new .22 R3 Edgun needs your help!
Hello Gentleman. I’m new to the forum and wish to introduce myself. My name is Mike and I’m a retired timber faller from northern CA. Who has rejuvenated the youth within, with these here air guns. I’ve lurked here for some time and decided to quite being a peeping tom and join the ranks. Also would like to thank Anthony for allowing and getting me up and running.
Gentleman I need some assistance in solving an issue with my new Edguns performance. I have emailed Tony in regards to the guns performance and he has forwarded it onto Ed. Ed is presently on vacation so I don’t expect to hear from him anytime soon. This section of the Talon Forum appears to be the official us based forum for Edgun. I have been amazed to the insight, help and contribution individuals here have contributed with their knowledge and their willingness to help others. I hope someday I can reciprocate but as it stands now I’m the new kid on the block with little to no knowledge and ask for your insight. Any and all ideas are most welcome.

Recently received my Edgun .22 R3 after nearly a year wait. Was stoked to get an email from Tony just prior to Christmas indicating my Edgun had arrived! I recently took possession. At first glance and after handling my first Edgun encounter all I can say is WOW. More than I had expected. I’m Pleased with the way it feels and looks, BUT, the performance (out of box) is not up to expectations. Check out the chronograph string below. I’m not a tuner and the Manual is written in Russian. Needless to say I have an email in to Tony in hopes of some guidance. I’m sure it’s something simple and the problem will be worked out – sooner than later I hope. The intention of this post is not to bash Edgun, as I have said I’m pleased , stoked and Wowed by the aerodynamics and esthetics of this gun. Looking for input in hopes of educating myself and getting this gun up and running to its potential. Thank you for any and all input as to what may be the cause of the guns performance. As mentioned above I’m not a tuner , and find myself apprehensive to diving in and adjusting things until I have a better understanding . Perhaps someone has the Manual in English?
The gun filled to 200 bars and end with just over 70 bars in 25 shots (regulated). High velocity of 875.6 low being 716.3 with a spread of 159.3 fps. Not so good!

If you start at 800 and slowy increase the speed, you will get a peak. It you keep increasing the hammer spring tension, the speed will drop and then will start going up again and you will get a second peak. The second peak may be as high as the first peak but, you will use a lot more air with each shot and will get fewer regulated shots.
I am new to the Edgun and somewhat confused by the shot strings. In several Ed’s posts, he mentioned to slowly increase speed from low (800 fps in some posts and 500 fps here) to high and get/use the first peak. Does that mean there are several peaks along the way of tension increments?

500 Fps is very very low.. I would start from 800fps.. but on the otherhand, if Ed says.. he has a reason I guess..
Zoco, Thanks for posting. It helps me to understand the guns desposistion . How is your accuracy? Do you find that with more lead down range the gun settles in and performs more consistent? Ed suggested I start with a velocity of 500 fps and adjust the tension little by little till I get to first peak then shot group. Today I will be doing as Ed suggests as I am curious to where the peak actual is. You have suggested 910 as the starting velocity and so has Tedd. Perhaps instead of me tell the gun what to do maybe I should be listen to what the gun has to say if you know what I mean. Today will be interesting for me today and I’ll be sure to post results later. Mike

Noted variables: There is a 15 Bars difference between the Edgun’s gauge and the 4500 Psi SCBA filling tank gauge with the gun’s gauge registering the lesser amount. The string of 50 shots was first having the gun being filled to 200 Bar according to SCBA gauge. The next 50 shoot String (with same adjustment) was shot with gun being filled to 200 bars according to its own gauge. I found the later string produced a better shot string.
Gun filled to 200 Bars ( SCBA guage read 215 Bars) using 18.1 grain JSB pellets .

This starts to look like my own first strings with very consistent shots at the beginning (until shot 41), where the reg seems to come off leaving room for an unregulated part at the end…..
ED himself in his videos fills until 220 bar. The guns themselves have been marked 200 bar max, but I don’t think 210/220 will do much harm. It will only give you a little more shots.
Knowing that chronos read differently (I have five chronos now, none of them reading the same …. 🙄 ), – I would adjust (rotate hammerspring just a little bit in (half a turn) and try filling the gun to 220.
Then run through a complete string again. My guess is you will get some 65/70 good shots at roughly 910 fps before the reg comes off and fps may climb for a few shots before dropping quickly….
As I understand it, the reg is factory set at 130 bar and the gun optimized for some 920 fps with JSB 18 grs…… 😉

On a serious note, unconfirmed rumor has it that Ed is mass producing magazines, and a semi-auto kit, and attempting to get them into the US.
Interesting development, as the semi-auto action is a retro-fit kit that is a bolt on to new and older models of the Edgun.
It reads as though the new mag-feed action will be sold as a new Edgun model, and not a retro-fit kit. That’s good in that it will be self indexing, bad in that older Edguns may not be retro-fitable, but then I don’t really know for sure.
I’m also guessing the semi-auto kit is not inexpensive.
We live in interesting times, with surprises coming from Ed…

Did adjusting the hammer spring tension help? 50 shots with ES of 36 is getting better but it is still a ways off from what you should be getting.
Ed has said that if the Matador sits for a long while the O rings and the air valve’s Teflon seal can sometimes take a set that can take a few shots to work out. Please post the shot string here and keep us updated on your progress!
When you get the Matador straightened out, you really need to post on the yellow and let all of the Edgun haters there know how it shoots! That site is something else! Some there are real quick to dump on Edguns but they love Chinese junk and have no problem with somebody paying $2000 for a Rapid and without shooting it, sending it off, paying another $500 to get it fixed and waiting a couple of months to get it back!
Mike, my typing skills suck and my spelling is horrible! When I am going to post something, I compose my post in a Word document first and then cut and paste it.
Synopsys I’m still here. I just spent 20 minutes writting a reply post only to submit it and have it disapper into thin air. In my original post I referred to the term Gentleman only to have Tedd set me straight. There was no disrespect intended! In the future let it ge known that I use this term loosely as to not affend anyone. As for posting I am the worlds worst speller and can easily have a book of Michaelisms published. I have to have this here electronic dickionary if I want you guys to be able to read it. Think of hiring a private secretary to take dicktation for me but you guys would clamer for pictures and I haven’t figured out how to do that yet.
It either hangs one way or the other, except for Hoot, I think he sees everything straight up. The only difference between here and the yellow is that it just hangs a little to the other. The posts here are definitely unpredictable and intertaining – keep them coming. Mike
between my conversations with Tedd and the vedio links Hoot posted I have gotten this gun shooting a string of 50 shots with an ES of 36 psi a far cry from original sting of 25 with an ES of 159 psi. Sill is some hiccups to work out but at least its coming around. Plan on doing some accuracy tests and some micro ajustments to fine tune but really I think that sending down range a 1000 rounds might help gun to settle in some then can make a better assessment. Tedd I sent you a pm last night with the last string to see what you think. Let me know if you didn’t get it. I’m still stumbling around with this here forum. I definitely thank everyone here with a special nod to Tedd for schooling me. I’m a slow learner with a thick skull but at least I am gaining confidence that perhaps one day I’ll too may be able to figure out these here pcp’s. As I’ve said before being the new kid on the block I don’t feel I have anything to give back but let it be known if anyone of you ever in my neighborhood there is always a pot of coffee on a warm meal on the stove. Hi to everyone who is up and running. I would like to asked everyone to post there present shot string for those who do have chrony’s. to compile a post to help me and others new to Edguns for comparisons, to have better understandings. A show of accuracies along with shot strings would be very information and great for discussions. who knows I might want to trade edguns with you! just kidding – this gun isn’t going anywhere. Perhaps there is already a post on this subject that i’m not awhere of. Just a thought if nothing else it will keep the place here jumping. New blood and ideas bring more posts and lurkers.
