Q:

My new R3 is discharging air

Around the breech area seam. It is NOT the little breech O-rings. I checked, double checked and even changed them out. This is my new 25cal R3 that we’re talking about. so I did not get much shootin in before I had to stop. It is loud in that area and discharges air upon triggering. Does not leak continuiously, so it’s not the valve. Look at my picture, you will see my delima. I am thinking two things based on the Ed video of the Matador assembly, little o-ring/gasket between the valve and barrel mount, or the o-ring on the barrel itself.

Help !

Tachdriver, did you reduce the reg’s pressure or is 883 fps how Ed had it set up?

Stock settings, I bothered nothing so far. Trigger needs a slight adjustment.

Hell it’s punching one big hole in 5 shots !

Ed – Give us the demensions of that Moderator cover O-ring that is located at the muzzle of the gun. Size of a quarter and really skinny. I’ll order a bunch.

Yes def need those. I emailed Ed and he said that he will ship some out, but if we know dimensions we can order bunch and split it between R3 owners.

Zero’d in on the 5th shot, basically one hole group now at 35 yards. FPE = 44.6. Velocity averaged 883 +/- 2.5 fps per 10 shots. Shooting the JSB 25.4 Exact kings.

Edgun quiet. No depinger needed. No blast of air at all at the breech now.

One thing, when this gun misses during the zeroing, that pellet sounds like it tearing up hell thru those tall weeds. Devastating.

I am happy now.

I got the O-ring at Lowes – If you go there get DANCO #96761 11/32″ od x 7/32″ id x 1/16″ – Works perfectly and I am now GOOD TO GO.

Taking this gun apart is very easy using Eds video.

Still need the skinny moderator quarter size o-ring. Tony is sending me one. Looks like we’ll need to order us a handful of those especially. They are fragile if you remove the mod cover often. Put some silicone grease on it and maybe it’ll last longer thru those cover threads.

You should have packet with spare O-rings, there should be couple of 5×1,5 O-rings for the probe, those are what you need.

Ed

Well keep me in mind on that O-ring when you do. Looks like this one is another O-ring to put inside the packet with the gun, along with that flimsy moderator O-ring Ed/Tony.

Tachdriver, I am surprised that you doubted me! 😆

I was going to post that you don’t have to depressure the gun to change or in your case to install the O ring when my email caught up and I saw that you had the gun apart already.

Thanks for letting us know the O ring’s size. I am going to order 200 of them and include them in future shipments of O rings that I send out to us Edgun owners.

I haven’t had the barrel off yet but, the barrel is screwed into the front breech block and I don’t think that Ed uses an O ring there anymore.

PS, you have hairy knuckles! 😆

O-ring I need is 5×1.5mm with inside diameter of 5mm.

FOUND THE PROBLEM -THERE IS NO O-RING THERE ! So Old goat was right, should be one, but ole 2754 came without one. So off I go to find one. Hell, I got off 6 shots to zero in the Bushnell before I called it quits.

As he said, VERY easy to strip down. And you don not have to depressure it.

Later

Does the gun have to be depressured to safely dismantle to that O-ring ? I am fixing it in the morning.

Tachdriver, there is an O ring there. I have had my R3 25 down that far. You will need to cock the gun, remove the rear breech block, remove the stock, take out the 2 trigger housing screws, remove the 2 side screws in the rear end cap and finally you remove the 2 screws in the front breech block.

The rear end cap, hammer housing and trigger housing assembly will then slide out the back of the gun.

The front breech block, barrel and shroud assembly ect will now slide off of the back of the gun.

It is just that easy! 😆

So easy a caveman (or Oldgoat) can do it!

If the gun is going to be apart while you are buying an O ring, I would recommend that you de cock the hammer by firmly pulling it back, pulling the trigger and easing the hammer forward.

I don’t know what size that O ring, sorry. If you go buy one, please let us know what size it is.
