My Matador R5 just landed…
Yes. Title says it all. My R5 in .30 cal just landed safely in my hands. I always wanted to go high-power but so far the choice was pretty limited here in EU. Please don’t tell me one brand or another… after owning several PCPs from several manufacturers I simply wanted an EdGun, period! And short R5 (officially named as Standard) seems to be my ‚dream come true’ .30 high power airgun. Well… so far I’m delighted. I’ll play with her a bit in coming days, try couple of pellets, try another 1 or 2 scopes, and (of course) you can expect some photos in this thread soon. And after some time maybe also a review? Who knows… but for now quick and dirty ‚unboxing’ kind of picture of my R5 on my desk. Yeah!
My first scope of choice is Vortex Diamondback Tactical 3-9×40, which is lightweight, compact, good glass, good reticle and very good target turrets. So it fits my small R5 perfectly. Parallax is set at 100m… and well, that’s exactly what I need. It’s not a backyard gun after all! 100m seems to be just right for that sniping machine. Can’t wait to try her out…
It’s a beast! The most beautiful beast I’ve ever handled! And it handles amazingly well!

EDIT: of course I use Adobe software… anyone seriously involved in photography does. But it’s used to enhance photos, not fake grain lines. I’d have to be photoshop wizard to fake same lines in the same way in so many different pictures, angles, etc. Lol!
With your skills even an old HW30 looks stunning and desirable LOL

Piter, I’m using old Adobe software on old Macs, to avoid the high cost of monthly subscriptions. However, I’ve heard very good reports about Affinity, both for Vector and Raster imaging.

The cost is great, a one-time fee. I’ll be checking it out to see how it compares.

I see you! I was browsing Eberlestocks website and looking at their Big Trick pack and when I looked at one of the photos I knew I had seen it somewhere lol. Too bad the R5 didn’t make it on there…
That is obvious. Certain materials consume certain light spectrum and deflect other.
Morning light, afternoon light, golden hour, white reflector, gold reflector, on the yellow weeds, on green grass, in full sun, overcast, open field, deep forest… that is called ambient light and reflected light temperature and colour cast in photography. But you can call it chameleon effect, I even kind of like it.
EDIT: to be even more precize… what you see is not wood as such. It’s ambient light reflected by a surface of that wood. It’s light, that determines color, which we can see in the end…
The stock is sometimes reddish and sometimes brownish. Chameleon, most likely.

If you shoot like you shot your camera then you will have moa groups at 100 meters.
When I wanted to impress my friends and have some fun, instead of bringing home the whole target I was just cutting out the inner circle of the target, the bullseye, this way I had only moa groups. :rofl:

After couple of years all the people here and there know I love photography. And all dealers are welcome to use my photos on the web etc. (except selling actual photos of course). So it’d be surprising if they wouldn’t at least check if the stock is nice and contrasty. But it’s just my ‚late night speculation’ when working on some photos…

Actually… I can say I’m quite lucky with gun stocks. Even my Weihrauch HW30 appeared to have a stock with THIS grain lines in the wood. Simple beech stock for HW30, which I purchased for my daughter. Honestly, I’ve seen worse wood on airguns costing 5x that price.
