I may be onto something here……….
………anyway, been experimenting again with my stealth/talon silencer and, i have concluded the the 12 inch barrel is too short to eradicate the muzzle crack to an acceptable level no matter how i pack the silencer….even at 11.6 ft lb its still quite a crack…..so…….i decided to take the end off the silencer and take out all the packing and replace it with a 12 inch length of plastic tube (with some electrical tape wrapped around it, it slides into the end of the silencer quite snugly) with a bung at the muzzle with an appropriate size hole, so 5inches of the pipe is in the origional silencer and 7inches protruding from the end…..guess what?…..nice and quiet! 😀 So, took it all apart again and stuffed 4 inches of scotchbrite wrapped around a spring in the end of the pipe and, a bit quieter again………..but heres the thing, i noticed that after each shot, the pipe moved forward about an inch, i dont mean that after a few shots the thing dropped out, it only moved an inch on the first shot and then stayed there (interesting methinks) so anyway to countermand this, i taped the joint between the pipe and the origional silencer to prevent this movement and guess what? its louder again! (not as loud as the origional silencer) but still good. So, off with the tape again so its free floating again and after each shot, pushed the tube back down all the way home and its all nice and quiet……you can see what im getting at here….the forward movement of the plastic pipe is absorbing a considerable amount of energy (noise)……all i need now is a return spring! 😆 😆 😆 ……….seriously tho i think i may be onto something here, and i can start shortening the length of the pipe to see what happens and find the optimum length etc………

Powdweburner–YES,,,the LDC I made for my S410 has that inside, and it TRULY is “mouse fart quiet” Now that I think of it, I could put together another LDC with the felt ,,say 5 inches long and just mount it on the barrel, inside the shroud on my TSS ..You can buy “empty” muzzle brakes from

im beggining to think that Powderburner and Sawtime are correct in ditching the scotbrite in favour of felt…..u can hold a piece of scothbrite tight to your mouth and breath perfectly normally thru it and it seems obvious now that u need something that offers more resistance….iv already tried loft insulation (no good) and i read somewhere that the stuff used inside speaker cabinets can be used, but il try the felt first as i know my mum will have some in her linen cupboard 😀
Have any of you tried just a little bit of water in your shroud? Maybe just enough to wet the felt or Scotch Brite would do the trick for backyard use. I know that firearm supressors can be brought down another 10db just by adding 5-10 drops of water. Shooting a supressor “wet” is very common with firearms and works incredibly well with some designs.
I know the pressures are far different in an airgun shroud, but I was wondering if anyone has tried this.
My TSS is very mouse fart like, spittin Kodiaks out of a 12″ 22 tube at around 800 fps, the only thing I hear is hammer slap and an nother crow bittin the dust 🙄
My 21″ 25 cal with is pretty hush hush with GTBJ LDC
and tha spits 25 kodiaks out about the same if not more
Maybe my hearimg is f-cked from all the power tools and what not

hey tatsumi, great pics, but to be honest, i have already tried most of the methods you have outlined which did make it quieter but not quiet enuf for me, i think the way forward 4me now is to have made a frame extender the length of which i can determine via experimenting with the length of the plastic tube i am working with at the moment………………..Packrat, loving the idea of vice mounting and remote firing with a length of string (thats my kind of experimentation 4sure) despite the possible dangers, so i thought why not just let the wife shoot it while i stand 15 yards away but then quite naturally the inherant dangers in that quickly had me decideing its safer with a vice and some string………..maybe il just wait till my dad comes round in the week, trouble there is hes in his mid 70s and did national service and so is quite fond of a shooting session…….il never be able to prize it out of his hands! (truth is hes a better shot that me, and i do it a few time a week and he just does it occassionally, when he comes to visit!) but hey, thats dads 4u, and i certainly wouldnt want it any other way 😆 😆 😆 😆
I too have an AA gun 😎 mine is an S410, in .22 caliber..It has the full shrouded barrel , so I drilled my TSS barrel bushing(front one) , and the frame, since that is basically the same set-up as the S410..my TSS is neighbor friendly (fortunately I don’t have any though 😀 )
To know for sure what the TSS sounds like, I put it in a gun vice..aimed at my target backstop, then tied string to the trigger and wrapped it around so that I could pull the trigger , with that string, when standing in front of the gun—OFF TO THE SIDE A GOOD BIT 😆 😆 😆 So, I got about 10 yards in front of gun and pulled the string…it was SO QUIET that I’ll never be concerned with it again!!!! From shooting position you get noise of air tank, hammer, spring…..out in front of gun it’s nothing!!! The “crack” sound I hear when shooting isn’t audible at all when I shoot it with the string deal….if ya try this, make SURE gun is secure, and is pointed in a safe direction…..

This is what i’ve done to mine, same power as yours so this should help a little.
1.Vented the front bushing and added scotch bright inbetween the bushing and silencer ring.
2.between the bushings i’ve also added scotch bright. on the rear bushing ive added a hard rubber ring which has a nice tight fit in the frame to stop any crap venting back through.
3. fitted my version of a hammer slap mod (no lathe so DIY job)
4. then opened up the gunpower silencer (long one) and added this set up. just a few parts from B&Q with some foam inserts to pack it out. the first part of it has a baffle and inner core/tube so i’ve left that for the time being and fitted this to the last chamber.

if i had the option i would swap the 12″ barrel to an 18″ (not going into power) so i could fit a shroud. i’ve just got a UK Neil full shroud for my ratty with 18″ barrel which is shooting the same power now (many mods) as the stealth and this extends only 100mm past the muzzel, the rest of the work is done by allowing the air to flow back and this is even quieter, cracking peice of work by him.
Yes, plastic tube is a frame extender. The gun at 18fpe is not silent but the pellet impact on a solid wood backstop is incredibly loud. The gun is not as quiet as your AA S400. But most owners begin to find tank ping and hammer slap are more annoying once the report is calmed down.
Maybe ask the manufacturer if they’ll take the tank back and tune it for noise vs power.
What pressure are you running? have you tried more/less to see if the noise vs power changes?
Keep in mind that due to the open construction of the gun and the fact that your pretty close to the breech with your ear the noise of the action is also pretty pronounced. At the target the muzzle noise could pretty well be almost none. Me and some friends did a little testing at 50 meters laying besides the target(safe location). My gun was 46ft.lbs .25 his a 30ft.lbs .22. Both silenced. Although at the gun the .25 way far louder,at 50 meters both guns are almost equally load. Furthermore the flight noise of the .22 was louder than that of the .25(also an indication of the higher BC value of the JSB king apposed to the jsb .22). All in all the more powerfull gun was more silent at 50 meters, go figure.

SSS…….i think that (to all intents and purposes) what i have just cobbled together with my plastic tube etc actually is a frame extender(yes?)……..interesting u describe your report as similar to a nail gun without the nail, if im hearing it right in my “minds ear” id say thats quite loud……you see thedifficulty for me here is my comparison (airarms s400) which is very very quiet, just a click from the action and virtually nothing from the muzzle………..

And no, i cannot adjust the power its set at the legal level.
I have a 12″ TSS in 177 firing 10.6gn pellets at 18-19fpe. I’ve put the usual 3 x fender washer + spring baffle system in the gun. No frame extender.
It does have a sound, like a air nailer but without the nail impact. I’d say it’s a touch quieter than a CO2 action pistol.
Can you adjust your power or is it fixed?
You can build a frame extender to reduce the report.
