guns 2nd hand for three times the price they bought it…!!! Never happened before in the history of airguns as I know it. Of the two parties, ED has been able to supply some guns, – Maverick virtually none.

Until now……

I’m very curious as to the coming developments here. It seems Maverick may have gained access to some serious capital to build his new plant. Most likely via shareholders (what do I know….. 😳 ). More importantly he has built his plant right on the doorstep of his famous CZ-barrel supplier with JSB not far away. Seen from outside, a stroke of genius when it comes to production logistics. Apparently he has also moved his company out of Russia where conditions have been unbearable for exportlusting young entrepreneurs. A bold move which may be good, – but may be upsetting his home market. He has a huge downside if he fails…….

So far it seems ED wants to be in complete control (ownership) of his own operation. That in itself may be a limitation for growth. Cash is needed to build/expand any production facility. And if he really wants to stay on top of this “Place”-thing, – he needs to be able to deliver. His operation is still mainly in Russia and suffering from the conditions Maveric has run away from. His barrel supplier is far away in another country. A logistical nightmare at times. We have seen/heard very little about his Estonian assembly plant, – but he has on several occasions expressed his desire to start production outside Russia.

Sometimes it seems he may not know himself exactly where he wants to take his business……

I probably wouldn’t have known either……. 😉

Ah, now yer changing the rules of the contest to include 25 cal…! 😆 😆

I like the looks (and internal design) of the EdGun more myself but both are down right sweet rigs and different from each other. It’s nice to see the serious influx of bullpup style airguns!

I wish Ed was still making the Matadors in 177. 😯 It would be my go to field target and silhouettes rig for sure! 😉

Just saw on the Yellow that Cricket has a 24″ oal shorty… That’s pretty compact! And I think they are working on a 25 cal, but I could be wrong. 😮

Hope you get that clipping thing figured out. Sounds like a pita.

quote synopsys:

… They are tied for accuracy and the Cricket is slightly shorter… Which means the Cricket wins your little challenge. 😉

So when are you going to sell the Matador… 😯 😕

Yep, didn’t think you would. 😆

Zoco’s test targets from the Cricket/Matador thread…

Yep, you are right, not selling the Matador… YET! I’ll make the desision as soon as I’ve sorted out the clipping issue, which I believe is the cause for my R3 Standard’s inaccuracy 😡

As for the length, the Stanadard handles just PERFECTLY both out of a car window and in general! Simply the best bullpup stock design I’ve come accross so far 😀 And, as far as I know, the Matador has no short bullpup rival in the quarter bore department, which is the only calibre I’m interested in 😉

🙂

😳 Trygve you let the news out 😳 I was trying not to let anybody know I had gotten “bullpupitis”. My friends were all aware of the bad case of “airgunitis” that has be fallen me. If there is a cure I’m not looking for it. Best fun in my backyard with my clothes on in years. But you ought to try shooting out of a hot tub with your main lady and a bottle of wine. 😛 I’m lucky to be able to shoot right here at home… 🙂

Glad to here Jerry is coming along on his bullpup prototype. If they have Daystate accuracy and trigger quality they are really on to something. 😀
Good luck guys….. Oh yes I’m on that list also. 🙄 Like you said I’ve got it “bullpupitis”…… 😎

quote koljo:

I don’t give a damn about multi-shot, semi- or auto- airguns, be it bullpup or normal rifle length. All that matters to me is A C C U R A C Y !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The next most important thing I look for in a bullpup is L E N G T H !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To me a bullpup over a certain length is useless, my measure being the capability to use it comfortably out of my Mitsubishi Pajero side windows. That’s how (I believe) bulpups evolved, and I firmly believe they should stay that way 😉

If a Cricket (or any other bullpup) can beat an EDgun Matador Standard in the above departments, I’ll sell my R3 in a jiffy and buy the better one 😀

🙂

They are tied for accuracy and the Cricket is slightly shorter… Which means the Cricket wins your little challenge. 😉

So when are you going to sell the Matador… 😯 😕

Yep, didn’t think you would. 😆

Zoco’s test targets from the Cricket/Matador thread…

I can’t wait. I want the one that holds the magazines in the stock ( two of them ).

Just posted this on the Yellow. You guys know most of it, but a few new tidbits…….

Another prototype also in the works according to Steve. I just talked to him and this sounds exciting Kalibr moved manufacturing out of Russia to the Czech Republic so this could be big. Hopefully we will see a steady flow of Crickets coming in. Only .177 and .22 in Walnut stocks, but cheaper stocks are in the works (synthetic and Poplar) and .25 and 9mm hopefully coming the beginning of 2013.

Steve also stated his team here are working on a prototype Bullpup in the $800-$900 range that is already in the testing stage. He said the trigger on it and accuracy are equal to the higher end rifles like Daystate.

I am very impressed with these guys, I hope this endeavor keeps moving along in the right direction without any major hiccups and growing to fill the need for us guys that love Bullpups.

edit…..he also said 28 so far are on the list.

quote 1OldGuy2:

Crazy…. 😯 yes it is

lol.. 😆 😆 😆

No my friend, – it is not crazy……. 😀

It’s the famous disease “airgunitis” for which there is no cure. You most probably suffer from a sideorder called “Bulpupitis” which is flooding our lands and minds…..

Welcome in the club !!!! 😀

Hmmmm……

Who is behind this nick ?

Registered since july 20th ( 😉 ), – and not a word ……??? 🙄

This looks kind of “official” and one could easily be led to believe it has to do with all this “secrecy” and lack of will to come out in the open with some serious information….

I wonder why….

He was logged in just a few minutes ago:

Triggers my curiosity this…….. 😳

Hmmmmmm…..

Cheers 😀

Trygve my thoughts on the bullpup craze. The Cricket is available finally and it’s here now. I have gotten responce from the folks selling them, which is good. I have been on “THE” list for an R3 for some time now, I think but not real sure. I have sent Ed’s Tony a few e-mails asking for some basic information. I get back a form letter introducing me to a Edgun or nothing at all. Not the best in customer relations. Yes I still do want a .25 caliber R3 long but still do not know for sure I am on “THE” list. With the Cricket folks I know I’m on the list.

My craze for a bullpup all came from Ted’s video’s and your comparison of the Edgun and the Cricket. And yes I’m one of those guys who has never laid a hand on either rifle. Crazy…. 😯 yes it is.

Koljo statements go along with my thinking also. Handling and ACCURACY. Oh they are both very cool 😎 rifles also….. 😀
