Is the moderator end cap on the Mutant held on with a grub screw, or threaded?
If set at max fps, does it need additional sound suppression to be “Neighborhood Unnoticeable??

Like probably most, if not all, owners, I like my shorty a lot. Its 23″ is the reason why I opted for it and not the standard. I am short, plus quite frequently I need to walk 1 to 3 miles to get to a good site. And some areas have many bushes and vines so small size is very convenient.
That is a nice video. I knew it, but thanks anyway. Very much like a typical hunting trip of mine, but at my regular hunting sites, close to my home, you can see no more than 20-30 in an afternoon (maybe because my success… 🙄 ). I recently ordered a Discovery Optics Rifle Scope Phone Camera Adapter, so I’ll post something in a near future.
Well, now you confused me. You are saying you get 36 shots at 29-30 FPE with your out of the box shorty? No mods? If so, the variation in power/shot count capabilities of the shorties out there is huge. What am I missing?
I get three mags worth of shots, for my shorty.

Well I have never done any thing to my shorty, but adjust the trigger.
When the shorty’s first came out we all got, new barrels.
I did change out mine. But that’s it really. I did get a custom stock for it.
You can P.M. D-man for a spacer, not sure if he is still selling them or not.
Not sure if the shorty is maxed out, at this point of what Jaime has said & found on the shorty’s.
I still have not used the reg spacer in mine yet.
I still don’t want too mess to much with the gun.
If I need to change o-rings, and get in side the gun, I’ll get the new valve stem from Jaime
& swap out the reg spacer.
But 850- 860 is 29-30 fpe at this point, thats really good for this little gun. 
Hello all! New to this forum. My only gun right now is a Mutant shorty, so I think this is the Place :wink:. My stock shorty is shooting JSB’s 18.1 @859 fps now, with a shot count of 21 from 250 to about 135 bar. That done by only adjusting the HST to its max.
Foxback, I would like to know if you ever installed the reg spacer, or any other mod, in your shorty. If so, which results did you get? If I can increase my shot count I would consider the installation of Dman’s mods (Swiss cheese plenum, modified valve stem, what else is available?).
Anyones’s input will be really appreciated.

Kabuki, it’s an Athlon Talos BTR 4-14 FFP. Yeah, it’s quiet enough without the LDC… but a little overkill is always fun :biggrinn: I live in suburbia with neighbors very close on one side. The quieter the better.

Shooting JSB 16g @ 830 fps w/o the ldc isn’t quiet enough for ya?…
830 with 16 gr JSB’s.
After Mutant, my guns from most to least quiet: .22 Prod w/TKO LDC (12 FPE), .22 Cricket carbine (32 FPE), .177 Mrod (18 FPE), .25 R3M w/Donny LDC (45 FPE). Of course that is by ear and completely unscientific. The shot sound of the Mutant with the extra LDC on the end is just the crisp CLICK from the action. Prod and Mrod that loose BLATTT sound.
What FPS is your shorty set at? What other guns are you comparing it to?
Using the 6″ Donny LDC from my .25 R3M on the shorty. Quietest gun I own now!

I wouldn’t suggest any major invasive “mods” to the Mutant. Any gains to be had are not all that significant. The gun simply needs to have the HST (Hammer Spring Tension) properly tuned to the regular’s usual 130 BAR pressure setting. Then you will get maximum accuracy and shot count.
That being said…if you fill the gun to it’s absolute maximum psi air capacity, you will get a slight increase in shot count, but at a tremendous expense of air usage. Most forum members indicate that filling the gun to it’s maximum pressure wastes a lot of air per shot, until the pressure gets down to around 200 BAR.
If you want more shot count, get a Standard/Veteran. The Shorty does an excellent job as it stands. Trying to squeeze more out of it isn’t worth the expense, time, and effort, given the minimal gains to be achieved. Why risk breaking a valve stem by over-stressing the components?
