Q:

E-TacReg First Results

Finally got my stuff together and had enough air left in my scba to fill my new 53 ci tank.

2500psi output JDS reg and E-TacReg.

JSB Kings 25.5gr-24″ BSA barrel.

Very first string with 2800psi fill-
998 983 977 973 969 975 975 974 967 965 966 965 962 967 965 953 958 947 948. 19 shots,first 2 unusable. Not bad, but not as tight as I’d like. But remember, this is the very first string off a brand new reg.

2nd string with 2900psi fill-
983 979 973 971 971 978 969 977 972 975 969 975 968 967 974 974 973 969 963 968 958 952 947. 23 shots.Definately needs first shot off to clear from filling. Much tighter. Very pleased with this string considering its only the 2nd 😀
Ran out of light and air. I’m hoping the string will get tighter still as the reg ‘beds in’
Pleased so far……. I need to put another 500 pellets through it before I can give a more detail review. The gauge on the JDS reg is shockingly inaccurate 😯 It says 2500 when the pressure is 2900….

VERY pleased with the service from Jim. He has been very informative and helpful from the start, sourcing all the parts I needed and shipping them with th E-TacReg 😀 😀 Couldn’t ask for more as far as that is concerned.
Great guy to deal with, very fast and efficient.

Pab, a 3K burst disk is supposed to burst at 3K.

My bet is that the reg had some leak through the piston, probably caused by a bit of grit either on the sealing face at the bottom of the piston or on one of the O-rings. It could have been a tiny leak that was slowly raising your regulated side to tank pressure and then the 3k disk went.

The 5K is tank side, 3K is regulated side.

Dave

Ah, cheers Dave. Logic dictated that, but I couldn’t understand why the regulated side needs a burst disk?

FUCK, about 75 pellets in and it needs a strip down already???? 👿 👿

Any idea why it might have burst Jim??
The tank was a 3000psi and I’m guessing the 3000psi burst is more like 3500? Otherwise it would be popping all the time?
And whats that 5k disk for??
I can cope with replacing cheap disks, its the precious 3000psi of air lost thats the kicker….

The burst disks can be bought at Walmart or any paintball shop. They are standard equipment on all the regs and paintball tanks in the entire universe.

No need to worry, they are very easy to find.

Jim

I would say definately fixable, I would suggest that you remove the reg, from the E-tac reg body, pull out the piston and check the two o-rings, also check for any dirt/debris.

Dave

Shite, I hope its just a case of replacing the disk and not the whole reg….. 😥

Pab, The 5K disk is to stop you blowing up your tank whilst filling (Even though you have a 4500 psi SCBA tank that would never burst the disk even so it kind of serves no purpose.

The 3K one is for the regulated side, the reg layout and design is originated from paintball use, it wouldn’t be a good thing for the reg to fail and start filling the paintball gun to 3000psi or 4500psi on the carbon fibre tanks. So the design hasn’t changed.

I had a 3K disk blow after filling so just replaced it with a spare 5K one and carried on.

Have you got cameras rigged up around my house? I just went out to the shed to get an allen key and found a spare 3K burst disk from a distant reg. Its yours if you need it

Dave

Hmm good question. I think we are gonna have to wait for MM on this.

Bad 3k disk maybe? Hardware malfunction? That or maybe something is leaking in the reg chamber and it did what it was supposed to do?

YES!!
I was thinking the reg let by and allowed way over 2500 into the chamber? But why would that side of the reg need a burst disk? Even if it charged up to full bottle pressure which is 3000psi, why does it need to blow? It would just give you an over powered shot!?
I’m still thinking is the bottle protection. But that still leaves the mystery of the 5k burst disk…..
As soon as MM tells me I shall no doubt slap my head and cry “AH!!!!”

Thats what I thought, but the 3k one blew whilst the gun was quietly sitting there minding its own business! Must be the tank blow off. 5k one is maybe just plugging a hole?

Interesting. Maybe one for the tank and one for the reg chamber?

Yeah, theres 2,both on the JDS reg. One is for 3000psi and another at 5000psi. Not sure what the 5k one is for??

Ouch. Where is the burst disk located in this new setup. The reg?
