Q:

I’m Stepping Away from BullPups !

I love the concept of the gun, great for packing and carrying on a single point sling.
I’ve owned, hunted, shot several pups in the past few years, and tested, shot, handled a few more.

I’ve come to the conclusion the the Pup isn’t for me, reason why ?

…..scope height, the bullpup design just don’t aloud you to get the scope as close to the bore as a rifle does, and in my type of hunting where shot distance is always an unknown and there’s not much time to play with mildots the excessive height of the scope is detrimental.

In the end I can achieve the same degree of packability with a folding or detachable stock rifle, and a carbine is just as comfortable in a single point sling.

so in the future I’ll concentrate on carbines with either a detachable or folding stock for tough hunts and the normal wood stock rifles for blind/hide hunts.

Guess my next project will be to make one of the said stocks for my MAX-ML .45 bull pup ;D ;D ;D

Bye bye BullPups !

I have used them like that and I have used M4 and a 300 black honey badger for very close work. I have had some time behind a trigger. Again I don’t really care if you want to hunt hogs like an Argentinean. The reasons you are giving are what I’m criticizing not your choice.

What part of the body where you shooting ? …let me guess, not the brain I’m sure.

so you are telling me that a gun with a high scope zeroed at 25 yards wont shoot over an inch low at 10 ?

You see ? I’m not using a high power rifle to blast things where shot placement can wander several inches, I’m using a low power airgun where precision is paramount, the precise brain shot is key, in the heat of the moment I want/like to put the crosshair there and shoot, I have no time to think, is it hold over or hold under ? LOL

Again you talking outta your ass with your examples, and Now I’m starting to think you so cough up with the BullPup trend that you feel extremely Butt hurt if someone is not bowing to the almighty BullPup :biggrinn: :biggrinn: :biggrinn: :biggrinn:

I’m with leddy here on this one. It is a poor workman who blames his tools.

Geez, you guys really dumb,…..I killed a dozen Hogs and other stuff with BullPups

So in the end is not like I didn’t give BullPups a fair shake.

Could I keep going on killing with them ?…….Absolutely.

Did I learn about their limitations ? …..Absolutely

Now since I’ve never advocate that people should sell or stop buying Bullpups I find it funny that some get all Butt hurt when I decide that for personal applications I prefer the rifle configuration over the Pups :biggrinn: :biggrinn:

Furthermore unless you ever used them anywhere near the situations I did any comment is pretty much irrelevant and you just speaking outta your ass :biggrinn: :biggrinn: :biggrinn:

I remember when Dirty Harry was killing all kinds of hogs in Hawaii with his Condor and people thought it was fake because no one was killing hogs with them at that time…lol

I like this quote from someone on an other forum.

I once had an AR15 that was very accurate, but it had a short lifetime shooting varmints because of its high scope mounting. Too difficult to judge holdover.

Those issues were resolved after the 2nd battle of fallugah. Marines had to engage targets at a distance from rooftops, then go door to door sweeping houses. In many instances a target at close quarters was gut shot rather than hit center mass and required additional hits to go down. Trijicon then began producing acog scopes with doctor optic red dots fitted to the top. This setup caused an akward check weld and later evolved into the offset mount like this http://www.laruetactical.com/angled-cqb-mount-micro-t-1-lt724

I used the red dot mounted over the scope in a cheap Burris rings for years without any issue.

Nomadic Pirate,

Your observations are very correct. My .22 Vulcan is not a hog gun and I’m not a hunter. You are doing a great job and present fantastic hunts. But the differences between an evanix max and vulcan .25 are significant in my limited knowledge.
Also, I am new to the bullpup style. So when for the first time I see an expert knocking the bullpup style I became curious and observed that while you list a dozen rifles they are all one very good brand. I would guess for good reason you are partial to that brand as I was towards AF air rifles even thou I started out modifying them and still have a greatly modified .257 Condor in the makings. I an just saying that it appears that you are walking away from one model of an otherwise good brand of air rifles. That should not necessarily reflect on the very successful ed Guns, Krickets, and new featured Vulcan.

You did very well in explaining why the max doesn’t suit your style or use but I felt your reputation and generalized Title of this thread might be incorrectly misleading to new air rifle buyers that may never have the opportunity to hunt wild bore. Albeit, like yourself I am man enough to shoulder a little criticism as that is what makes the sport interesting by AIRING our opinions. And you’ve still got me out classed at least 10,000 Xs.

I look forward to all your reviews a exciting hunting adventures. Especially when you find a new innovative folding stock air rifle.

Are you saying if Nomadic said he was stepping away from carbines you would think he was against all carbines? If you really read what he is saying, you would truly understand hm a bit better. And I certainly am not here to speak for him, but if some f the “other brands” gave him the same power for his application, he wold be all over it. That’s why he has tested and tried so many other guns.

Keith.

Some look at a bull pup and decide just by looking at it that it is not for them and their style of shooting.

Others spend a lot of $$ to find out the same because they are not able to determine it just by looking at it  :butkick:

There is a lot of difference between the max and Vulcan. Looks like the ace you have to put your cheek is higher and although the stock butt looks really nice, it looks to high also. Is that the bolt way back there by your cheek ❓ di you have to hand it off to be cocked while you grab another rifle ❓

I have ted for many years but mw .22 Vulcan has a 1″ kill zone from 15 to 53 yards.

I see that you really, really need to talk about your puny Vulcan .22

Also I see you quite dumb since I never said anything bad about BullPups nor I told anybody not to buy them, instead I only mentioned that for “MY” applications a rifle configuration is better and since I killed a dozen hogs will Bullpups I think I gave them a fair shake, but I guess keep talking about your Vulcan .22 if it makes you feel like a man :biggrinn: :biggrinn: :biggrinn:

Scope height over the bore is a well documented thing and for “ME” bullpups have more disadvantages than advantages, but than I see you have AirForce guns, so now it all makes much more sense πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

ho yeah, BTW I only need one shot so I’m not in a big rush of reloading πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

I read everything, It all makes since, But I am still confused. But I am a novice, I learn from the masters,
Its all good, Just lots of information to upload,,,
Mike

It’s hard, it hard to say if one doesn’t live the hunting life style that Manny does taking down big game !!

Hard also to hear that from you Manny, just saying ya kind of gave me the BP fever.

Understand hi power big bore trajectory can be an issue to compensate with so many different guns at your hand also.

I have a hard time with just 2 pups so I tuned them to the same trajectory, so same holdovers comps.
It helped makes it easier to get use to for me, less confusion over the years.

Maybe just stick to one or two of your favorite pups Manny will help with the frustration in compensating with each ?
