drop in insert for TSS….DONE
Im planning on making a few drop in style inserts for the TSS that will work with the 12″ barrel and .177-.25 cal… it would be made of black delrin and run about $125 shipped…. so my quwstion is this… is any one really interested in having one of these???

However, I would like to try a mini-subssonic drop-in baffle in one of Jim’s Prod shroud extenders.

Actually they were doing that same wave cancelling with industrial engine exhaust stacks well before that, but that was a known waveform, which made constructing a equal and off phase waveform easy.
Hoot has a point, but you might die long before you discover all the phase creations and how to cancel without adding to.
Go for it, you probably didn’t have anything on your calendar anyway. šÆ
Greg, did you ever consider getting together with Jim Gaska, and coming up with a drop-in insert for his Prod shroud extender?
His shroud extension is quite effective, but I’m very curious what your drop-in baffle would add to the mix.
Sometimes, a quantum increase in sinusoidal waveform emission cancellation is the result of the fortutious combination of two forces, hetherto unlinked.
Or, in layman’s terms, can two complimentary approaches cancel out sound frequencies audible to the human ear, 20 Hzā20 kHz, between approximately 17 m and 17 mm, respectively, assuming a typical speed of sound of about 343 m/s? (Given of course ambient sea level temperature F, plus 1X ATM)
The jist of my thought being: When sinusoidal waveforms add, they may reinforce each other (constructive interference) or cancel each other (destructive interference) , depending upon their relative phase.
Is it possible Jim’s tube diameter length/diameter, plus Greg’s baffle induced destructive interference, might result in exponential sine way cancellation?

Your design is good, BUT hard surfaces transmit vibration (noise) too well.
Although the hair curler design looks cheap, it actually has tremendous advantage on distrubing the higher frequency vibration and the hair curler with a little bit of nylon fuzz improves vibration reduction alot by not allowing a hard surface against the shroud. The hair curler perforations also disturb the vibration wave.
If you can take your design to divert the pressure wave from going out the shroud AND then keep that diverted wave from coming in contact with the shroud until the frequency is changed from high to low, you will have a winner.

Airgunner- I made the baffles in the drop in thinner making more room and more effective but it collapsed during testing when used on a .25 cal TSS .. since I don’t like to make or sell things that fail I stuck with the design thTat you see… If I had more time and money for these things they would be aluminum and with thinner baffles….

Making a baffle of very thin material is as critical as the design. Therfore, a heavier built nicely designed baffle negates itself.
Greg, did you ever get around to making these baffles in Black?
