My Matador R5 just landed…
Yes. Title says it all. My R5 in .30 cal just landed safely in my hands. I always wanted to go high-power but so far the choice was pretty limited here in EU. Please don’t tell me one brand or another… after owning several PCPs from several manufacturers I simply wanted an EdGun, period! And short R5 (officially named as Standard) seems to be my ‚dream come true’ .30 high power airgun. Well… so far I’m delighted. I’ll play with her a bit in coming days, try couple of pellets, try another 1 or 2 scopes, and (of course) you can expect some photos in this thread soon. And after some time maybe also a review? Who knows… but for now quick and dirty ‚unboxing’ kind of picture of my R5 on my desk. Yeah!
My first scope of choice is Vortex Diamondback Tactical 3-9×40, which is lightweight, compact, good glass, good reticle and very good target turrets. So it fits my small R5 perfectly. Parallax is set at 100m… and well, that’s exactly what I need. It’s not a backyard gun after all! 100m seems to be just right for that sniping machine. Can’t wait to try her out…
It’s a beast! The most beautiful beast I’ve ever handled! And it handles amazingly well!

Yeah… that’s why groups were considerably bigger on Monday. And btw, I’ve used my Leshiy in worse conditions… no problem for the gun, Edguns are pretty weatherproof.
Regarding noise -> yes Ed, valid remark. I’ll check at the range also from a distance. Will let you know guys!
To check out the noisly one needs to step out few Meter out of the gun, to exclude the metal sound of hitting hammer under earlier, in this case it is possible to value the sound.

The Standard size you’ve got there is quite exquisite and in my opinion the best looking of the bunch, but I can only imagine how nicely that Super-Long will tame the bark whilst gaining fps and accordingly fpe. The Long will be the sweet spot of compromise.
Shooting in a light drizzle. Shit, you hit one speck of water in mid travel and that shot will be deflected for sure. I’m sure your groups will tighten when you get more trigger time, better weather and a seasoned barrel. :8:

Can you describe the new trigger …… compared to the old.
Is the trigger assembly different, any change in the trigger group geometry ?
More adjustment points or screws ?

Poland. Actually quite airgun friendly country… any caliber is legal, silencers and autoloaders are legal, any power is legal just needs registration and shooting at the range if it’s above 17J. Below 17J… it is treated just as NERF 😉
Can’t compare to other .30 cal airguns as I don’t have any other. But it’s not bad, however still not whisper quiet at that power level. It is really quiet at 240-250 m/s. But requires considerably harder HST to get the speed up to 265+ m/s and at that level report is noticeably louder despite just 20 m/s increase in speed. But honestly, I expected MUCH louder muzzle report from compact 100+ Joule airgun. If you ask if it’s backyard friendly… well, if you have a backyard suitable for .30 cal than it surely is backyard friendly enough.

PiterM, this is why CTC measuring was introduced. Just subtract 7.62mm from your results and you are there.
What about the noise. How wel is the moderator doing his job on this .30 cal? More quiet than a FX Boss .30?

Actually consider this: two shots separated by 3mm make almost 20mm group in .30 cal! Compare two shots in .177 separated by 3mm… that is clearly under half inch. At 50m there is a clear advantage to go with fast 177. Except energy delivered to the target :rofl:
shooting off the sandbags at 50m is “waste of time” – one hole, bigger than one pellet of course, but still one hole. Also it’s not easy to judge as two pellets touching each other make slightly bigger hole than 15mm, so ‘half inch’ means less distance ctc than one caliber. So at 50m it’s actually easier to get spectacular result with 22 or even “hot” 177.
Anyway, another point is: shooting off the sandbags is just so much easier than with a bipod. The difference is very clear. Also 3x mm in my case means not 31 but closer to 40, but still I like the results. It shoots well. Also it’d be boring not to have any room for improvement, LOL! It’s also shooter, not just gun. Anyway, so far I’m having a lot of fun!
It seems to me I am out of the real life in which the group (on the edges of the bullet wholes) less then 40 mm at 100 meter, shot outdor from the new gun, with unselected pellets is considered as… so, so… Well, need to do something to go back to the real life…
What is your grouping at 50 meters? 3x mm at 100 meters is quite nice, honestly.
