My .25 Vulcan
Well it is officially 7:30 am here in West Central Wisconsin. My Vulcan is being pulled off the Postal truck now and will be available for pick up at the post office when they open. Plan is to head out to my buddy’s place and strap the MTC Viper Connect on top, get her dialed in and hit the woods for a squirrel hunt. Saturday was opener here and he and I bagged 9 Greys and a fat hopper with the Disco and my .25 Prod. (Pics to come)I figure I’ll deal with all the crony stuff a bit later today and get to drawing some blood first. Probably just dial in with light Kings firs as the seem to be a good pellet in the Vulcan from what I have read…too ready been too long…can’t wait I’m like a kid on Christmas! :7: :8:

Uncle Hoot I am so thankful for your fabulous ability to communicate to the forum members who need to have it spelled out in the manner that only you uncle Hoot can do. I will say am the worst person to put something in writing but can achieve other things that great writers can’t. So that’s why we this forum so we can collaborate. I’m so glad you are cleaning things up for me.
Please do not interpret my question as anything other than trying to learn from others with more experience than me and Hoot certainly fulfills this role. Case and point…the shrink tubing is a bad idea as I went ahead and tried it and low and behold, it restricted the spring compression to the point that it was difficult to cock.
Just too lazy to drive to Lowes for the grommet. Thanks Hoot for sharing your successes with the Vulcan so we all can improve.

What do you think about installing a short piece of heat shrink tubing to the spring? I am thinking about trying a 1/2″ long piece and shrinking it to the spring to dampen the vibration unless the consensus is that this would be useless.
I installed the Ernest guide and initially it sounded like it completely eliminated the twang…this was with the spring/ hammer cover removed. After I installed the cover and closed everything back up, I could hear a bit of the dreaded twang.

AJ…please don’t think of me as knowing everything that I write about. Other keener minds have come up with innovative solutions, are much more mechanically gifted than I, and are intelligent individuals who create solutions to pcp problems. Sadly, these individuals are simply too damn stupid to express themselves in a manner that people, like yourself, can understand. Like a pair of crutches, I am only allowed on this forum to help the mentally crippled to communicate with normal Humans. I am not proud of what I must do…I merely do it because it pisses people off, and no one seems to be able to stop me.
Now…back to your suggestion, If we put shrink wrap around the spring, we may prevent the spring from compressing properly, or releasing properly, and thus lose it’s ability to push the hammer against the valve with sufficient impact.
I’d suggest sticking with the grommet…it only affects the spring AFTER the spring has done it’s job…and does it quite nicely I might add.
Kudos to those individuals who located the source of the ping, and effectively reasoned out a way to stop it from happening. Poor ignorant, dumb, sum’ bitches…couldn’t wipe their own asses without instructions from the people who care for them! Still, likes ticks, chiggers, and a bad case of the crabs, they have their place in nature and it’s up to the rest of us to see that they get fed, and their zippers kept in the full upright position when in public.
With all humility, grace, poise, and dignity…I remain as a service to all Humanity, and to our forum members in particular…

AJ get going and fix it with a grommet. Takes a few minutes if you can get the bolts out of side cover. Uncle did a nice write up and provided the pictures too. What more could you ask for. Make sure you thank the uncle when your all done

Did all ya-all see the factory fix that Tony posted a picture of ❓
It appears to be an update from the little piece of tubing my .22 had glued to one coil of the HS. This clear plastic looks to be loose on the HS and holding the HS and COCKING LEVER SPRING apart. The glued in OEM little tubing on mine went out of place when the HST was turned. Thus the new part is probably an improvement.
I think eelect”s forward positioning of the Grommet plus his small o-ring squeezed inside the Cocking Lever Spring to maybe be a better solution as it does not push the HS to the side to dampen the vibration. My cut down grommet apprears to decrease HS force when I put it to the rear. So now I’m looking for Hoot’s suggested 3/8 ID X 5/8 OD grommet to see if I get as good of results plus prettier than my cut down grommet.

When you install it, you might try using two of them, and see how that works for you. It may be a better “fix” than using just one, and might prevent movement of the grommets as well. I didn’t do it because I ran out of time, patience, and eyesight all at once. You…being a younger man, might lend us a hand in this effort.

Ben…Here’s a picture of the delrin on the hammer spring guide, as it is seen facing the proper direction. This picture also shows where he removed the spring tension adjustment screw at the back of the gun, and what the spring guide looks like without the spring installed.
Just put the delrin in place, replace the spring/spring-guide and you should be good to go. eerection-disorder sent me this picture and it helped me a lot. He’s way more knowledgeable about this than me. As he said, it’s not rocket science…although I had a bit of trouble getting that guide and spring back in the gun, but it will go. You just have to work on it a bit. Seems I had to put the spring guide in place, then the spring, to get it to work for me.

Benjamin. Ernest guide has nothing to do with grommet placement. Mount it as shown in previous pictures. There have been some posted in my original post about it. Remember no rocket science here
