To anyone that has a Jack Haley .257!!
What bullet molds are you using, if you’re casting your own? his specs are for 80-90 grains, but the only molds I’ve been able to find are for 50-55 grains, or a 64 grain mold. I need some guidance before I take the plunge on a Jack Haley rifle- Mind you, I don’t want to buy pre-cast bullets, I want to cast my own. My dad’s been clearing out the basement and found about 12-15 years worth of scrounged lead… so I’ve got some castin to do!!! 😈

My Haley 25 36 incher will open any valve at any pressure
And it will shoot groups that look like a single pellet strike at 285 yards, not to mention it will…..

Shoot flat for 400 yards and then start climbing. 😛

In the meantime my HPA powered Drozd Balckbird gets here tomorrow to take the edge off the wait.

LOL, all these replies are exactly why i said, it’s all speculation less Jack or John chimes in. or someone brave enough to dismantle their 257 haley.
And that news is exactly what i had heard. johns gun is a different gun all together. Who knows who put what internals in the gun or who modified it? Jack’s not gonna tell and i don’t blame him…….lol….lol!
But believe me, 900-950-975-1000-1050 fps would be hella good enough for me in that little bullet/gun.
VOLTAR, your probably right. And last i remember, i think Jack uses Chrome Moly and not any of the aluminum series. The tubes on my past 2 haleys were steel and not aluminum. I know nothing about burst pressure and even then, those numbers change with pitch of threads, depth of thread, number of threads, tubes wall thickness, alloy of tube, oring grooves….etc.etc..etc..etc..etc. None of that info is accessible to any of us. So i agree with you, i would like to start seeing more info from manufacturers an VESSEL BURST PRESSURES. But, maybe they don’t feel any of us should be concerned with that as the number is so high, none of use can reach it anyways in our guns. But i would like to see a FINITE number from someone like FX or Daystate saying, “fill your gun to 3200 psi for best POWER/ACCURACY/CONSISTENCY results but, the bottle pressure was tested to 26,000 psi during our testing so you’ve got nothing to worry about”……lol!
Okay, so his hammer/spring is strong enough to handle that kind of psi. So if that is the case that “Thor” hammer would be wasting air on each shot on lower fill pressures such as 3400 psi (the ideal pressure I would choose). Yeah, like you said, when you get yours I am confident we will discover more. I for one would like to see some chrony results on different fill pressures….

I think the answer is is comes from Jack being able to open at 4400 PSI, and you can also shoot as low as 3100.
Has anyone chimed in about not being able to open at 4400 PSI?
My Talon SSS can’t open at 4400, but it can at 3100, thus it can also at 2100 PSI.
You also need to realize the role of bullet weight in all this. You ideally want to use a lower fill with lighter bullets to keep them right at transsonnic and with heavier bullets use a higher fill.
But I will have a better idea in a week or so.
Or perhaps RJ can tell us the highest PSI his valve will open.

But think of it this way. Take your Condor 25 with the PW set to open the valve with a 3100 PSI fill, fill to 2000 PSI and shoot and chrony with Jerry slugs, then repeat for 2500 and then for 3100, again all with the same PW setting.
You get three different velocities don’t you.

I understand how the fill pressure will play on velocity…but with the example you offered if it was my .25 and I filled to 4400 psi…I would have valve lock for x amount of shots, wouldn’t I??? So if the answer is yes, what makes the JH .257 hammer/spring capable of opening a 4400 psi backed valve if it has no preload or stroke adjustments?

I can see how fill pressure would make a difference, but Jack made it sound like John’s is just the most powerful one he made, kind of like the one son out of the three sons that can pick both of his brothers over his head at the same time….
One thing I still can’t wrap my head around is how a non adjustable hammer (pre-load) can be set up to run from 3100 to say 3700 psi and still be able to open up a 4400 psi fill no problem. I can’t help but think that gun would have a different spring/hammer combo in lieu of any difference in the valve….I could be wrong (as I am most times) 😀

Jack does not fill to the level that John does, and in these guns that can make the difference.

While i can’t scientifically break it down as to an exact number, its a lot higher than what most compressors can pump the tube up to.
Now, there are different tube materials and many of us including me have visited their websites and read the numbers. 2024 T3 is a common and popular material. 6000-7000 series is popular too and there numbers go into the high tens of thousands to high 100 thousands of pressure. Chrome Moly is another material used. Machining threads and grooves in the airtube does take away some of the high burst strength and only the maker of said gun could answer that question. But the burst pressure of a common airtube is much much much higher than 4500 psi.
But i also have to say, i’m not a fan of filling that high for other reasons. I prefer 2000-3600 psi. When you start having to fill to 44-4500 psi, you gotta have either MORE SCBA tanks with you or you have to have more SCBA’s and a compressor with you on your outings….lol!
Tofaz, the pressure you are referring to is likely tensile or ultimate strength and is not the pressure rating of the tube.
I would love to see the specs for that pressure.

4500 psi sounds pretty robust, those reservoirs must weigh a ton.

I am getting the Drozd sometime today acording to UPS. I bought the “wild chip” and the fill nipple to simply plug into my 3′ line on my regulated Pygmy tank.
In theory that should give me a 45 second burst to deliver 900 BB’s at 550 FPS.
I am just going to install a laser on the top rail and call it good.
Sort of a nonlethal alternative for home intruders, altho after 900 BB’s penetrating a inch and a half on a yeggs thigh, you could throw the thug a knife and they would cut their own throats. 😈
