To anyone that has a Jack Haley .257!!
What bullet molds are you using, if you’re casting your own? his specs are for 80-90 grains, but the only molds I’ve been able to find are for 50-55 grains, or a 64 grain mold. I need some guidance before I take the plunge on a Jack Haley rifle- Mind you, I don’t want to buy pre-cast bullets, I want to cast my own. My dad’s been clearing out the basement and found about 12-15 years worth of scrounged lead… so I’ve got some castin to do!!! 😈

If I had you skills I think I would look at a riser/spacer to get that barrel up off the air tube, then you could do a full length shroud.
Jack is inletting my stock this week, the rest is blued and done and it will go out in the next 10 days.
I have two molds, two different sizing dies and the Stoner muzzle break to put on the end of that 36 inch tube.
Then the Leupold V111 30 MM LR 4×14 with target knobs and the Holland reticle goes on top.
With a 90 yard zero, I will be able to shoot from the reticle out to 250 yards by holding right on the coresponding MOA mark and still only be 2.5 inches above the line of sight from 0 to 90.
This is in the same legue as the Cialis commercial about the erection lasting longer than 4 hours. 😛

DOGWOOD, pretty much every QB based gun on the market is SHAPED the same. I would be willing to bet my left and right nut that not very many different makers of big bores vary by a wide degree as far as clearances of the barrel to airtube are concerned.
I can upload a pic of my Corsair (which is QB based just like the DAQ, and the XP guns) and show you how minute the gap is.

Will give the LDC method a try first, see if I can quiet it down a bit without taking ti to stupid lengths (already a long gun)
failing that I might try and make a taller breach ( but not till I shoot the shit out of it)
I am going to keep watching as soon as someone makes one shrouded I will be putting an order in for one!
For my needs my newest toy ( MROD custom) will do what I need but ya can never really have enough power.
My next project is slugging my bbl and getting an LBT mold made for the Mrod
I talked with Veral and he says he can make e a slug in the 35-40 grain range that should work very well in my gun
I have an extended probe so He says it should engage the lands which is normally an issure with a transferport type gun.

Still not sure if anyone around here has shrouded or LDC’d one anyways. They are still relatively new on the market.
the barrel to air tube clearance is only like 1/8 or less so a full shroud would probably entail some serious work i would guess. A breech riser of some sort would have to be fabricated just like what most use on Crosman 2240 pistols when they wanna full shroud. or you could just REMAKE a taller breech to suite your clearance needs

I’m a firm believer in trying to learn from others mistakes, hence the question.
plus I’ll have expended most of my “mad” money on the rifle, the CFO would get a bit unhappy if I ran off and spent more on a LDC (material costs can be hidden to a degree 😎 )

has anyone tried shrouding one? would like to try and quiet it down a bit for backyard practice, plenty of room but we are in an area where I can’t shoot firearms and I would rather not have to keep explaining it to the local sheriff

My only desire to have a spitzer is to compare it to a same weight swc for trajectory at the same velocity to prove or disprove the theory that bullet nose shape has no influence on trajectory with subsonnic bullets.
I have no idea where to find a mid 80 grain spitzer mold however.
As far as hunting, I feel a subsonnic spitzer is beyond worthless.
I was shooting with Dave Gullo of Buffalo arms many years ago, I was new to the game and Dave was perhaps the most experienced and knowledgable BPCR shooter in the world at that time.
I proudly showed him my 45 2.1 rounds with a 485 grain 457658 spitzer, Dave told me that I would gain nothing from the spitzer design at subsonnic velocities and stated that Dr Franklin Mann had stated that subsonnic spitzer bullet designs offer no advatages.
On game I would only use swc designs having experienced first hand the difference between the goverment 457125 and a NEI SWC on elk.
The roundnose rounds showed no shock effects at all on the elk I shot, you could litterally eat the wound channel, the swc designs pole axed them and on field dressing the effects were similiar to a 300 mag with Nosler partitions.
