Q:

new .22 R3 Edgun needs your help!

Hello Gentleman. I’m new to the forum and wish to introduce myself. My name is Mike and I’m a retired timber faller from northern CA. Who has rejuvenated the youth within, with these here air guns. I’ve lurked here for some time and decided to quite being a peeping tom and join the ranks. Also would like to thank Anthony for allowing and getting me up and running.

Gentleman I need some assistance in solving an issue with my new Edguns performance. I have emailed Tony in regards to the guns performance and he has forwarded it onto Ed. Ed is presently on vacation so I don’t expect to hear from him anytime soon. This section of the Talon Forum appears to be the official us based forum for Edgun. I have been amazed to the insight, help and contribution individuals here have contributed with their knowledge and their willingness to help others. I hope someday I can reciprocate but as it stands now I’m the new kid on the block with little to no knowledge and ask for your insight. Any and all ideas are most welcome.

I have attached my post from the yellow forum in hopes of hearing that magic response that may help find a solution:

Recently received my Edgun .22 R3 after nearly a year wait. Was stoked to get an email from Tony just prior to Christmas indicating my Edgun had arrived! I recently took possession. At first glance and after handling my first Edgun encounter all I can say is WOW. More than I had expected. I’m Pleased with the way it feels and looks, BUT, the performance (out of box) is not up to expectations. Check out the chronograph string below. I’m not a tuner and the Manual is written in Russian. Needless to say I have an email in to Tony in hopes of some guidance. I’m sure it’s something simple and the problem will be worked out – sooner than later I hope. The intention of this post is not to bash Edgun, as I have said I’m pleased , stoked and Wowed by the aerodynamics and esthetics of this gun. Looking for input in hopes of educating myself and getting this gun up and running to its potential. Thank you for any and all input as to what may be the cause of the guns performance. As mentioned above I’m not a tuner , and find myself apprehensive to diving in and adjusting things until I have a better understanding . Perhaps someone has the Manual in English?

The gun filled to 200 bars and end with just over 70 bars in 25 shots (regulated). High velocity of 875.6 low being 716.3 with a spread of 159.3 fps. Not so good!

1) 875.6 11) 844.6 21) 758.5
2) 870.7 12) 839.2 22) 742.6
3) 869.8 13) 833.4 23) 734.5
4) 867.9 14) 827.8 24) 721.5
5) 863.6 15) 824.9 25) 716.3
6) 857.7 16) 815.9
7) 857.9 17) 798.8
8) 852.8 18) 788.9
9) 848.8 19) 774.3
10)846.6 20) 766.2

Thanks, Mike
Sorry, don’t mean to be rude by not posting pictures – that will be my next learning curve.

If O rings turn out to be the problem, don’t worry. Old Goat has a large supply on hand. If he doesn’t have the right one, I might. Keep us posted.

My experience in this area have been either a missing O ring, or a fitting that needed a bit of tightening.

Again, I recommend you check out Ed’s English language videos on Youtube.

There is no question on an Edgun that can’t be answered on this forum.

You should be shooting in the mid-900 fps range with the 18gr JSB pellets. I suggest you shoot no other, unless you need some 21gr for a bit of heavy work. I have good luck with Barracudas as well.

I’m curious to see if the leak test at the breech blows the tissue off. There are a couple tiny O rings in there that are easily replaced and I had one once that worked its way out of its groove. No reason for it…I tucked it back in and it never happened again.

By the way, pick up some silicone diver’s grease at your local dive shop. It’s the lube of preference for O ring maintenance.

Hoot

Hi, Mike:
I also got the Edgun R3 .22 about the same time as yours right after Christmas. Sorry to hear the problem, but I think it will be easy to fix if it is the 0-ring problem. PM me if you want me to test something for comparison.
Regards,
Endo

Much appreciated Tedd. Look forward to hearing from you. Meanwhile i’ll test for leaks with tissue.

Hi Mike, Welcome abord! and

Welcome to the Edgun Owners Club!

Be forewarned, you will find no gentlemen here! 😆

I saw your post on the Yellow and I have been trying to figure out what is going on.

Try filling up the gun and put a couple of small pieces of tissue paper over the loading port and drape a larger piece over the front Breech block. They should stay in place when the gun fires.

You say that you fill to 200 bars. Are you using the Matador’s gauge or one on your tank? I wonder if you are getting a full fill?

The hammer spring tension adjusting screw might need adjusting. It might be turned in too far and be waisting a lot of air every shot. You should get at least 60 regulated shots per fill.

I will pm you later tonight.
