Q:

I may be onto something here……….

………anyway, been experimenting again with my stealth/talon silencer and, i have concluded the the 12 inch barrel is too short to eradicate the muzzle crack to an acceptable level no matter how i pack the silencer….even at 11.6 ft lb its still quite a crack…..so…….i decided to take the end off the silencer and take out all the packing and replace it with a 12 inch length of plastic tube (with some electrical tape wrapped around it, it slides into the end of the silencer quite snugly) with a bung at the muzzle with an appropriate size hole, so 5inches of the pipe is in the origional silencer and 7inches protruding from the end…..guess what?…..nice and quiet! 😀 So, took it all apart again and stuffed 4 inches of scotchbrite wrapped around a spring in the end of the pipe and, a bit quieter again………..but heres the thing, i noticed that after each shot, the pipe moved forward about an inch, i dont mean that after a few shots the thing dropped out, it only moved an inch on the first shot and then stayed there (interesting methinks) so anyway to countermand this, i taped the joint between the pipe and the origional silencer to prevent this movement and guess what? its louder again! (not as loud as the origional silencer) but still good. So, off with the tape again so its free floating again and after each shot, pushed the tube back down all the way home and its all nice and quiet……you can see what im getting at here….the forward movement of the plastic pipe is absorbing a considerable amount of energy (noise)……all i need now is a return spring! 😆 😆 😆 ……….seriously tho i think i may be onto something here, and i can start shortening the length of the pipe to see what happens and find the optimum length etc………

Cheers 🙂

Just keep on tryin’…sounds like you’ve made progress already…just keep trying!!!

sorry guys, i didnt make it clear that i live in Great Britain and so silencers are totally legal, so no restrictions there, however, as you are probably aware i am restricted to 12ft lbs of muzzle energy, so no im nowhere near going supersonic! (not unless my chrony is malfunctioning 😯 ) so u can see my frustration with the loud crack/low muzzle energy…….you guys over there with 12inch talons at 25ftlb plus must have to wear ear defenders….so whats the story? i dont mind admitting that im somewhat perplexed 😕

No information in your profile 🙄 🙄 🙄 But I’m thinking, that since you keep saying “silencer” you are located in some European country, where those are legal? Also, you mention under 12fpe, which is another European thing…not applicable in US……ANYHOW, like the man said..”keep at it” you just may very well come up with something new and mo’ bettuh..On my TSS, the combination of factory shroud and drilled barrel spacers and frame…makes it VERY quiet..but it DOES still have a bit of “cracK” that prevents it from the highly sought after mouse fart quiet level..Please keep us advised of your progress and of course PICTURES are always welcome and worth a 1000 words 😉

Are u going supersonic?

hi ninja……no, not the frame, i mean the screw on beancan silencer within which iv tried the washers and springs thing but to no avail, infact tried various configurations and materials to very little effect, hence the above experiment in increasing the silencers length…..but it all also depends on what is considered loud…..whats frustrating me is that 11.6ft lb im still getting a CRACK!…..how would u describe your noise?

When you keep saying silencer….. do you mean the frame?

You know you can just get 1″ fender washer’s and use some pipe or spring’s as spacer’s for the washers in the empty frame space to quieten down a Talon SS right?

you know, the wheel they say was likely discovered by accident…keep it up 😎
