To anyone that has a Jack Haley .257!!
What bullet molds are you using, if you’re casting your own? his specs are for 80-90 grains, but the only molds I’ve been able to find are for 50-55 grains, or a 64 grain mold. I need some guidance before I take the plunge on a Jack Haley rifle- Mind you, I don’t want to buy pre-cast bullets, I want to cast my own. My dad’s been clearing out the basement and found about 12-15 years worth of scrounged lead… so I’ve got some castin to do!!! 😈

I have a 30″ .257 barrel on it’s way for a condor build. Is there any pointed molds out there? I have seen the 65 gr which come out 72 gr. Nice little slugs. Can’t wait. It’s going to be powered by my .308 valve so I’m hoping to see 1100+ fps
I ordered that RCBS 85 grain cowboy mold today. I was bidding on a Lyman 257312 on Ebay, but it went further than I wanted to pay for yet another gas checked mold.
I am hoping to get close to 1200 FPS with the 36 inch barrel and the 90+ bullets, then dial them down to just under transonnic for my elevation.
At 1200 FPS I could sight in for 90 yards with my Leupold VX111 LR/ Holland reticle and still have a direct hold on POI out to 260 yards without having to touch the scope elevvation dial. Now that would be a coyote calling air rifle.
I would like to get two molds that are the same weight, one a spitzer and one a roundnose or SWC so I can see if the statements I have heard that have been acredited to DR Franklin Mann regarding nose design not being a factor in subsonnic flight.

What’s your real point here? I’m lost by your comments. I’m not against the Corsair or any other airgun. So far, the Scandelous even beats my Rapid in the accuracy dept. See, that didn’t hurt now, did it? I’m just going by what has been posted. Am i wrong for saying that TIGHT groups are TIGHT groups? Should i be kissing someones ass that i don’t know about? Should i be lying about what i can see with my own eyes. I’M LOST!
And yeah, i know ALLLLLLL about the rulings on what a small bore is vs a big bore. I also know a bunch of guys let a small bore shoot in a big bore class and they now regret it. Again, just postin on what i read…….
Well all i can say is i got one badass smallbore with more power than alot of bigbores. Woohoo. Oh yeah and more accurate.
While my Corsair shoots decent, it has its days. And it has too many. That’s why they came out with a version 2. And on NONE of those days, has it shot tighter groups than what Jack and RJ have posted. RJ has posted groups hovering in the .5 MOA (or slightly bigger) at 100 yards. Jack posted a 300 yard, 3 shot group with the Hunters Supply 87 gr bullets that could be covered WAAAAAAAAAY too easily with a nickel. NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY, has posted a group by a airgun that far exceeds even a match grade PB shooting bench rest. Jacks group at 300 yards is just about unbelievable and that’s a compliment. I’ve NEVER said that about anyone elses groups cause NONE of them have been that unbelievable.
There is no argument and there is no better shooting BB gun so far than the Haley 257. And if anyone claims there is……………….POST A PIC, or, well, you know…………
So Marvin, nothing I say is suspicious. Just do the research yourself. The Corsair cannot compete with the 257 Scandalous nor can the XP from what I’ve ONLY SEEN POSTED! And not too may folks post groups but they sure talk about how small they are.

Cedric let me remind you as well that BB start at 30 caliber not .257 . It is what it is . A small bore . More than likely a accurate one but a small bore it is .Marvin

Yep I like to see pictures too, especially Hoot’s every now and then he’ll even show a Tick on his Nuts to prove it is acctually there;).
But being around a shooting range and hearing the one hole shots at 100 yards, and then see one inch groups from the supposedly one hole gun is two different things to look at,, It must be the weather, it must be the Molly, it must be the type of bullet I’m using today,,””HEY COME ON” You said one hole and brought your own ammo, so don’t say one thing and claim it on another!!.;)
I know air is different, it swells when its hot and retracts when it’s cold and air works on Cubic feet(In this caase) cubic Inches,.. So hot or cold the figure needs put together befor you load and shoot or even brag LOLOL;) I don’t set me scope unless I bump it and it shoots off.;) It stays where it is, and I use the correction factor for various temps..
My Powder burners is the same way, but not as critical as the air rifle,, My R-15 at 3200 FPS using a 55 grain bullet works just fine, it has a fast twist, and needs to shoot fast. My 7-MM mag is a little different so I load it different so is my 2506.
Now dont ask for pictures I’d rather buy bullets than another cam that I stupidily Broke, not watching what I was doing LOLOL..;)
All the Airguns mentioned above are hot rods and I can say that and believe that even without a picture, so XP, Haley QB, to mention a few, are all good,, Did I leave out Uncle Ed? Sorry Ed didn’t mean too,, I’d like to have an Ed Gun but My nerves want wait till it comes in ,, I’d walk off all this fat Ive encountered in the past 20 years and it wouldn’t be fair to me or my check book to waist that kind of money spent on camoflaudging these Love handles..
My Point? Just get the one that fits and feels good and go for it,, I got em all and Like my 5 String Banjos, I can’t put one over the other, they are all good, from my $800 hohner to my $8000 Stelling Red Fox Delux.. So there you have it LOLOL;)…….
Thats the problem. People just SAY there guns can shoot atleast moa but seldom do they post the pics. Cedric has all my pics of groups. If he wants he can post them for u all to see. If he dont post them i can. All my haleys shoot sub moa. I got the proof in pics. My 257gun shoots at 260fpea with the 87grn rcbs mold. I cast with the softest lead u can dind. Rhey drop out at 94grn . Ced can also vouch for the lead i use. Its the softest u can get. I also cast with wheel weight lead and my accuracy doesent change.

So yeah, here it is. Buy a Haley .257 as the accuracy has already shown to be damned good and better than ANY big bore out. Grab a slug or 2 and size your bore by slugging the bore. Then you can order your mold and sizing dies accordingly. There are lots of variables out there and you simply have to know what “YOUR” gun has in it. But accuracy so far outta 3 haley 257’s has proven to be unbelievable.
RJ Porter also shoots 1/2″-100 yard groups with the LYMAN 65 grain and RCBS 85 gr off the shelf molds. And that’s what i’m talkin bout……………….
Cedric I do not dought that the .257 can hold its own in accuracy . I know my JH 32 can hold its own now that I strighten out a few things . But for you to say that it is better than any other BB after what I have seen you post of your groups with your .308 Corsair and what Charlie has posted with his XP is well questionable . Marvin
Agree with ya RC. That’s the problem with mass produced stuff, its made in a hurry with very little confirmation as to its exact tolerances. My CUSTOM made LEE die was made with MORE accuracy tolerance wise than the off the shelf common stuff i bought in 308 and 309……….HMMMM?!.

Perhaps yours does Tof, mine does not. Which is why I prefer custom molds to off the shelf.
I have the same 257420, it drops them at .261 with 30-1.

jack also Swears by the HUNTERS SUPPLY 87 gr bullet which is pretty similar to the RCBS 85 gr bullet.
The 2 bullets are pretty close in looks with slight differences in the head shape and ogive and lube grooves. But those differences mean a LOT in the accuracy dept.
Here is the hunter supply bullet that closely resembles the RCBS 85 gr mold. This is the bullet Jacks family member shot the incredibly small 300 yard group with:

If you end up going with the LYMAN257420 mold which is the one that cast 65 (advertised) gr bullets, buy it from Mid South shooters. its 10 bucks CHEAPER than everyone else including midwayusa. Around 55 bucks at MSS and starting at 65 everywhere else.
And so there is no confusion, this mold drops at about .259 and i sized one batch to .258. Gonna test some at both dimensions for best accuracy. I really like these bullets.

YES Sir! There is a pointed slug for the 257. They come in at about 100 through 120 grains in .257 which is pretty heavy for caliber
The 257 is a tiny but long bullet for caliber almost like the .264″. I would NOT go POINTY but i would utilize the 65 and 85 grain bullet offerings unless you move to a FASTER twist than 1-14″.
Of course though, i’m sure you could custom make a 65-85 gr SPITZER from a reputable custom mold makers.
