Q:

R3 .30 caliber problem and fix

The Problem:
I first noticed after about 2K rounds my velocity dropped off. That can be common, sometimes the HST needs to be readjusted. So I screwed in the HST 1/4 turn and I was back at the 890 fps I was before. I was fine for about another 150 rounds until the real problem started. The gun started behaving erratic when trying to find zero on my target. I put the Matador on the chrony and I found a strange phenomenon. When the gun was full (220 BAR) no manner where the HST was set the most I could get out of the gun was 750 fps. As the pressure in the reservoir dropped the speed conversely would rise until below 150 bar the speed was at 912. I concluded that the valve must be stuck and the reason for the change in speed is that the valve gets more resistance from the air in the reservoir the higher the pressure. The valve must be allowed to move freely in the regulator. The belleville washers are clean, the O rings are perfect and the regulator is assembled correctly. What I found was the valve stem was slightly bent. I know this problem developed over time because the gun was super consistent when I was new. . The valve stem was not too long as it was in Ed’s factory specs. I straightened the valve stem reassembled the gun and I still had the same problem.

The fix:
what I found was the valve stem was slightly oversized and a little rough. Because the stem is steel and the valve stem housing is brass the valve was getting caught/sticking and in my opinion the valve couldn’t open enough. When the gun fell below the 150 pressure setting the valve didn’t have to work as hard to move forward when the hammer hit the stem. I polished the valve stem with 220/20/400/600/800/1200/2000 grit paper on a lathe until I could see my reflection in the valve stem. The valve moved like it was on ball bearings inside the housing. The regulator gave me 24 shots with the average at 880 and the ES at 2.6 fps.

I welcome any criticism you may have about my fix. It’s is possible that I just got lucky. Hell, it’s better to be lucky than good anyway.

Ok I didn’t want to make this to the public eye but I feel like I have to, for me and my other fellow airgunners that got a faulty gun, this is an email that I got from Tony today, I feel like I got kicked on the balls.

Hello,
Since the gun was purchased well over a year ago I can’t refund it.
You made it sound like it was a recent warranty-covered purchase I could not locate it because it was not recent.
So we have a few options here:return
– send the gun back to you at your expese (whatever return UPS would cost) without doing anything
– replace the valve with the recent production 2mm shaft (the shipment is on the way from Russia to me, would be about 10 days before it gets in). Charge for repairs and return
– replace the valve+brass insert with the future production valve (3mm shaft) I was told by Ed it’s in production but don’t have any ETAs yet. Charge for repairs and return
I don’t want just to sit on your gun without doing anything and leaving you without it.
Please choose the option.

Why I have to pay for repairs for a gun that never performed well since the beginning, I already spent $100 to send the gun back to him and now he wants me to pay for the return too!!!! Wtf!!!!
He keeps mentioning the warranty but I already told him I don’t want a Refund I want the gun to be fixed, that’s it!!!!!

ED CANT IGNORE THIS AS THIS PROBLEM WONT GO AWAY !!! BEING ONE OF THE TOP RUNNERS IN THE AIRGUN WORLD !!! IT CAN ONLY BE A POSITIVE THING NOW ED REALIZES THE ISSUE. MY .30 2ND GENERATION IS ONHOLD NOW !! IM WAITING FOR THE FIX ☺☺☺☺☺

Dan likes got nuthin to do with it. It was once written by John Adams that only 1/3 of the Colonialist supported the American Revolution. The other 2/3s were either kiss ass Tories or do nothing cowards that didn’t want to make waves. What I want is a Revolution. I am a discontent who wants change in the airgun business. I want customer support and service and I am willing to sacrifice to get it. I want change. I want airgun makers to fear it’s customers. The kind of fear that leads to respect. I don’t want makers to rush their products to us. I want EDgun to be the gun it should be because I love EDguns, not because I am a hater.

I want to be incorruptible like Robespierre before he began beheading people.

Hell KS I thought you liked the taste of Edgun? Your one of the main reasons I picked up my .30. Glad it wasn’t 2k though.

No need to bring dicks into this discussion although that is a great scene and I had to chuckle.

Yes I I got a pm from Ed
He is working on getting the material and will have a “solution in February”

Good to hear. I am sure he has a lot on his plate. Folks tend to get impatient when their 2K rifles don’t work as intended.

I trust he will come up with a solution.

Regards,

Dan

I’ve just had a message from ed saying the solution will be done for February ☺☺sounds positive !!!

as the edgun is an overall top competitor in the airgun world. I like to think ed is a perfectionist and would not let this be a problem persist ☺☺

Guys, you should be patient. I am sure that Ed will sort your problems out. Sometimes it takes some time to get a reply from him but once he is done with his journey he will be available to fix the problems. I know that it is crazy waiting like that but we are not children. Ed may be on vacations or something similar. The bad thing is that there is no a backup person behind him.

Ok,,, even i want to pay my payment for my last order,,,,he doesn’t reply to me,,,still i am waiting to confirm the amount then i will TRF the money to his account,,,he didn’t reply to me,,,

he may busy with something very big… otherwise at least mine is a payment not asking or bla bla bla,,,, why he is not replying??!!!

i guess he is producing the 9mm Edgun … or the semi-auto Edgun ,,,,or something else …. 💡

but,,,Ed must 1st fix these problems that you have,,,then step up the 2nd step …
Well at least he is answering your PM’s. He no longer answers mine. Not a big deal not like I was a good customer. I mean I only bought 4 EDguns. Man I feel like I’m turning into Pippo or Ville.

:hoot:

For that to happen, you need to be able to pull the skin around your neck up over your head…like foreskin!!!
I private messaged ed on Tuesday and he did reply in all fairness.
he said just keep shooting my gun and if any problems occur he will sort it.

Of corse he says just keep shooting it but how the fuck does that help those of us with broken guns? Would love to keep shooting it but it needs to be sorted out sooner than later and by him. Ya know they say there is no such thing as bad publicity but in his case i would have to disagree, if its not fixed and people end up sitting on 2K paperweights we are all going to be more than a little pissed. Man if my wife new this thing was not working after i saved and convinced her it was what i needed she might go pay Ed a visit after she killed me. :whoop:
