Q:

pretty sure i am hitting the shroud!!!!!!

so i went to the 100 yard range last week and got a 6 in group, i choked it up to be the high winds and a dirty barrel so i cleaned the barrel and yes it was really dirty! 😯

but after that i brought it inside to my 15.5 yard range inside my house lol and i am getting 1 inch groups with 12 shots. smoe times they will hit the same hole but for the most part i am shooting 1 inch size grouns at almost 16 yds. these size groups have been consistant every time i shot this gun which is almost 350 rounds. and dont think that this is me because the same day i went to the 100 yard range shooting 6inch groups with the cricket i shot a 1 1/2 in group with my 10/22 with cheap bulk federal ammo.

i have been paying very close attention to these marks wiping them everytime i shot and they have always been there after shooting and now it looks like there might be a gauge developing.

how do i fix this??????? i am extremely frustrated with the accuracy of my gun. next time i am going to shoot with out the shroud and see how my accuracy is. i am also adjusting my scope alot because it seems like my POI is changing alot by about a 1/2 an inch here and there at 16 yards.

would lapping the barrel help center my shots in the shroud?

also i carefully check all of my pellets before loading them into my cricket.

Did you try and rotate shroud while make 3-5 shot groups and see if makes a difference?
Did you try different pellets?
Another thing I you might want to check is to see if you get consistent speeds. Good groups need to have the same speed or very close. 2 fps max to get any good groups at 100 yards. I wouldn’t jump into the 100 yard test just yet.

Today I went to the 100 yard range again and I am just slightly hitting my shroud still. So I shot with out it I got 3 groups of 2.5 inches 1 group was 12 shots another was just 5 and the first was like 2 mags lol. Also I got to use a chrony and adjust my HS which was good.

What do your groups look like at 50 yards?
I shot this 10 shot group at 55 yards the other day with no wind. I can only do this with one type of pellet

12 shots

and 16 or 17 shots cant remeber. :biggrinn:

It was also a little windy

Hello Chadwick,

I’d use a Dremel or a round file and take it to the spot area of clipping only.

Be careful of the first baffling in the front, very soft don’t poke it !!!

When there is no difference in the group size, your done and hopefully it didn’t take much in doing so.
To large of a hole enlargement will increase the muzzle report a bit.

If you desire a round hole I’d use a reamer.
It has a tendency to find it’s new center and round out that hole perfectly.
Use with lite pressure a bit at a time and check on its cut often.

Use a black permanent marker to color the cut.

If you’re going to shoot it without the shroud, remember to put on ear protection. Can sound like a real gun going off.

So out of a little frustration. I called AOA and asked if I could send my shroud only. Steve explained that they would need both because they were going to ream out the hole untill it stopped hitting. So I asked if I could do this and if it did not work if I could still send it to get fixed and steve gave me the go ahead! And it looks like it has worked! I still need to chech my POI with and without the shroud at 100 yards. And will get back with my results.

Thankyou everyone for all your help. Especially saltylick, and GKU. :biggrinn:

Dang Chad, sorry you are having to go thru this! I hope you have good service from AoA! With all the horror stories I’ve read about on the forums, ain’t no way I’d send that gun to them. I’d do one of 2 things, either just order a shroud/LDC combo from Donny or send it to Earnest for a tune up. Keep us posted. Maybe AoA will be wanting to up their game and PR and get you fixed up right away. If they do, be sure and post it up and give credit where credit is due.

Charlie

No big deal you could send it early AM overnight….hehe

Takes about a shade less than a month to get rifle sent out and for it to get fixed and come back. Could be less if your close to Arizona

Of cource percisions warranty department (AOA) wants the whole gun to make sure everything is lined up. Hopefully this is fast

I don’t think my accuracy is abnormal, look at this guy’s 100 yard group. Every airgun from Steyr to a Benjamin should be checked and tested by the retailer before shipping the gun.

This is 75 yards right out of the box, never even messed with the gun .25 cricket from WWAG

Now that is a shooter. I wouldn’t be talking to anyone if mine did that. Heck I couldn’t sleep for a week because of sheer delight
