Q:

My new R3 is discharging air

Around the breech area seam. It is NOT the little breech O-rings. I checked, double checked and even changed them out. This is my new 25cal R3 that we’re talking about. so I did not get much shootin in before I had to stop. It is loud in that area and discharges air upon triggering. Does not leak continuiously, so it’s not the valve. Look at my picture, you will see my delima. I am thinking two things based on the Ed video of the Matador assembly, little o-ring/gasket between the valve and barrel mount, or the o-ring on the barrel itself.

Help !

I cant say for certain, as I havent had my AirArms apart in over a year, but they use a Teflon (or similar) washer in that spot. Finding the correct thickness might be a bit hard though.

Possibly a harder 0-ring that resists deformation better?

It does appear the machining is off a little. Surprised there isn’t a raised lip so the 0-ring cannot enter the port.

Yeah. I really want to get it fixed properly.

Machining is off by alot not little. left side twice smaller than right. O-ring just compresses and pressure rips it out and sends it flying out of the barrel =)

🙁 🙁 🙁

I think I found out what the problem is.

After each time I install the Barrel Port O-Ring (the one that was supplied witht he kit 5×1.5) and carefully reassemble everything. R3 shoots the o-ring out of the barrel like a pellet. Second and third time it held in for one shot and shot out of the barrel on second shot.

After taking gun apart for 4 time I carefully examined the O-ring seat area and I can definitely tell the the port opening was drilled off center making O-Ring seat smaller on left side and larger on the right side ( check the picture)

the only thing I can think of that the once installed the O-Ring doesn’t compress equally on both sides and slips into the barrel port under pressure during the shot.

I am pretty bummed out right now since I cant even shoot the brand new gun.

What do I do? I dont think it is something I can fix. It looks like a Manufacturing problem. Send the gun back to Tony?

I wanted to shoot it so bad… and now this.

F and D, you have the O ring that you need in the spare O rings that came with the gun. The really small O rings are for the probe. The next size up is the one you need. 5 mm X 1.5 mm.

Can’t help you much I’m afraid, – but you certainly know how to document !!

Some superb pics my friend….!!! 😀

I took it apart and looked like the ring was gone. replaced it with the one supplied with gun and it is still leaking frob under the front beech block when shot. pretty strong puff of air… cant shoot it like that.

I am puzzled

I have followed the Eds video and made sure the ring is in its proper place. Is the ring suppose to be Dry or Lubed with silicone lube?

Pic below.

and one more pic.

Is there suppose to be a ring there too?… It doesnt look like there should be.

Ed told me that at the border they had to disassemble them to get them across. The O-ring was possibly lost there. Ed also told me that the spare O-rings in the bag that came with your gun for the air probe is the same size you need for the barrel port.

It is very easy to take apart, email me if you need help doing it. Do not scratch your new gun doing it. No need to depressure the gun either.

Just got to shoot my .25.

SAME issue. Air is discharging from the same place!

I will take it apart and see if the O ring is missing.

I’ve also got three emails in to suppliers so between us we should find them

Thanks

Tachdriver, the smallest SAE standard O ring diameter is 1/16″ or .0625. That O ring is metric and is 1 mm or .03937″.

I have a supplier for 90 duro metric O rings and I think that I am just going to order a shit load of all of the needed sizes for the Matadors. I have the dimentions of all of the O rings except for the baffle O ring. I have emailed Tony and asked for the size of the O ring in the baffle.

These are the same hardness O rings that I sent you and they are not really expensive when ordered in bulk. The probe and barrel O rings are $20 for 500. I don’t know if the larger O rings cost more than that. I am thinking that 4 complete sets, plus a few extra probe O rings wouldn’t be over $10 S&H included. I am not looking to make any money on this, I will just figure up my cost and ship them for that.

I am sending an email to the supplier asking for a quote. I will post a new topic here when I hear back from him.

Well I have determined that the Moderator O-ring is .040″ thick – @ 3/64″.

And harder than hell to find !

The diameter is .830″ round. about 3/4″ would stretch fine.

R3 folks, don’t forget to go to Lowes and buy your Fill probe caps. They have then in the special fasteners isleway. Get 5/16″ diameter black.

Also still trying to get that large skinny O-ring measurement. And did you notice that there are TWO of them in there. Top and btm grooves exist for them

I was having in mind 18 gr. in .22 and 25.4 gr. in .25. I don’t use lighter pellets because they are more affected by the wind. My shooting is 100% outdoors.

Tachdriver, did you reduce the reg’s pressure or is 883 fps how Ed had it set up?

880-890 fps = best accuracy 😉 with either .22 or .25 JSBs. I don’t have enough practice with the .177 cal. to claim the same.

😀

And that’s for both the 16 and 18 grainers?

My 16’ers prefer 910fps in the matador..
