that little 45 would be tuff to hold , hell a compact full size 45 has allot going on.

I always for the most part load my mag stuff full house and then sum. i have 38’s and 22’s when i don’t want to get bossed around.

I moderately loaded the 44 down , for carry stuff basically 44 special velocities. The 357 was always maxed for carry loads,

I have had a love affair with the 44’s since i was a kid i guess.

I started shooting 44 at 16, and there was no other option but to master the bitch. took a while before i could take a 4” M,29 and shoot a 2” off hand group at 50 yards but i did it. I used to shoot until my hand would be swollen.

I bought a Tc contender , an older original one with the octagen 10” barrel and wooden grips in 30/30. very light, and will make a 44 ‘s recoil seem much less.one of the ways i was able to shoot the 44 much better,

Haven’T shot like that in a while, then i used to be a member of a full range that was 15 minutes from my door step, now i have to drive 45 min to shoot

Its tough to ignore the bitch while its beating you, but it’s All in your mind right.

I have a k 38 that i love to shoot allot also when i want to shoot the light stuff. hell i have the M.18 4” and the 6″ k 38 , and the 8” k 38 but sold it.

I have bought and sold allot of M.29’s and K 38’s trying to find guns that had the most cylinders that printed to the same point of aim.

I love to shoot , i would shoot every week allot of the times, now not so much because of the drive time.

I don’t think 99% of people are going to have to worry about shooting a gun out of timing Roach. , don’t you think.

And most use light practice loads for most part . I know what you mean about staying with big frame revolvers, that’s my preference too.

But to carry one all day while your working is not my idea of fun, the sucker was always in my way, a 4″ M29 was my first concealled carry, that didnt last long, 45 acp was better , but still in the way, i even have a Lou Horton 2 7/8″ M 29 with the k frame grip. thats a sweet carry gun

I would hate to think that i would get in a gun fight with out one of them, but dam better to have the small frome 38 , or 357 than not to have one at all right.

I still tend to stand by the idea of purchasing a .22 first then in time going to a centerfire that fits your shooting style
great choices on the rimfire would be any of the older Ruger, Colt and particularly High Standard semi auto target models. The Ruger can be had with a bit of searching in the low $300 range, the Colts and High Standards are usually above $500.
Of the High Standards the earlier HDM is a very fine piece, the same one used by the OSS in WWII with an integral silencer. Has an exposed hammer and wonderful pointability
further they can still be found under $300
the Later Supermatic Citation is probably the best of the HS line ever, look for one from the 1950s with the dovetailed barrel release and yes with these you can swap barrel out with the push of a button. It was a Silenced Citation the was taken off of Powers by the USSR after they smoked his U2
By the late 60s the CIA had shifted to the Ruger, mostly due to cost of the HS versus the Ruger.

Don’t get caught up in the newer is better hype…most everything being sold today is over rated trash compared to what America was producing prior to the 70s.

in centerfire revolvers you will do well to remember that even the older high quality S&Ws as well as Colts will all eventually lose their timing if you run them hard on a steady diet of +P or magnum loads
this is particularly the case with the S&W M19 or 66 which were both built on a K frame designed for the .38 special. The later L frames are better but not by much
for Magnum rounds you need the N frame as found in the M27, M28 or M29 and even those as mentioned will go out of time no matter what you do.

Centerfire automatics there are wide choices…
few years back the Germans sold off thousands of police sidearms that came to the USA. HK P9S, HK P7, Sig 225, Sig 226, Walther P1 and even Walther P5. Out of that lot the Sigs and the Walther P5 are both extremely high quality pieces of work
There are as well pleanty of Browning P35 HPs and ITALIAN made Beretta 92s about…stay away from the US built guns
The Colt 1911 is widely available and is easily upgraded. Perhaps the sweetest of the 1911s are the Series 70 National Match Gold Cups

Glocks are pieces of shit
its not just the lack of positive safties it also a long history of blow ups, cracked frames and other catastrophic failures that were mostly suppressed by the gun press and of course Glock itself.
The reason Glock became so popular was mostly due to their undercutting in the LE market where they were initially offering the G17 to major department contracts for little over production cost. This was the same game Apple played in the 1970s with schools…
when schools bought Apple PCs it was logical that parents would purchase the same device for little Suzi Rottencrotch
never mind the no where in the real world were Apple products being used in business
Glock did the same thing to sucker the civilian and rural LE market into how absolutely wonderful their new G17 was…if NYC, the Twin Cities, ad nasium adopted it it HAS to be good.
St. Paul canned their initial Glock contract real fast…too many officer ADs and blow ups and NYC ended up having to have Glock fit their G17s with an extra heavy trigger after a series of ADs, SIWs and worst yet, accidental shootings of civilians/suspects
bottomline its a damned dangerous design

Not saying the Glock isn’t effective, just that its severely over hyped and has a number of serious issues particularly for the novice shooter.

For a human being you only need the power of the 357, and in a small frame gun, it can have allot of hang time with recoil.

Personally i like bigger calibers, 45 auto or a small frame 44, loaded down to 950 fps, with a 255 g. hard cast , Keith semi wad cutter.

but if you are not use to recoil you need to stay out of the higher power stuff.
If you want a .357 Mag get a Smith M. 60 Smith . that way you can go with 38 or shoot 357 if you want. This is a k frame , (smaller frame, 5 shot 357 mag).
