My Matador R5 just landed…
Yes. Title says it all. My R5 in .30 cal just landed safely in my hands. I always wanted to go high-power but so far the choice was pretty limited here in EU. Please don’t tell me one brand or another… after owning several PCPs from several manufacturers I simply wanted an EdGun, period! And short R5 (officially named as Standard) seems to be my ‚dream come true’ .30 high power airgun. Well… so far I’m delighted. I’ll play with her a bit in coming days, try couple of pellets, try another 1 or 2 scopes, and (of course) you can expect some photos in this thread soon. And after some time maybe also a review? Who knows… but for now quick and dirty ‚unboxing’ kind of picture of my R5 on my desk. Yeah!
My first scope of choice is Vortex Diamondback Tactical 3-9×40, which is lightweight, compact, good glass, good reticle and very good target turrets. So it fits my small R5 perfectly. Parallax is set at 100m… and well, that’s exactly what I need. It’s not a backyard gun after all! 100m seems to be just right for that sniping machine. Can’t wait to try her out…

It’s Eberlestock Big Trick and it fits just fine. Secret Weapon was a tighter pack but I sold it with my R3M so can’t take a picture for you. Otherwise I gladly would.
What kind of a backpack is that? Will Eberlestock Secret Weapon fit the gun?
BTW, it has nothing to do (directly) with R5 but I also took one more pic in the forest last Sunday. Actually I like it the most (and it’s also fully legal):

You’re absolutely correct! Shooting airgun above 17J on public land and airgun hunting is prohibited in Poland. Thanks Lord photography is fully legal, that also includes photography on public land.
Piter i thought you cant hunt with airgun in Poland, are you not risking prosecution?

Yeah… remote release via wifi connection is a wonderful tool (but requires some extra work unfortunately).

OK, not really shooting update (that will come next week) but as a photographer I was not able to resist that nice Sunday and went to the forest for a quick photo shoot… caliber Fuji 56mm f/1.2 :rofl:
Does the R5 in .25 come with the same type magazine holder as R3M? How is your shot count @ your current setting? Thanks in advance.
Going above 265m/s requires a lot of turns on HST. I think that without touching regulator you can’t get more than 110 Joule, maybe couple more if you use heavy 3.25g ammo. For more power I’d certainly consider Long or just Extra Long version. For more power you just need either more air (more bars or bigger plenum) or longer barrel. The latter is better idea imho.
Actually I think (after some more experimenting) that 260-265 m/s with 2.9g ammo is really optimum power. That is very healthy 102 Joule of energy AND you should get 30 good shots. That sounds like a good compromise.
I am interested in what maximum energy can be obtained from this construction. can you test and give data?

It is one of the reasons I really looking forward of having my own R5.
The gun is simple, solid and accurate.
Again, Ed did some revolutionairy work in the bullpub scene!

I had a tuned trigger on my R3M so it can’t be directly compared. It’s 2-stage, smooth (but not very light) and predictable, no creep. I didn’t adjust it yet, it’s quite good as it is now. Heavier than my setting on customized R3M trigger but it’s absolutely good one. Could be a tad lighter second stage? Could be, yes. It’s probably well within adjustment anyway. But also I don’t like too delicate trigger, especially on such a powerful gun. I’ll surely play with the settings in the future but first I’d like to feel the gun a bit more. It’d be best to measure the first and second stage but I don’t have rigger pull measurement devise, sorry. For shooting off the sand bags it surely doesn’t disturb me releasing good shots.
