My new R3 is discharging air
Around the breech area seam. It is NOT the little breech O-rings. I checked, double checked and even changed them out. This is my new 25cal R3 that we’re talking about. so I did not get much shootin in before I had to stop. It is loud in that area and discharges air upon triggering. Does not leak continuiously, so it’s not the valve. Look at my picture, you will see my delima. I am thinking two things based on the Ed video of the Matador assembly, little o-ring/gasket between the valve and barrel mount, or the o-ring on the barrel itself.

Looks like I need the copper ring too maybe.
As Oldgoat said, Check your R3s and let us know what you have in there.

It would be Great if Ed could EMS us some Copper rings and some of those moderator O-rings.
I buy automotive LED bulbs in bulk from supplier in China and EMS takes 2-3 days max to get here from China. Should be about the same amount of time to get here from Russia.
I have PMed him my address. So far no response.
I agree….

Well now….it’s a copper ring. I was told rubber O-ring, same size that went on the probe. Right now the Lowes O-ring is working fine. I’ve sent 40 shots thru it with one refill to top it off.

F and D, words can’t convey how happy I am that you had your O ring problem! 😆
It was a beautiful fall day here and I went to the range to put my gun on the chrony and shoot some groups. 5-7 mph swirling winds. I had turned my reg in ½ turn from stock and it still needs a little more. I was just having fun shooting when I started to get a slight air leak from the pellet loading area. The leak kept getting worse and then BLAM, a burst of air to the face!
OK, I blew a probe O ring, not a big deal, I have more with me. Changed them out, no difference. Put another set in just in case I nicked the last set while putting them on. Still the BLAM! I laid some cleaning patches over the breech area and the air was leaking out of the rear of the probe.
I still shot some nice groups by rolling up a shirt sleeve and putting it over the pellet port. My speed dropped 50 fps when the O ring blew out.
I couldn’t see anything wrong with the rear breech assembly, I made plans to take the rear breech off of my R2.5 and put it on my R3 and see if I still had the major leak. Time to go to work.
It REALLY bothered me all night at work till I saw your post. I started wondering if I had blown my O ring out also. I found some Teflon O rings that are almost the same size as the O ring that came with my gun. The Teflon O ring has a 0.020” smaller ID than the O ring that was in the gun. A #9 drill bit will take it out to the stock size. That Teflon is really hard and it takes some effort to get the ID reamed out. I don’t think that it will blow out of the barrel.

Got off from work, at 2AM and pulled the R3 apart. No O ring. Turned the reg down a little more and put the gun back together. No air leak!
Ed, is there any way that you could quickly get some of the copper rings to Tony? It sounds like there are a few R3 owners that have a gun that didn’t come with one.
Didnt make it to Lowes today. Had to go to range to get the special use permit for the members only range . heh heh.
I will go to lowes tomorrow and hopefully fix the issue.

EDIT: oh… I just saw Eds post.
Sorry guys, as I was afraid while crossing the border the guns were disassembled and the courier lost the brass ring (for .25 it should be installed brass ring). I see two options, first one — give me your post address and I will send the brass rings to yuou, the second just make it with the lathe, the diameter is 8 mm, the hight is 1.5 mm, the thickness is 1 mm.
Sorry for that, it will not happen in the future since we began assembling in Estonia.
Ed
F and D, I sent you an email. Check it out before heading out to Lowes!
For the rest of you guys, we have Teflon O rings at work. SAE #AS586A-008 is the number of an O ring that, except for being .020″ less ID, is identical to the stock O ring.
On my R2.5s, there is a copper O ring there instead of the rubber one.
My .22cal Long Edgun has no o-ring in that place. It has I think brass ring that is perfectly square from both ends and it sits flat against the valve port and front breach port But no rubber o-ring. When I tight two screws down the breach sandwiches the ring and no leak has been detected. The key is, I think it has to be perfectly square.
Oh crap I forgot….come back here a moment, don’t forget to get you some HILLMAN 5/16″ plastic hole plugs for your fill port. they are in the hardware isle….now you can go.

I am puzzled
I have followed the Eds video and made sure the ring is in its proper place. Is the ring suppose to be Dry or Lubed with silicone lube?
Pic below.

and one more pic.
Is there suppose to be a ring there too?… It doesnt look like there should be.

No o-ring on that 2nd photo, just a groove

Washington !! Hell go to Lowes now….stop reading and get your ass moving 🙂
LAter
Look at the O–ring difference….
One on the left is a stock Edgun air port to barrel O-ring
One of the Right is a Lowes model described above.

You will see that the Lowes is ever so slightly bigger round and thicker. It fit into that groove perfectly for me and I can feel it compress a little.
Try it and report back. I suspect you;ll be happy

Ok. I will try the Lowes O-Rings in the morning.
or this evening.
Before you flip out try this….and this fixed mine. I went to Lowes and bought a package of O-rings DANCO #47 O-ring….11/32 od x 7/32 id x 1/16″.
Comes with 10 o-rings
Take the gun apart and dab a little silicon paste on the ring and stick it on the barrel part of the gun ( not the breech part ).
Carefully slide the action/barrel back over the pressure tube and center it in it’s place carefully. When you have is centered where it needs to go, you start the front TWO short screws losely. Run them down until you see the seam between the top and lower half start to compress. Start the rear two long screws. Run them down a little. Back to the fronts, side to side and then rears. Torque them down and then put the two short screws in the side tube and then retighten the one under the trigger assembly.
The trick is to keep everythign aligned while installing the two front/rear screws.
Try it and report back. Go to Lowes in the morning. they will have them

Lowes O-ring failed too. Held on for 5 shots and then flew out of the barrel.
