Haley Scandalous, initial fill pressures and bore dimensions

I did about all I could today considering I did not have that stock as of yet.

I slugged the bore, it slugged out at .257.

I tested for fill pressures by filling to 3500 PSI and shooting one shot over the chrony and then repeating every 200 PSI unti velocity quit increasing, then I shot a strig with the 74 grain bullets and the 94 grain bullets. It was hard to keep it level over the chrony without a scope and holding the action, the speeds may in fact be a little faster if I had it perfectly level.

74 grains
3500 PSI=1074 FPS
3700 PSI=1096 FPS
3900 PSI=1100 FPS
4100 PSI=1088-1101-1083-1042
1101 is right around 200 FPE

94 grains
4200=970 FPS-1028-1005
top FPE is right around 220 FPE

Jack is sending out some more springs to raise the opening pressure.

And I am leaving to look for that stock at the PO.

I had the same thing going on with my corsair and cut 1/2 a coil off the spring to tame it down plus added a washer or 2 behind the spring, tuff to cock now but the air usage went down from 900 to around 500, also the power went down alittle, but the consistancy went way up. Hey, nice knives love that Damascus steel.

Yes that is a good way to check air usage, not all my fill nipples click when they activate so that works better.

I spent the rest of the day working on the faux ivory handle for my next Damascas USMC KBAR, profiling it and then cutting a spiral to the handle.

I cut the guard out of a solid billet yesterday, shaped it and then did the file work to the side. And I attached it with JB Weld, thanks to WOK and Mike.

Many thanks to Doug who bored it for me so I did not screw it up drilling the hole.

The handle is not attached yet, tomorrow I will set the handle and cut a round damascas plate for the end and put on a skull crusher on top of that.

I hope to get it done to show to my daughter at the coast, she has an affinity for personal weapons. She is a Buddhist, but loves personal weapons, hard to overcome good DNA.

Good to hear it’s 950psi, and not 2000psi per 3 shots. Clever way of reading the efficiency as the needle drops per shot……I never though of doing it that way but I’m sure going to be doing a lot of it now. Seeing, and recording how much air each shot is using as it happens thruout the shot string will provide some very useful info.

In the images, that reservoir looks pretty damn small under that long-ass barrel! Real interested in hearing the capacity of that air tube for efficiency calculations and such when you get the specifics.

Roach- did you ever ask Mr. Bowman what all he did to his muzzle brake other than re-drill the center hole for a .25? how large did he drill out his center hole? or would you have his contact info so I could email him?

Remember the 5 shot string I did used 250 psi. But that is 62 ci tank. I don’t know what the tube is on the Haley.

RC, that’s GREAT news then. 315+ psi per shot is more like it although the small bore gurus would frown upon that number…lol! But for a BIG/SMALL bore, that’s just about normal.

Well the other thing here is that you other folks with Haley’s on order will know what springs to get with your guns.

Now your giving Jack more work and slowing down my gun progress 😀

I guess when I get mine I will have take it and figure out different setups for different fps. I have century spring close so springs are not a problem.
