Haley Scandalous, initial fill pressures and bore dimensions
I did about all I could today considering I did not have that stock as of yet.
I slugged the bore, it slugged out at .257.
I tested for fill pressures by filling to 3500 PSI and shooting one shot over the chrony and then repeating every 200 PSI unti velocity quit increasing, then I shot a strig with the 74 grain bullets and the 94 grain bullets. It was hard to keep it level over the chrony without a scope and holding the action, the speeds may in fact be a little faster if I had it perfectly level.
74 grains
3500 PSI=1074 FPS
3700 PSI=1096 FPS
3900 PSI=1100 FPS
4100 PSI=1088-1101-1083-1042
1101 is right around 200 FPE
94 grains
4200=970 FPS-1028-1005
top FPE is right around 220 FPE
Jack is sending out some more springs to raise the opening pressure.
And I am leaving to look for that stock at the PO.

Just to see what it would do with the 56 grainers, I fired 3 of them with a 4000PSI fill.
I got 1175-1182-1142 FPS. highest FPE is 174 FPE.
These bullets were .002 undersize, so with a better seal at .257, I may or may not pick up some more velocity.
Of course I have no idea how accurate they would be and again I was shooting just the barreled action held in my hands. It was also the first time I have shot it with the muzzle break, the recoil was significantly lighter with the muzzle break.
But with a 90 yard zero in my Leupold VX111/Holland reticle, highest poi to 90 yards is 1.88 inches at 50 yrds. At 100 yards I would hold on the 1 moa mark 150 yards I would hold on the 7 moa mark on the reticle and at 200 the 14 moa mark and at 250 yards the 21 moa. I would bottom out at 270 yards on the 24 moa or where the heavy joins the moa section.
All this would be just using the reticle, never touching an adjustment turrent.
Speed of sound at sea level, I am at 300 feet is 1129, so this would be supersonnic to 60 yards. Keeping it supersonnic, with a 50 yard zero I wuold have a .75 inch height to my arc and hit .5 inches low at 60 where it would have 160 FPE.
Now that would be a coyote calling air rifle for sure.

The trigger is a timney and comes on Haley the newer Haley rifles.
I do not have a trigger gauge, or like I have written a stock yet so it is difficult to measure the effect of either the trigger or the Muzle break.
Jon Bowman tells me that the muzzle break he put on improved his groups from 3+ inches to 1+ inch at 300 yards.
I did not shoot the rifle with the muzzle break on it yet.
I suspect that most high pressure guns would improve somewhat from air strippers of muzzle breaks, that 4000+PSI air is ging to outrun the bullet and affect the base as it exits the barrel. I know it makes a differrence on my TalonSSS which operates on a much lower pressure. RJ Porter however gets great accuracy without the muzzle break at ranges around 100 yards, so who knows, I will of course try it both ways.
This break is made by Stoner for AR15’s so I had to open it up for 25 caliber bullets.
Hopefully that stock will be in on Fraday and I will have some calm weather so I can give you guys an idea how it shoots.
The barrels groove diameter was a surprise to me coming in at .257. Luckily I have a good range of 25 caliber sizing dies, .253,.255,.257 and .258.
I may also try to cast some LBT bullets with a lot of tin, 20-1, in them to see if I can get them to drop at .257. Pure lead they drop out at 56 grains and .256, so I may be able to shoot them as they come from the mold and I suspect they will weigh in at 55 grains.
Jack tells me it is very easy to change out the springs in this rifle, so I hope to be able to tune it for the 55, 74 and 94 grain bullet to shoot at just below the transonnic. Although it would be interesting to see how far the 55 grain LBT’s would stay supersonnic.

nice write up! is that a standard trigger on that rifle? or is that something you modified to work? how’s that muzzle brake working out?
Nice numbers RC. I agree with MAW. I was thinking 4000 would give you a good number also just above 1100 fps. I’m betting 1110 fps based on my “EXPERTISE”…..lol! Couldn’t help it. But i will guess that number at 4000 psi.

Yeah Doug, that is right up there where your at, but stiffer springs will give me more.
Also I may have gone by my highest velocity by going in 200 PSI jumps.
It really is a cool looking action, sleek I guess would be a good word for it.
I love the idea of the Timney trigger, Lord knows I have had so many of them over the years.
My Ranger is a one bolt gun, I did not iinow how I would like a two bolt rifle, but it did not take more than a couple of shots holding what was a clumsy affair being just a barreled action to realize the value and safety of a two bolt system.
Certainly worth waiting for.
I took the Ranger 45 diary and just turned it over and started writng from the other side of the pages.

You know tweaking and testing and having problems to solve with a gun is actually more fun the pulling a gun out of a box and that’s it, now shoot it.

Doesn’t look like I’m doing to bad then with my .257 condor.
3250 psi is 1074 fps with the valve from my .308
3250 psi is 1066 fps with the valve I made for it.
I still have some tweaking to do.

That is what I am thinking, might even gain a few FPE if at 4100 I am going past the ideal pressure.
But as soon as I get some different springs it will change.
Lot of experimenting to do here yet, but that is the fun of it.

4000 is probably the peak, maybe try a 4050 fill and string.

I think these 32-36+inch-barreled air arms should be referred to, and classified as “Turret Guns”……ideal for long range shooting from stationary/elevated positions.
Considering all the discussion generated by your in-depth .45Ranger testing posts, I highly anticipate your upcoming Scandelous reports.
Don’t forget to record those end-of-fill pressures LOL ( I often forget to do that myself).
