Just ordered my first Edgun…say hi to the newb.

This is my first post, but I have been reading and enjoying your posts for the last week or so. I just ordered my first Edgun from Tony! I have a .25 R3M Long coming with the next shipment (Nov. that’s all he said). Tony is not the most talkative of fellows, is he? It took me 2 weeks to finally decide what I wanted. I have to say this site has helped me with my decision tremendously. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge with me. I haven’t seen a more loyal and proud family of members towards any other gun, as much as the Edgun….that is what swayed me over.
Well, now that the gun is ordered its time for a scope. Well here goes…. I want a scope with a 5-6 times zoom range that’s great in low light, not too heavy, not too long, parallax adjustments from 10 yards to infinity, great eye relief, great tracking, durable, good warranty, and under $1000 bucks. lol
Well…I really do…but its not gonna happen. I have however narrowed my selection down to 7. A couple are over my budget (as there always will be) and the rest are in range. Can this great forum help me in: #1 selecting the one best for me #2 Put the 7 selections in an order from best choice to worst choice (if there is a worst…they’re all quite good im sure).
Info about me: live in Houston Texas. Lots of places to go and shoot…including back yard, thick wooded areas near subdivisions, short drive to the north, south, east, and west with acres upon acres of undeveloped land. Some of it is open, some is wooded (nice to have friends with acres and acres of land). Lots of plinking, hunting birds, squirrels, rabbits, coons, bobcats, and coyotes, as well as target shooting (outdoors and not at a range). No point in shooting anything under 15 yards…very interested in acquiring the skills to shoot beyond 125 yards. Mostly 25-100 yards. Oh, and I do lots and lots of night shooting. So a good low light scope is B I G ! !

I use Hawke 4026 Sidewinder Tactical SF 6.5-20 X 42 scopes on all of my air guns. The Bushnells are supposed to be a whole lot brighter but, I can take my Matador and a scope rail mounted single 3.7 volt battery LED light and shoot 100 yard groups at 1 AM in the morning after work. The Hawke is bright enough to allow me to see each shot on the 100 yard target.
I have been out hunting at dusk and, if I can see my quarry with my eyes, I can pick it up with the Hawke. I wouldn’t mind paying $1200-$1500 for a better scope but, the Hawke ½ 20 mil dot reticle, combined with Chairgun generated range cards, makes it so damn easy to make 125+ hits on dove and ground squirrels heads that I am reluctant to try something else. I also really like the 8 mil dot bars that the Hawke has.
I bought a Bushnell 6-24 ERS Tactical scope for $900 and was happy to sell it for $550. The Bushnell only had 4 mil dots and they were HUGE! With a 50 yard zero, the mil dot would cover a shot and I would have to move the scope to see where the shot landed at 100 yards. I see that Bushnell now offers a BTR MIL reticle for the 6-24 ERS and if it was offered last year, I would have bought one instead. The BTR MIL has 6 mil dot bars, not as many as the Hawke but, better than 4 huge mil dots.
I have seen some posts here that showed reticules from high dollar scopes that looked promising, I just hate to spend $1200-$2000 on one and find that it won’t work with Chairgun.
I also have Chairgun on my Iphone and I use it a lot when out hunting for really long range shots that I don’t have a range card printed out for.

Thanks old goat for the reply. I have never used chairgun. I’m not really sure what its all about. I know it trajectory info for air guns…..but I’m sure it’s some type of trial and error time saver app of sorts.
I have read on many sites about the dislike of mil-dot reticles….due to big dots. I was considering the Hawke as well, as so many edgun owners use it, but ruled it out because I wanted a bit more magnification. 24x-30x sure would be useful over 100 yards. What is your opinion of Vortex?
