I may be onto something here……….
………anyway, been experimenting again with my stealth/talon silencer and, i have concluded the the 12 inch barrel is too short to eradicate the muzzle crack to an acceptable level no matter how i pack the silencer….even at 11.6 ft lb its still quite a crack…..so…….i decided to take the end off the silencer and take out all the packing and replace it with a 12 inch length of plastic tube (with some electrical tape wrapped around it, it slides into the end of the silencer quite snugly) with a bung at the muzzle with an appropriate size hole, so 5inches of the pipe is in the origional silencer and 7inches protruding from the end…..guess what?…..nice and quiet! 😀 So, took it all apart again and stuffed 4 inches of scotchbrite wrapped around a spring in the end of the pipe and, a bit quieter again………..but heres the thing, i noticed that after each shot, the pipe moved forward about an inch, i dont mean that after a few shots the thing dropped out, it only moved an inch on the first shot and then stayed there (interesting methinks) so anyway to countermand this, i taped the joint between the pipe and the origional silencer to prevent this movement and guess what? its louder again! (not as loud as the origional silencer) but still good. So, off with the tape again so its free floating again and after each shot, pushed the tube back down all the way home and its all nice and quiet……you can see what im getting at here….the forward movement of the plastic pipe is absorbing a considerable amount of energy (noise)……all i need now is a return spring! 😆 😆 😆 ……….seriously tho i think i may be onto something here, and i can start shortening the length of the pipe to see what happens and find the optimum length etc………

it may well do sss………but these bungs im using are about 1 1/4inch long and i get a hunch that this is a useful factor, especially at the muzzle end…..infact i might try see what happens if i remove the muzzle washer and let the pellet exit via just the rubber bung which is where we get most of the noise from 🙂
How about 1″ OD rubber fender washers pressed against a steel fender washer. Does that have a similar effect?
😀 well, i think i now have it sorted……..i shall try to post some pics of the prototype at a later date, but for the moment this is what i have done……..
1. I have ditched the scotchbrite in favour of felt….the difference is VERY noticable
2. I have procured 2 round black rubber door stops, the type with a hole thru the centre so u can screw them to the floor, these fit very tightly (hammer em in) inside a 34mm o.d.plastic waste pipe. The first one protrudes from the end of the pipe about 15mm (muzzle end) the back one sits flush with the back of the pipe (pipe being aprox 5inches long) inbetween the 2 bungs there is a half inch diameter curler, tightly wrapped with felt NOT SCOTCHBRITE
3. This assembly now fits snuggly (with some insulation tape wrapped around it) inside a 40mm o.d plastic waste pipe with a 1/4 inch hole washer epoxied to the end (muzzle) the end with the protruding bung sits tightly against the washer. This larger pipe is 9inches long, with the firsrt assembly inside it, it is still of course, 9 inches long………so the back section of the pipe is empty and is 4inches long.
4. This whole assembly (in my case) slides very snugly inside the the original (and empty) silencer that came with the gun, all the way down the full length. The whole thing is of course still 9inches long.
No bullshit, this is quiet and i think the key is using the rubber bungs to create the chambers rather than washers……..i will experiment a bit further as i seem to remember in my homebrewing days that the large glass demijohns for fermenting wine had nice hard rubber, slightly tapered bungs with a nice sized hole thru the middle, i cannot remember the diameter of these bungs but i think they are about right and, readily available………..

I need a 9″ piece of the thin wall tubing 1″ O.D. Thought I had some left, but looked all over this morning and can’t find it 🙁 Place I get it from won’t sell less than 3 feet…and like I said, I only need a 9 inch piece..Anybody got one they can live without ? All this talk has got me inspired to try another one….need the tube first..Let me know here or send me a PM….thanks !
😆 i said id report back on my latest configuration…….and the verdict is…..its pants 😆 so, back to the drawing board and hopefully il pick up some felt tomorrow 🙂
Another one to try is mr. muscle magic eraser original – made of melamine which is know to have good sound isolation properties. I wouldn’t use it in the first chamber though as it may take too much punishment there.
