Poor quality Cricket barrels
Hi,
We have noticed in Poland that our Crickets have poor quality thread in the barrel. The thread is damaged in the choke section – 2-3 cm starting from the muzzle. The rest of the thread is crystal clear.
Here are some pictures:

Multiple Crickets are affected. This is riddiculus for me.
Guys, please paste your photos. You should remove the silencer and then you can use your mobile phone’s camera LED that is capable of producing strong light. The light should be shed in the loading port. Then you can look into the muzzle. You may be shocked :angrymob:

I hope you solve it . Here couple of guy has crickets from first batch similar nr. as your and nobody claim problem. I think when you change al. stem you will have identical gun like from 2014
Ville, I’ll PM you not to pollute the thread.
I know this : You know a thing or two about them AG’s and PCP’s so i’m sure you’ll find the accuracy these Bugs are known for. If you want to try the RAI at some point then let me know. BTW – still interrested in HST adjuster by Steve/WWAG ?? I’d like to have one of those too and so does a friend of mine so we could do a humongous bulk order of three and split the postage-which is as much as the item itself.
Hey – I’m as cheap a Bastard as the next guy …

The “told ya so” feeling is coming through clearly, yes. ๐ But then you are happy and I am happy and all is well under the sun. :fishing:
Thing is, I don’t mind the old batch, the price more than made up for it and Alex is giving me the new aluminum valve pin free of charge. Plus it feels a bit special having 00036 as my serial number. My only problem is that accuracy is not yet what I need, but we’ll see how that turns out.
I don’t care where you buy what and since i don’t have any monetary interrest in Hannus business it doesn’t matter the least. It’s just that i told you to think about the eventual problems. We’ll see how it turns out though. Alex is selling very old batches of guns though so no wonder his prices are low. I myself would not accept an old model while there are several reversions available.
Well – as long as you get it working and shooting properly it really doesn’t matter what model it is but i can’t help the ” told ya so” feeling i get from all this… ๐

There shouldn’t be any frayed pieces from Patches stuck in the Crown. Maybe it’s like Coda said though and thus farther out on the side of the Crown and not touching Pellets passing thru. Test it.
I have, and I can only see markings from the rifling. But it’s hard to tell.
All this is the exact reason for why i told you not to get it from him. Just saying …. ๐
Like you said – if there is one. First I have to establish that there really is a problem. I’ve fixed the inconsistency which was a possible reason for the lack of accuracy and now I have to allow time for the rifle to break in before I can make a fair assessment.
I got a great deal from Alex, and so far it seems I’m getting great service too. Best of both worlds. ๐ I’m sorry if you wanted me to buy through you and your pal Hannu, but I went for the much better offer. Just wipe your tears and get over it, Ville my man, life goes on. ๐
Push a Pellet thru it and look after nicks and marks on the head and on skirt sides.

I’d tell Alex to send a new Barrel though instead than trying to fix a problem – if there is one – yourself.

Everyone should at least add their country to their Profiles in Location attribute so we can see if there is a geographical pattern to these issues? Right now it looks like Poland got all of the factory seconds but maybe it is more widespread.
Thanks for your answer. No rings inside my barrel. Bought my Cricket from Alex in Cyprus and it’s an early one.
Not necessarily. If there are burrs as you push a pellet out the barrel that is a different story. Take a picture inside your barrel. Do you have those same rings?

I’ve not been satisfied with the accuracy of my .177 Cricket Standard running at about 7 fpe (legal limit in Sweden). This evening I was lapping the barrel. After I was done cleaning I noticed micro fibers stuck at the crown from the pieces of cloth I’ve been pulling through the barrel. If the crown tears on the cloth it should tear on the pellets too, am I right?
What do you guys think about this?

Do you guys lube your pellets before shooting?
No, i don’t…
but which lube is okay for PCP rifles?
do you think lubing will effect the accuracy?
I showed our bench rest club gun smith your photos. He said it almost looks like it occurred before the hammer forging but he can’t be sure. They first drill a hole large enough for the mandrel and then insert it and put it in the HF machine. It takes about 3 minutes to forge the barrel. Then they withdraw the mandrel.
If the barrels shoot great then ignore it.
Question concerning the barrels with markings….

Didn’t they change something with the barrels ( maker, specs, something) after the first batch ?? There’s also an updated reg (added shimsin the stack) on the newer ones ( to my knowledge) and the numbered Gauge – although that Gauge is no big deal.
