Q:

Mach 1+ f.p.s. Condor Groups, I won’t be called a liar :)

quote pablouk:

You are getting Kodiaks to shoot well at 1200 fps? πŸ˜• 😯 πŸ˜• 😯

Well, see for yourself. 😎

Now, these aren’t the Kodiak’s, these are the JSB 18.1 Exacts. I shot the rest of my kodiaks at a tree to get rid of them, These Exacts have replaced the Kodes For Ever. Cleaned the barrel, oiled the pellets and sighted in (almost dead on) by shooting off hand at two birds. First bird, head shot but was aiming at center body mass. Second Bird, hit barely to the right, adjusted for this, and the gun was for the most part sighted in. Kodes have NEVER shot that nice out of my gun.

I received a nasty email, I guess from a member here, no name, openly stating that what I had previously said I was capable of is a lie. Well, here are my First Groups Ever with the JSB’s, I love my Condor πŸ˜€

BTW, all of these groups are shot at 1,215 f.p.s. average. (Chrony’ed it)

Yes, this is an Offhand group. As I said in a previous thread, I have been sharpshooting for years, and for an airgun shooting pell’s over Mach 1, I’d like to think this is a damn good group. (looks Like I shot Washington’s head, then neck off 😈 )

This isn’t my best, but this is in a 23 MPH crosswind, after dark with the target paper lit by a flashlight on a stand, and yes, at 40 yards 😎

Id say especially in OHIO,ask me how id know well I live here!

None taken roach.

I know how good the ar can be. I had a friend with a rock river competition/varmint that was guaranteed to shoot .25moa. Great trigger and very accurate. My thoughts on keeping the gun to 4-5″ at that range were for a plain off the shelf ar-15, nothing special about it. So yeah, I understand what you were saying, they can be great. But I assumed the one he had wasn’t, and at best was probably a MOA rifle. Had he said he was doing it with a custom ar-15 and a scope, I probably wouldn’t have doubted him.

And I know the .223 is very accurate. Heck, I have a group with one in my sig. However, I also know what wind will do to it, especially those 50-55g bullets. That is their real shortcoming. Well, that and lack of power at longer ranges. But accuracy is on their side.

And I still don’t like the ar-15. I cringe every time I hear that twang. πŸ˜†

Jerry,

You did not hurt my feelings, just informing the crowd about the guns potential. I was reponding more to Lama’s post than yours. no offence Lama.

Noob is a bullshit artist, to do what he says he did with that particular gun would be difficult if not impossible with iron sights, but we both know with globes on a built rifle using a round bulleye it could in fact be done with irons. Not shooting daddy’s gun at pop bottles.

But usually when folks come on like Noob did, you get bells going off, and those alarms are not always true, bells went off when RJ came on, but RJ Porter is fact the real deal, or more to the point for those old enough to remember Walter Brennen, the real McCoy as hillbillies go. πŸ˜†

OH i’m sure you could hit the 24 oz. can at 300 yards but it’s pretty obvious that the story is pumped up when a guy says 9 times in a row.

It is amazing what some people will say when they think no one knows any better. πŸ™‚

In case I wounded any AR-15 owner’s sensibilities… The AR is a great rifle and purpose built versions even dominate significant portions of mid range competition. BUT, there is nothing in the post that would lead anyone to believe that the AR referenced was anything other than a run of the mill, over the counter version shooting ball ammo with standard military style iron sights. You can buy a 4 MOA AR-15 or you can buy/build a sub 1/2 MOA AR-15… And then you can change your sight picture 9 times to different targets you can barely see using iron sights and shoot the equivelent of a sub MOA group… routinely.

Bull shit.

Yes an unmodified AR at that range at that target would be very difficult.

And you certainly are not alone in your dislikes of the AR Lama.

My son had watched me build so many of those guns that for his senior project in hi school, he built a Ar from a Bushmaster parts kit.

He was not allowed to take it or any of the parts to school, or to the Project fair afterwards. He worked for two years getting the local police to testify before the school board on that project.

The local Burns Oregon paper did an article on the project, and put it on the internet, David at the time had enlisted in the Marine Corp and they were going to put him in the Presidential protection detail, but his would be commander read the article in Washington DC and had it removed from the internet. The recruiting officerrs made a big stink of it all and and said he would not be in the detail because of tha article, the community was outraged because they all knew David from his community service, our local representative offered to go to bat about it, but David drove 150 miles to talk to them and sort it out on his own.

He ended up guarding nukes for the first 2 years of his enlistment, then to Iraq and then to the Philippines.

He used the M16 in anger, came home and traded one of his 3 personal AR’s for a 12 guage Mossberg, which he also carried in the sandbox, he never told my why, and I never asked.

I would prefer the slower twist my self , i like the 50 to 55 grain bullets.

All of mine are i in 9 for 223, but they do fine. The DPMS rifles are very accurate. I have not put allot of rounds thru them yet, just barrly have them broke in, but its seems the my 16” AP4 Pantherβ„’ Carbine 16″
will shoot right with my 24” Pantherβ„’ Bull Twenty-Four.

All have JP Enterprises Competition 1 1/2 # Trigger s , except my LR 308 Classic, i did this stock trigger my self, spent all day on it and could only get down to 2 1/2# reliably. had to add hammer spring pressure at the 1st range session for reliably ignition which made it a hair under 3#’s

I will probably get a JP for it too eventually.

Like I said roachcreek, groups like that are possible. But actually shooting a beer can on a dirt mound would be extremely hard. You just can’t see it.

I personally hate the ar-15. I have shot with it, and I did pretty well. I have also seen them heavily modified to shoot extremely well. But I still don’t like them.

The fast twist barrels for AR’s are really a comprimise that does work acrossed the releam of 22 caliber bullet weights, but it is still a compromise.

Today there are so many after market parts for the AR, in my day I would have given my left nut for the aftermarket triggers of today. The only recourse we had was to polish them, which often took out the tempering, and made them unserviceable quickly.

As a result we learned to use our second finger joint and try to reach the frame on the other side of the trigger and manipulate the 8 pound triggers that way. It worked for me and a few others, but took so much practice and concentration.

Today you folks have so many options with these guns.

Powderburner

They were the stock SP-1, 1 in 12 twist.

Lightweight and wippy, but with a tube handguard you got around that, powderburner.

The one in 12 was what most folks used at that time on varmit rifles. I even went to a 1in 14 on a Remington 700 once to shoot only flat based 52 grain bullets, but it did not work out.

A friend of mine who worked for the powers to be that developed the rifle told me that some barrels were actually Douglas on early rifles, but I have never documented that claim.

I always thought the AR platform lost a lost of ground when it went to the 1-7 thru1-9 twists and the pushpin for commercial use. But of course for the military or for HI poser shooters using the 69’s it is a must.

It is really difficult to find those early barrels that are still new in the wrap.

Roachcreek

With what barrel
?

Noob, was a kid and a bullshit artist tempered by his immaturity.

Don’t base it on the AR15 exploits, it shows your inexperience with this platform.

I won the 1981 Oregon Practical Rifle Championship with a AR15, I hunted commercially with one and carried one on my shoulder for 20 years.

Yes the stock gun with iron sights would have been difficult or impossible to do the feat he described, but almost any SP-1 with a tube handguard, frame tightening and either trigger work or someone who knew how to manipulate the stock trigger will hold minute of angle to 400 yards under ideal conditions.

For the competition year 1981, I cut off the carring handle and mounted a low scope mount, like the flat tops of today, I was not the first to do this, but I do believe I was the 2nd one to do this. I made bullets from empty 22 lr hulls with a Corbin press and got 1/2 inch groups quite often.

I have always felt the 1/12 ich twist barrels of the sp-1 series shot so much better than the newer fast twist barrels, but of course only with 50-55 grain bullets.

The SP-1 had another advantage over current push pin models, it had a frame tighting feature that could be employed. You cut the front female screw on the hinge pin assembly a few thousands so that when tightened it pulled the ears of the lower reciever together on the hingepin assembly and made it very tight.

To say that the AR15, which is more accurate than most out of the box unmodded bolt guns, will not hold miute of angle out to 400 yards is absurd. The 223 with propper barrels and bullets and mods has proven this time and again in competition and on the battle field.

Yes it is a mouse gun, it twangs in your ear, it is lastic an aluminum, but it has more potential than almost any rifle out there IMO. There is a reason it is the post popular rifle of today.

Folks I did this AR shit for longer than most of you folks have been alive and killed just about every species of game on the lower 48 with one , I know of what I speak.

What mods have you done to shoot them at these speeds? Or is it just the stock gun..?

Ok, I can’t.

Probably
