R3 .30 caliber problem and fix
The Problem:
I first noticed after about 2K rounds my velocity dropped off. That can be common, sometimes the HST needs to be readjusted. So I screwed in the HST 1/4 turn and I was back at the 890 fps I was before. I was fine for about another 150 rounds until the real problem started. The gun started behaving erratic when trying to find zero on my target. I put the Matador on the chrony and I found a strange phenomenon. When the gun was full (220 BAR) no manner where the HST was set the most I could get out of the gun was 750 fps. As the pressure in the reservoir dropped the speed conversely would rise until below 150 bar the speed was at 912. I concluded that the valve must be stuck and the reason for the change in speed is that the valve gets more resistance from the air in the reservoir the higher the pressure. The valve must be allowed to move freely in the regulator. The belleville washers are clean, the O rings are perfect and the regulator is assembled correctly. What I found was the valve stem was slightly bent. I know this problem developed over time because the gun was super consistent when I was new. . The valve stem was not too long as it was in Ed’s factory specs. I straightened the valve stem reassembled the gun and I still had the same problem.
The fix:
what I found was the valve stem was slightly oversized and a little rough. Because the stem is steel and the valve stem housing is brass the valve was getting caught/sticking and in my opinion the valve couldn’t open enough. When the gun fell below the 150 pressure setting the valve didn’t have to work as hard to move forward when the hammer hit the stem. I polished the valve stem with 220/20/400/600/800/1200/2000 grit paper on a lathe until I could see my reflection in the valve stem. The valve moved like it was on ball bearings inside the housing. The regulator gave me 24 shots with the average at 880 and the ES at 2.6 fps.
I welcome any criticism you may have about my fix. It’s is possible that I just got lucky. Hell, it’s better to be lucky than good anyway.

Shooter many of us did ask for a refund. With all do respect you’re talking out of your ass. Reval has a 2k dollar gun that doesn’t work since 2013. I don’t give a fuck about FX or HW. Do you want to know why I made a YouTube video about my R3 problems? It’s because no one would answer my problem. I would get a generic response “Change O rings” when I gave a very detailed description of my problem. I wonder how public Ed would have been had I not made this thread and video?
I don’t need anyone making excuses. I spent 2k and I wanted it fixed or a refund. My gun had been down for over a month and we are still talking about it. We should all be done kissing anyone’s ass. Wait a year plus get charged more than originally quoted and gun breaks after 1500 rounds and I’m supposed to applaud someone saying “sorry”?

I agree with your assessment. The Edguns are the original and the best of the best so expectations are high. However, mistakes are only human. How you react and deal with them is the key. Admitting the problem is the first step and he has done that. Its been belated but its been done.
Ed is many time zones away and logistics are not ideal when these types of things to happen. When they do they get amplified. It takes time to resolve, for sure, but there has to be process for this to take place. So here we are waiting on that to happen. It’s painful due to the investment involved.
As a result I have chosen to take my own path on getting this fixed and I hope it works. I think it will. Others may do the same or just wait and see.
I know Ed is passionate about his rifles (just watch his vids) and wants them to be the best. I don’t think he has given up on us but solutions take time….diagnose, make parts, test, confirm, ship and provide instructions, etc.
I am still an EDGUN fan. I own a Lelya too. No issues and working great.

No. I am just looking for a good alternative compact 30. Not too crazy about drilling on my working 30 cal so that it MAY make it more robust. We don’t know how this will really work out yet.
KalibrGun had a lot of problems with the barrels. I do not know if they are resolved yet.
My barrel was also damaged and I had to replace it with LW. I know many folks whose barrels were damaged in their Crickets.

If only he had done that with the Gen 1s. 😯 The line has been that the Gen 1’s don’t even have a problem which has only been true for a lucky few of us who did not break stems. Hence, there was a need for a Gen 2 with a more robust valve assembly redesign so they could crank them up higher without breaking stems and then yet another fail. The first R3Ms had quite a fail we all witnessed as well just sticking to the Matadors. Does the Cricket .35 have these issues? Not that KalibrGun has not had other QA problems (dead bird). What is the best smallest 30 cal alternative?

Noone mentioned that FX do not care about US market. Why?
I have never seen any manufacturer saying: ‘Sorry for that’, like Ed did in his post. Ed stands behind his product. You can discuss with him in public. Show me any other manufacturer with whom you can discuss like that.
Guys, you can return your .30s and receive your money back but you do not want to do that. Why? Because at the bottom of your heart you know that EDgun is the best in the PCP world in the activities it was designed for. Other manufacturers realized that bullpup market can be beneficial. But they’ve just started. Once they achieve current EDgun level, EDgun will achieve the level of perfection.
Please read my post carefully and please double think if you want to insult Ed more. I am not EDgun fanboy, Ed does not pay me anything, I am just a rationally thinking man and I do not like when one judges others blindly.

I guess Ed must have decided that the US market isn’t worth the hassle. I felt nervous having two of them and sold one.
There are no blow back issues with the newest generation Lelyas after loctiting the adjustment screw.
It is unfortunate but Edgun is on it’s way out in the USA. Loyal customers bought up all of Eds last shipment they waited a year or longer for and just as quickly put it up for sale on Yellow. Sad state of affairs that these guns missed the boat! This company Edgun had the airgun bull-pup world by the balls. That is no longer the case. No one will be lining up for Ed’s guns now. Not sure if they work or or not? Not sure if they fixed the past problems or not. Blow back issue with the Leyla never fixed? Valves of 30’s? Never fixed. No more long waits. I love my .25 Matador however I am no rush to purchase any other Edgun products after these debockles. I will wait to see before my purchases.

I can see that many of you refer to the price of the guns. Everyone thinks that they must work perfectly fine because they are expensive. As far as I know the prices are set by distributors. Ed does not dictate the prices. Ask Tony why that gun costed 2k$.
