new .22 R3 Edgun needs your help!
Hello Gentleman. I’m new to the forum and wish to introduce myself. My name is Mike and I’m a retired timber faller from northern CA. Who has rejuvenated the youth within, with these here air guns. I’ve lurked here for some time and decided to quite being a peeping tom and join the ranks. Also would like to thank Anthony for allowing and getting me up and running.
Gentleman I need some assistance in solving an issue with my new Edguns performance. I have emailed Tony in regards to the guns performance and he has forwarded it onto Ed. Ed is presently on vacation so I don’t expect to hear from him anytime soon. This section of the Talon Forum appears to be the official us based forum for Edgun. I have been amazed to the insight, help and contribution individuals here have contributed with their knowledge and their willingness to help others. I hope someday I can reciprocate but as it stands now I’m the new kid on the block with little to no knowledge and ask for your insight. Any and all ideas are most welcome.

Recently received my Edgun .22 R3 after nearly a year wait. Was stoked to get an email from Tony just prior to Christmas indicating my Edgun had arrived! I recently took possession. At first glance and after handling my first Edgun encounter all I can say is WOW. More than I had expected. I’m Pleased with the way it feels and looks, BUT, the performance (out of box) is not up to expectations. Check out the chronograph string below. I’m not a tuner and the Manual is written in Russian. Needless to say I have an email in to Tony in hopes of some guidance. I’m sure it’s something simple and the problem will be worked out – sooner than later I hope. The intention of this post is not to bash Edgun, as I have said I’m pleased , stoked and Wowed by the aerodynamics and esthetics of this gun. Looking for input in hopes of educating myself and getting this gun up and running to its potential. Thank you for any and all input as to what may be the cause of the guns performance. As mentioned above I’m not a tuner , and find myself apprehensive to diving in and adjusting things until I have a better understanding . Perhaps someone has the Manual in English?
The gun filled to 200 bars and end with just over 70 bars in 25 shots (regulated). High velocity of 875.6 low being 716.3 with a spread of 159.3 fps. Not so good!

Synopsys, I know what you mean. I have one and now wanting another!
I’m looking to get one more airgun at least for this year and looking to get a .25. Don’t know if it will be a EDgun long, Theoben or Daystate but I’m presently leaning towards the EDgun. Not to make your wait any worse than already is – I find after owning an Edgun I find myself liking this gun more and more with each passing day. Now that says something about this gun. I was not a bullpump fan before this purchase and still don’t when looking at other bullpumps other than the Edgun. The Edgun certainly has my eye and I love the looks and design along with the simplicity of which they can be worked on. Hope your wait is short!

Made a slight error in the posting above (the gun’s gauge reads 15 bars less, not more, than tank gauges so in other words at 200 bars the gun is at 3,175 psi not 2900 psi.
Finally the Edgun is coming around. The gun’s present adjustment is a far cry as to its performance of first receiving the new Edgun. Look back to the first post and see the shot string of 25 shots with an ES of 159 fps and know why now I’m feeling so ecstatic.
Mind you I’m no tuner and have never been inside an air gun before and was, at first, very intimidated. After much help from Oldgoat and ED himself along with over 2,000 pellets down range, I’m glad to report that gun is shooting much better and I’m beginning to relax and actually able to shot for my enjoyment. Perhaps receiving not so tuned EDgun was a good thing. To be able to work on your own tools and learning how to adjust and why too, only helps one gain confidence which I have benefited greatly from. A big Thanks goes out to Tedd and ED for their help and support and to this here forum.
This was my last shooting session. I have the gun shooting at the velocity I was seeking for at around 900 fps to match my other PCP’s velocities. The Accuracy is coming along as well and will try to post picture of this session if someone kindly enough to tell me how (help!).
EDgun .22 R3 JSB 18.1 40 Yard
Chronograph Velocities – Started with 200 Bar, Gun’s gauge (which is 15 bars higher than my two SCBA tanks that are consistent with the Fire Dept’s gauges. So the start fill is approx. 3,175 psi. Notes: ED fills his gun to 220 bars. On new fill I find it necessary to shoot once or twice to eliminate any abnormal velocities before logging shot strings.

Notice the four error shots, I thought because I was losing my day light (evening time – sun was setting) that my shooting session was over – not the case. It took me four shots to realize that my gun had scooted over just enough to be shooting the pellets to close to the chronies edge to register the velocity thus gave a reading of Error. I have no reason to believe that anyone of those four shots would have indicated any major difference than what the gun was shooting prior too.
As to Accuracy I’m beginning to see groups of ten with 5/16” ctc at 40 yards. I believe there is room for improvement. Using a more stable table along with sand bag(s) or least a sand bag for back support with the Harris bipod I’m now using would certainly increase the consistence of the 5/16” ten shot groups that I’m now seeing. The EDgun is wearing a Bushnell 6500 Elite 2.5-16×42. I like the scope (I had better at over 5 bills) and will be looking forward to hundred yard targets to really test the guns (and my) ability for accuracy . Another reason I like this scope is that it is fairly compact and light with nearly 80 MOA of adjustment that will come in handy at long range shooting.

Yep Air Arms S510 are a great gun! machine work is as good as it gets especially for the price! I wanted to give something else a try so my FX royale 400 showed up today Friday the 13th who said that was a bad day 😯 😯 . anyway have to wait on the weather now, it is not good for shooting here in Indiana anyway.

Mike if I missed it let me know! Was your origingal problem just not filling to 200 bar? or did you find an air leak between the barrel and air tube! I know you mentioned not getting it filled because of guage readings being different was that your only problem?? 😯
Just one suggestion and this is from Ed and I found it to be true.Put
2000 rounds through your gun and it will perform better.Also took me a while to adjust to shooting a bullpup.For best accuracy off a bench I use a tackdriver front rest with non trigger hand in a loose fist under rear of stock.
I don`t get those Theoben worshippers either.Ten year old design for big money and I think most send to AZ for another $700 to bring it up to
date.I`m not a big hunter but I`ve got about a dozen squirrels in the
40 to 70 yd range and haven`t missed any yet point being I don`t really
like using a magazine.Later,mark

Mike, will do that as long as I have enough air to feed my Edgun and get a reliable Chronograph, in view that Zoco has several of them but the readings are not consistent.:roll:

Mike, that is a great string with a total almost 70 shots. What was the ending pressure? Would you mind sharing how you tune the gun to reach the point you are now? This may be helpful to others who might encounter the same problems as you had when they get their new EDgun(s), although I don’t expect that will happen frequently.
