Q:

new .22 R3 Edgun needs your help!

Hello Gentleman. I’m new to the forum and wish to introduce myself. My name is Mike and I’m a retired timber faller from northern CA. Who has rejuvenated the youth within, with these here air guns. I’ve lurked here for some time and decided to quite being a peeping tom and join the ranks. Also would like to thank Anthony for allowing and getting me up and running.

Gentleman I need some assistance in solving an issue with my new Edguns performance. I have emailed Tony in regards to the guns performance and he has forwarded it onto Ed. Ed is presently on vacation so I don’t expect to hear from him anytime soon. This section of the Talon Forum appears to be the official us based forum for Edgun. I have been amazed to the insight, help and contribution individuals here have contributed with their knowledge and their willingness to help others. I hope someday I can reciprocate but as it stands now I’m the new kid on the block with little to no knowledge and ask for your insight. Any and all ideas are most welcome.

I have attached my post from the yellow forum in hopes of hearing that magic response that may help find a solution:

Recently received my Edgun .22 R3 after nearly a year wait. Was stoked to get an email from Tony just prior to Christmas indicating my Edgun had arrived! I recently took possession. At first glance and after handling my first Edgun encounter all I can say is WOW. More than I had expected. I’m Pleased with the way it feels and looks, BUT, the performance (out of box) is not up to expectations. Check out the chronograph string below. I’m not a tuner and the Manual is written in Russian. Needless to say I have an email in to Tony in hopes of some guidance. I’m sure it’s something simple and the problem will be worked out – sooner than later I hope. The intention of this post is not to bash Edgun, as I have said I’m pleased , stoked and Wowed by the aerodynamics and esthetics of this gun. Looking for input in hopes of educating myself and getting this gun up and running to its potential. Thank you for any and all input as to what may be the cause of the guns performance. As mentioned above I’m not a tuner , and find myself apprehensive to diving in and adjusting things until I have a better understanding . Perhaps someone has the Manual in English?

The gun filled to 200 bars and end with just over 70 bars in 25 shots (regulated). High velocity of 875.6 low being 716.3 with a spread of 159.3 fps. Not so good!

1) 875.6 11) 844.6 21) 758.5
2) 870.7 12) 839.2 22) 742.6
3) 869.8 13) 833.4 23) 734.5
4) 867.9 14) 827.8 24) 721.5
5) 863.6 15) 824.9 25) 716.3
6) 857.7 16) 815.9
7) 857.9 17) 798.8
8) 852.8 18) 788.9
9) 848.8 19) 774.3
10)846.6 20) 766.2

Thanks, Mike
Sorry, don’t mean to be rude by not posting pictures – that will be my next learning curve.

Are your balls over-sized? Would you get your calipers out and measure them, end to end? I’m curious.

Hoot

Everybody is more used to CTC 😀

Kazz, I’m trying to measure mine now, how do I do “CTC”?

Hoot

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: Right nut is 34.5mm end to end. Can’t find the left one??? It was there last night. I’ll check again later.

Hoot

So, you’re a righty 😀
CTC: measure the total length and subtract the avarage diameter 😀

Will your neighbor pose with the parts???

We might be able to work your skills into this project.

Demented,

Uncle Hoot

From Lanzarote where GF is hampering my ability to actively take part on the forum right now:

The initial problem does indeed sound like a leak somewhere. If you compare with my own shotstrings, – you may easily see the difference. This gun is 1) Leaking air or 2) not filled properly. The shotstring speaks for itself……..

Sorry to hear about these problems, – but there is nothing here that cannot be easily fixed.

Question: If you fill the gun and leave it, – does the pressure drop overnight ?

Cheers from Trygve in Lanzarote 😀

PS: As for English instructions, – I’ll volunteer to take pictures if neeeded….

Another great help from great people!!!
Hoot, nice post for not only the TS but for every one! Should be a stikcy post in the Edgun Forum with all the general info about edguns!
Maybe you, OG, Zoco, me and some others can work some document out and post it?

What a lot of us Westerners want is an English language version of the Edgun manual. (A Spanish version would be nice too!) Ed has too much going on, so we should do it ourselves and put a .pdf file on here so everyone can read it in two more commonly used languages.

Here’s how we can do it….

1) Someone translate it, word for word, page for page, and send it to me in a .pdf file.

2) I’ll post it, and take credit for it.

I don’t believe anyone realized how simple it would be to do, until I was able to break it down into just two steps.

No need for thanks. My genius is a gift and I am willing to share it with everyone.

Kindly ‘Ol Uncle Hoot

PS: Ashamed of your pcp? Tired of people laughing at your rifle? Do women refuse you sexual favors because of rumors that you have low fps/fpe?

Send Uncle Hoot $5.00 USD, and receive a genuine, certified certificate of Certification for your rifle. A “Certified” pcp places you above the swarming masses of stupid people who happen to own an air rifle, and places YOU in the top echelon of “those in the know”. YOU can be the “Zocoloco” in your area!!! (Certificate suitable for framing, and public display)

Yes, my friends, you too can be the owner of a “Certified” rifle. Call now! Operators are standing by.

PS PS: For an additional $5.00 USD, I’ll post date it, wrinkle the paper, smear some mustard on the edges, and you will then have a “Collector’s Edition” with the registration number of “.0001”. This is a limited time offer.

Hey HOOT, I just watched my video and I still think that I sound like a GOON!

Goat, you are not as old as you say you are. That voice is strong, masculine, and full of vigor.

Are your balls over-sized? Would you get your calipers out and measure them, end to end? I’m curious. Inches/mm both would be preferred, so everyone can compare theirs to yours.

Obviously, you have a lot of testosterone in your system.

The video is fine, leave it alone.

Hoot

Thanks guys. My hat is off to each and everyone of you. Your quick response and willingness to jump in and help at a moments notice is much appreciated.

Hoot, Great job bring up the links. Been reviewing them and gaining confidence. Who says old dogs can’t learn new tricks.

Tedd has been in touch with me and has made arrangements to call him. Fact is I need to get off here and place a call to him. I’ll catch up with you folks shortly and again THANKS……………………………

Mike

Hey HOOT, I just watched my video and I still think that I sound like a GOON!

Thanks for reminding me about that!

I need to redo it!

When I did that vid, I thought that the R3s came with a Buta N O ring instead of the copper O ring that the R2,5s came with.

After the video, I found out that customs took my gun apart and lost my copper O ring. I thought that I blew the Buna N O ring out of it’s seat and out of the barrel.

I found Tefoln O rings to replace the copper O ring. I now have the copper O ring but, the Teflon O ring is still working and I haven’t swapped it out.

I wonder if customs has got a hold of Mike’s Edgun and the copper O ring is missing also.

This will be interesting!

Thanks for putting me in there HOOT you over way over age juvenile delinquent! 😆

That vid took a lot of work, many retakes and more than a couple of beers!

Ed has given me his Skype address/number/whatever (I have no idea what Skype is!)!

It might be worth asking Ed if he would be interested in doing a video tear down and reassembly of the Matador. He could do all of the work and I could talk.

Now THAT would be a truly international effort!

By the way Mike, If you need any O rings, I have them.

Thanx HOOT.

These are the only two adjustments you need worry about for now:

1) Adjusting the trigger video in English by Ed.

2) Adjusting the hammer spring video in English by Ed.

Leave everything else alone for now! and shoot it for a good while.

Spend some time reading the past posts on the Edgun threads and watching the videos.

Familiarity will come with time and handling of the gun. Meanwhile, don’t experiment. Get the trigger where you want it, and the hammer spring adjusted to the fps you need, and then simply shoot shoot shoot shoot….

Don’t bother putting in the depinger, showed in Ted’s video, until you determine whether you even have a ping, or if it’s worth correcting. It’s easily done and can wait until you get comfortable with the Edgun’s simplicity.

One other thing…be sure to watch ALL of “Ted’s Holdover” Youtube videos referencing the Edgun. His other videos are all pcp and accuracy educational, and worth your time.

Sorry, that’s all I can find. All of it may not make sense at first, until you get familiar with your Edgun, then it may prove priceless when you forget what part goes where.

Please feel free to add to this list if anyone can find more. Once completed, this might make a good item for the “Reference” section.

Welcome Mike!!

You’ll find all the help you need here to get everything sorted out. Rest assured the best minds on the planet will be on this helping you to get up and running in short order. And from what I have seen in the past there is no issue that can’t be resolved or remedied with the EdGun brand on this forum.

You came to the right place. 😀

Is is really loud when you shoot? It appears to be using about five times the normal amount of air…

Normally you would get 50-70 shots before the rifle gets off the reg at around 130bar…

What weight pellets are you using?

Your starting velocity should be in the low 900’s with an 18.1 grain pellet (JSB)…

It’s like the hammer spring is set too low and the valve is sticking or something odd like that so too much air is being used with too low a velocity. 😕 Or maybe that is what happens when the hammer spring is too tight and the hammer bounces off the valve on a full fill.

edit- Looks like I ended up repeating most of what the fine Mr. Hoot said and posted while I was typing away… 🙁 Ah, hell, i’m too lazy to edit it today so, welcome to the TAG!! 😆
