Q:

Shooting Chrony lights, and no more incandescent bulbs

I just got online to order a light kit and found LED offerings from Shooting Chrony now too. I suppose this is in response to no more incandescent bulbs being made law ?? Has anyone tried the LED’s They are a lot more expensive, I could buy the old style for cheap at AD but not sure I can buy bulbs for them now let alone down the road.

Donny, obviously !! I named my shop after you !!!

Seriously though, I had a friend that ran a body shop called Dean’s and I dug it out of the trash when he closed the business and I always keep it around since I am Doug Doty, Kind of like the ” Laverne ” thing of past for the US guys ๐Ÿ˜€ He don’t know I got it, he’s a good but distant friend, I’ll show it to him once 2 or 3 decades pass is my plan ๐Ÿ˜€

i set mine up very much like this one

My work phone is a BB 9300 AT&T. I don’t really use it much.

That’s the way I feel about the iPhone.

Hope you have unlimited data, the iPhone uses over 10x the data of a BB. I used to use 1MB a month with lots of email and HUGE attachments and some web searches here and there. Got an iPhone and it used 100MB to do the same thing.

Things I wish the iPhone could do:

-Shut itself off and turn itself on (to preserve battery).
-Have a replaceable battery since it tends to wear out in less than a year.
-Have different alerts for each email account.
-Fetch email more quickly (my BB was instant regardless of which account).
-Present email more quickly, even on WiFi and a 50mb/s internet it would take forever to load an email, message would show in the list (only a sentence long message) but when i’d open the email it would take forever to load and then throw up an error).
-Play email and text sounds on the speaker with the headphones plugged in.
-Work in low coverage areas, the BB works in low coverage areas where the iPhone will not).
-Capitalize a letter when the key is pressed for more than a moment.
-A SD card slot so I can get some memory that the OS doesn’t consume…
-The ability to download an attachment to the phone through an email account, hook it up to a computer and transfer the attachment to the computer, good for field work when there is no unlocked wifi around.

My experience going from a 2006 BB to a 2012 iPhone: It was like going from an eight speed, paddle shifting race car to a three on the tree 1950’s pick up truck.

I think Apple computers are great, i’m a huge fan even though their progression to Intel chips cost me thousands in new programs and upgrades (I have a PC as well). The iPhone was insulting, lacking, seriously overpriced and downright stupid.

Oh and the 8GB of the un-expandable “storage” was consumed by nearly 50% by the operating system alone, or something called “other” that even Apple won’t say what it is (or doesn’t know).

The camera was awesome though, in contrast to the camera on my 2006 BB was absolute crap and I mean absolute crap. The original google maps was sweet, but of course they killed that with the upgrade. But I have a nice wide angle digital camera and one of those cheap iPods (shuffle) so the iPhone turned out to be a phone that hard a hard time doing things that older phones did without issues.

Kind of like a Chrony printer that drops the first shot and can’t count past 10. ๐Ÿ˜†

Oh yeah, this was a discussion about the Chrony…

I think your position above the sensors looks good btw, I tend to run a little closer to the sensors and with a little more distance from the muzzle. You could mount it on the tripod and overhang the front of the Chrony over the end of the bench…

Also, if you haven’t already you may want to diffuse the lenses on those lights if they are clear.

i have the master chrony as well that i use in my shop to tune my eddie ,but i use a piece of cardboard cut to fit in between the defusers to block light from above and a halogen drop light on the ground pointed up at an angle to illuminate the defusers and it has worked well for me.

That is what I was thinking, I’ll check to see if these little LED offer enough light to give that option, if not that will spell their demise and I’ll have to follow you all’s advice on just buying the real deal.

Hey Ride i found with the Chrony 90$ light set up it likes it directly over the sensors when I’m shooting low. but its not so picky as i elevate it.

quote bogman:

Ride, I’ve been eyeing the deluxe stable table for awhile. Be curious how you like it. Main concerns are if a guy a little over 6 foot can get in/out of it and if the table is big enough. Yeah, plywood could be added, but at 62 lbs., already… might start sinking in the dirt!

Here is what I done this morning, I wanted to sit directly over the trailing leg, and have a little more space on the table top as well as move the seat back for comfort, I got too much gut for the original top to set square and be comfortable and found myself twisting the table to get the best feel. So I made this top this morning, I went to Lowes, and bought a 24″x48″ ply with a birch veneer on both sides for $23 and I cut a 0″ to 4″ taper across the rear edge so it sits just right for me and points to the target in the opposite corner of my shop, then rounded the corners and mounted it 1″ further away from that little gut issue I had mentioned. I’m liking it a lot. I may trim the front off a little or not. I want the chrony to drop in an lock into position so either way it will get mounted down to another plate and I’ll dowel it into the front of the table to locate it for quick setup. Other than that I am going to draw some location circles for my front rest to also allow quick repeatable chrony setup. To answer your question yes your build is better for this table. it was too tall for me to use with my lead slead on it comfortably but I am going to look at working on lowering it too, through modification as this setup is dedicated, almost totally to where it sits and chrony testing and air gun work.

P.S. I am getting “0” failures with my $5.00 led light so far but feel the aim over the sensors is fussy. I am new to Chrony so does the window for non ERR increase as I shoot higher in the V window or is the good factory LED’s still the answer. I found the fussyness in set up and had no problem running strings but setup was touchy !!

Wow, I love I phones, I’ve never had one die yet, we got 3 in the family and it is the only phone that will last between contracts with my daughter. On the other hand this Chrony just about drove me to commit a violent act but I got it to settle down and got some short strings on the .22 and the .25 this evening. Both guns are untouched and as delivered. I gonna go back out and do the same with the 30.

I have an iphone that has a date with a pellet so I think we should set up some form of videocam to document it preferably with slowmo ๐Ÿ˜›
