Q:

My Matador R5 just landed…

Yes. Title says it all. My R5 in .30 cal just landed safely in my hands. I always wanted to go high-power but so far the choice was pretty limited here in EU. Please don’t tell me one brand or another… after owning several PCPs from several manufacturers I simply wanted an EdGun, period! And short R5 (officially named as Standard) seems to be my ‚dream come true’ .30 high power airgun. Well… so far I’m delighted. I’ll play with her a bit in coming days, try couple of pellets, try another 1 or 2 scopes, and (of course) you can expect some photos in this thread soon. And after some time maybe also a review? Who knows… but for now quick and dirty ‚unboxing’ kind of picture of my R5 on my desk. Yeah!

My first scope of choice is Vortex Diamondback Tactical 3-9×40, which is lightweight, compact, good glass, good reticle and very good target turrets. So it fits my small R5 perfectly. Parallax is set at 100m… and well, that’s exactly what I need. It’s not a backyard gun after all! 100m seems to be just right for that sniping machine. Can’t wait to try her out…

It’s a beast! The most beautiful beast I’ve ever handled! And it handles amazingly well!

Each barrel is unique!

Piotr’s R5 shots one single hole groups at 50 meters and another R5 owner shots 2 inches groups at 50 meters.

Also stocks are unique.

Piotr’s stock is gorgeous and the others don’t even look like walnut.

Piotr has been very lucky or maybe he is simply very good with photoshop 😀

Al buen entendedor, pocas palabras bastan.

I think you should replace a barrel if you want to touch some real accuracy.

Shooter,

Do you have experience with the .30 Cal barrel of the R5?

Regards, Robert.

Oh, btw, I’ve got a pellet scale on the way to me too. It’s crazy. And it’s just because of this place. Well, mostly 😉

The scope can help but I think you should replace a barrel if you want to touch some real accuracy.

Well, yeah… Victorinox ALOX is cool indeed.

BTW, in my excitement I didn’t realized they shipped too low rings with the scope… till I started mounting. Ouch! So I have to wait for a replacement. But my local dealer has a correct mount in stock so it’ll be shipped to me still today -> mounting tomorrow, so before my planned shooting session 🙂

Lol, love the sneaky knife in the background 😉 Can’t wait to see some more 100 accuracy. It’s a lot harder than some think.

It’s a NEW YEAR… and something NEW just arrived. It’s still in a box. Shooting range already booked for end of the week.

I believe that this can be another factor, which could tighten my 100 groups even more. Actually I had no problem to use my Vortex Diamondback Tactical on contrasting target and at 100m the parallax was fully compensated BUT this scope should take me to another level up in accuracy…

Well done!

Thanks a lot! OK, what about another pic, which I know it’s a bit different… but still a bit on topic since I’ve got R5 in my hand. I really like that kind of photography, keeps me relaxed when I work on it in the end of the day like now. Just for pure fun.

Actually… for me the fact that you Ed make your guns just so easy to work with is genius! It’s not easy. Tuning is part of the game. Airguns like this, or Leshiy, just begg to work on them. Some people will. Some not. I will. Otherwise I’d not get any EdGun. And that’s also why I don’t even consider some brands… I want to be able to do everything and anything on my airguns.

(and yeah, I really like working with tools… it’s so relaxing)

That is a heritage of living in USSR, we had no service, not goods in the shops so had to either make everything ouselves or repair what we have brobcken ourselves. That is why I try to make the guns as simple as possible 🙂

Wow, wow and wow again. Your photography skills are insane Piotr. What a beautiful gun with gorgeous wood and excellent pics. Well done!

No Ed, you did most of the work, this is just how Piotr said fine tuning.

I am kidding 🙂
