Q:

Mutant Shorty Need Any Extra Sound Supression…

:hoot:

Is the moderator end cap on the Mutant held on with a grub screw, or threaded?

If set at max fps, does it need additional sound suppression to be “Neighborhood Unnoticeable??

Kind regards Fellow Mutants….

That’s the table from which we know the 60 shots @ 28 fpe thing, but the air tube volumes are not specified :sadn:…or we should assume they have not changed.

As you said, the shorty first version came with a 300 mm barrel, shooting around 48 shots @ 25 fpe out of the box. Then the second version, with a 350 mm barrel, came shooting around 60 shots @ 26 fpe. And now, the third version, will be shooting 60 shots @ 28 fpe. So, it is about an increase of 10% in performance on every step, right? I think it is difficult to establish a limit to what it is reasonable maximum performance. Soon we will see if the creative experts around here will come with new mods that will help in the development of version 4th. In theory that version should be shooting 60 shots @ 30 fpe… :suprisedn: All that while keeping the AOL around 23 inches. That would probably be against the laws of physics? In the meantime :fishinghole: .

I would think he would need to change to a larger diameter air tube to keep the OAL (AOL is something else entirely :biggrinn: ) at 23in and provide your 60 @ 30fpe. Or allow a max pressure of 5000 PSI – but not many people can fill to that.

Thanks for the correction kidcurry. Except America On Line, I don’t know any other meaning … my English is far from competent. I have to admit I have some difficulty understanding the humor, buried messages and high level writing of some members here 😐 But it is fun reading some post several times trying to.

Talking about air tube volume, does anyone know the shorty Veteran air tube capacity?

Just rambling….

The last version of the Shorty came with a 13.74″ barrel, vs. the first version with a bit over 11″. That few inches makes a lot of difference.

I agree with the big “D”…the Shorty pretty much came as a gun tuned to it’s reasonable maximum performance…and still expecting accuracy and decent shot count. It was very well designed, and that trigger is to die for!

I am certain that Dimetry is a man who pays attention to little details, and if he comes up with a .25 Shorty, it will equipped with some heavy duty regulators and valves. He already mentioned he has strengthened some parts for the Veteran, so the Shorty should be a solid buy!

Waiting is a miserable experience!

Stay away from Dr. Frankinstein Ernest he has tinkered with every last Mutant he has owned changing calibers shrouds and barrels and custom making other internals outta dead PCP parts. Sick puppet soon he will be making zip guns out of

Certainly we are lucky to have these talented gents thinking how to improve our guns. I think you could add Motorhead to your list. I think he has brought the Mutant standard to its next level of performance.

Dman, thanks for your clarification.

…You are saying you get 36 shots at 29-30 FPE with your out of the box shorty? No mods? If so, the variation in power/shot count capabilities of the shorties out there is huge. What am I missing?

:hoot:

I wouldn’t suggest any major invasive “mods” to the Mutant. Any gains to be had are not all that significant. The gun simply needs to have the HST (Hammer Spring Tension) properly tuned to the regular’s usual 130 BAR pressure setting. Then you will get maximum accuracy and shot count.

That being said…if you fill the gun to it’s absolute maximum psi air capacity, you will get a slight increase in shot count, but at a tremendous expense of air usage. Most forum members indicate that filling the gun to it’s maximum pressure wastes a lot of air per shot, until the pressure gets down to around 200 BAR.

If you want more shot count, get a Standard/Veteran. The Shorty does an excellent job as it stands. Trying to squeeze more out of it isn’t worth the expense, time, and effort, given the minimal gains to be achieved. Why risk breaking a valve stem by over-stressing the components?

Hoot:

Silami…..

The reason why you see a variation is because the early ones had a 300mm barrel vs the existing shorty come with 350 mm long barrel… that brings the power up about 20 fps…

All the shorty come from the factory…… settings at 145 bar on the regulator.

There is a few things that can be done to the shorty but in all actually they not needed

Hoot:

I’m curious as to why that is. Isn’t the regulated side at the same pressure no matter whether the main side is at 200 BAR or max? Or does the regulator get “overloaded” at max pressure with higher pressure on the regulated side and therefore waste air?

Hoot, I have to agree with you. The best solution to my dilemma is to save for a .25 shorty, hoping they become available in a few months.

Foxback, Not bad. Even thirty shots at that power is more than 30% of what I am getting with my current maxed tune. I hope your shorty’s inactivity is only due to inclement weather :winkn:.

No it’s been months, since I’ve shot my shorty.
I was thinking that the mag, held 10 shots,
I get 30 shots on a fill.

Then my fps drops off with the shots. :biggrinn:
