Q:

traxxas E-Revo 1:10 brushless

it arrived yesterday, i ordered it as soon as i had sold enough stuff…but it seems like they are in short supply most places, and where its available they want nearly 700 bucks for it….so i ended up canceling the truck at thebarnfloor.com who had it for 609….and went ebay for 660 with 8% bing cashback….making it 608 incl shipping

bought 4 packs of zippy 3S 25C 5000mah batteries and a 8 cell charger for lipo….charger can be programmed in tons of ways, and it does balance charging and all including temp probe

also ordered castle link which allows me to program the ESC, and theres a lot of stuff to change….like braking, acceleration curve, how much initial power it can draw and much more

anyhow the truck….well buggy….no truck…had it not been for the monster truck wheels i would call it a buggy with such a streamlined body and all

its all very nicely laid out…and came completely ready to run…i dropped 8AA into the transmitter, and loaded 2 lipos….and off i went driving a bit carefull….but its very hard not to try see what it can do.

before programming it….it was VERY agressive, launching wheelies as soon as you added more power, allmost hard to keep the front down….it has tons of body roll, and the gear train could sound nicer….but it all works….breakes was set at 50%, which is like a sloppy 1:8 nitro buggy brake, upped it to 75% which is enough to make a stoppie, so i lowered it to 70% which gives lots of breaking, but only does stoppies when max brakes are applied and surface allows it.

this truck should come with a center diff, why they dont dump that 25$ item in there from the start is a mystery to me….with all the wheelie power it would be nice with a centerdiff to transfer the power forward once the front lifts off

second i wish they had used bolts on some of the screws….they just thread into plastic, and is way easy to overtighten, even with great care taken…

third….i would have liked it as a kit….you learn so much from assembling it your self….not i have to guess what to take appart for access a certain part

i got center diff ordered, but it hasnt showed up yet….and i ordered a sway bar kit….this kit is a must ! it helps soooooo much

one tire has allready shredded 🙄 i hope some glue will hold it together so i can get a few more miles out of it

i put my old digital camera on it….it has a lens housing for extra lenses so i though that would protect it …and it did….but the ride was too rough i guess for it to keep recording…it kept ending up with format error….i really wish i had recorded there was some spetacular crashes 🙂

heres the little bit the camera managed to record

yay i finally won something at a good price on ebay

a new in box traxxas Bandit with 12t titan motor …73$ its the old version without the brushless velinion super duper fast system

came with 7c hump nimh pack…..i was looking at the losi mini desert buggy….cool little buggy for indoor driving…but it was so slow i returned it to the store no more than 2 hours buying it…..

the bad….well phillips screws all over….and some of them on the hinges has a tendency to unscrew them self

battery is nimh, with a max charge of 4 amps takes 45 minutes to charge….but they dont really like those fast charges….

limited runtime by the 3000 mah battery

the cool….allthough being rear wheel drive….its actually pretty cool on my little backyard track, it drives real nice

the 12T titan motor is somewhat weak compared to my other toys that are all brushless, it is very quiet compared…power is there, though torks are lagging a bit behind….about 35 mph when it gets up to speed…brakes are very mild….too mild for my taste…allmost non existing

i ordered a 8cell 5A nimh pack…..hope that will give a bit longer runtime, and more punch.

i dont know if theres some more agressive motors out there in the 540 size or is should just shell out 100 bucks and get a chinese brushless

all in all im surpriced of how much i like this little under dog, it drives real nice….of course you can feel the front being pushed by the rear so steering is quite different than my 4wd, which tends to be loose in the rear and and being pulled by the front wheel around the corner.

radio system is traxxas old 27 mhz system….buut who cares at 75 bucks i cant complain, it will be a nice guest car for visitors to drive….wife has seen the light with my losi crawler which now has 30 grams weight in each wheel after cutting the rims a bit on the lathe….what a difference it makes…now near 70-80 degree slopes can be concurred on my artificial carpet mountain

still cant wait to get the HPI sprint flux on the road, right now its just sitting there looking pretty, grrrrrrrr

my volt meter will just say 1 when there continuety…i will look it over again…theres 3 black wires going to the motor…

gyro IS cheating….but fun never the less its able to correctly countersteer faster than what a person can ….and by wanting to go in a straight line…it makes what ever its hooked up to run like its on rails….well a bit…on my vorza it just limited the steering so turns that before was sliding, it corrected so the rear stayed planted

but on my dirt track it sure did keep the buggy in line, bumps and stuff it doesnt care it just keeps correcting

i mounted the sprint 2 back in its display case….but who am i kidding i gotta get it out of there and look it over good…..waiting for the ESC is not so bad either as i have no batteries that fit in it….what i have is 25mm and max is 23mm i had hoped what i had would work….and the manual mentions nothing about it……so i ordered 3 lipos from hong kong 75 bucks shipped express….good deals !

Does your volt meter have a continuity tester?
If so test the red and black (or whatever they are) wires and if it makes a tone (continuity) then they are connected I believe…
I think this is how it works… If you have a spare motor give it a test for comparison…

A gyro for drifting… 😕 My rc education continues. 😀 Thanks. 😉

talked to HPI….quick to pick up the phone, and we both quickly got to the same result bad ESC….he asked me to test the motor wires that they are not soldered in such a way they touch….i got no idea how to do that …my volt meter gives a number no matter how i measure….maybe its ok as long as it not a real short, but just the resistance in the motor ?

on a funny note i could hear him swear in the background “that if he got one more call about a fried castle creations what ever, that he would quit”

esc got pulled and shipped to them….5 bucks with 100 bucks insurance…cheap and they should have it tomorrow USPS at its finests, probably gonna take several weeks to have it back though….

got some drifting tires….and gyro….so im ready to get drifting asap

I think you need to find out what kind of beer your local UPS driver drinks and get him to drop by just a little earlier… I have the same problem, end of the route…

Sorry to hear that…. man, that really sucks. I’m waiting on the mailman right now to bring me my new differentials. Stripped out both the front and rear out at the track last week. I know I should take it easy on those 15 foot jumps, but it’s just so much damn fun!!! 😈

fuck…..

car came today….of course ups desides to let me be the last on the route….fuckers…so 10 minutes after wife comes home…here comes box for daddy…..and question marks from wife …..arghhhh

ohh well wife was tired from work and didnt have the energy to bitch too much

swapped out the radio, to spektrum, and the deans connector to traxxas….battery doesnt fit…doesnt matter i just wanna hear it run

turn on…the castle series of tones play….then nothing….on and off again…ok steering works, so ESC is delivering power to reciever…i remember that i have to “zero” the ESC so turn off then on….trigger pulled….bleep….trigger pushed….bleeb…neutral bleep….puff and the smell of burn electronics fills the air…..

several on off…steering still works…but no power to the motor….gdamn it piece of shit..mother fucking crap….now its gotta be returned (shipped)…it had slight shipping damage in form of some scratches on the body, i didnt mind too much

yeah thats a beauty !

i was a bad boy today….craigslisted 4 civic tires and rims, and got a hit within 1 hour and 2 hours later they where picked up and gone….went to LHS and ordered a hpi sprint 2 flux, with the new mustang gtr body….they are good to me so they matched the site where i found it for 300…..for a total of 330 with tax….would have been 10 bucks cheaper on the net…..but since im in there all the time they usually treat me good…and this way wife dont know 😈

cant fucking wait to get it (they said 2-3 days)…and get drifting(yeah got the gyro for it too of ebay for 20 bucks)……wish someone made a 190mm 2006 civic SI body …it was either old style mustang, or a corvette….or the new mustang…new mustang looked the coolest imho…might got for a impreza body, or one of the super cars like the GT or saleen

it comes with a rebranded castle creation sidewinder ESC and 5700kv brushless…..max is 2S kind of puny for top speed, hope the 2S i got fit….and that the tires will drift

tried the gyro on my vorza…..it more or less took over the steering (think i mounted it wrong too)……at high speeds it definatly kept the rear in check….so much that there where not enough steering…..and it was impossible to slide it…it just kept wanting to go straight….might try mounting it different tomorrow….tires are definatly worn down to the point where it should drift nicely….my gear it lower to get more torque and more wheel spin

also build a mountain in the yard for crawling on….i hava an old piece of carpet that i use for a base for the inflatable swimming pool….threw some garden stones and stuff under it to make a mountain once covered with the carpet….had alot of fun with it….even got the wife to try it out…she used up more than half the battery… and wouldnt hand over the transmitter before she had climbed the steepest and most difficult angle….hehe…..now if i could just get her hooked on this hobby as well…. 🙂

😯 My goodness!

any ideas as to how to get better range with this sucker a spektrum 3300T

got aluminum rear hubs today

quite different from what the plastic versions are like….and 2 gram lighter

some say a mess,,,,i call it a challenge

got some cheapo tires off ebay 14 bucks for 4…..

the first and the last looks very promising for regular drive…..i tried the left to the middle today and holy crap i can mowe the lawn with them….in sand or gravel they performed very well too….nomally the small spiked tires struggle with grass….not the ones….in the park with semi high grass….it plowed right throug it with 48 mph pretty cool !

vey cool tmax there

agree on the mini revo that is one agressive car…even on two nimh batteries it will wheelie at 30 mph, bought one for a friends kid….ended up being his daddy driving it the most….he says the RPM arms are a super upgrade ! and its amazing how much punishment that sucker can take…and it is just so damn fast…people are reporting 70 mph !!! in a 1/16 thats unheard of for a stock car right out of the box …brushless rocks….i dont see nitro last very long….these brushless motors outperform in every way….and its all comming down in price !

i finally wore down the stock vorza tires….but today i got 4 new sets of el’cheapo 14$ for 4 complete tires….i bet they are chinese clones of something…they are 4 sets of different kind…the only kind i didnt get was the slicks as i allready have some roadgoing tires…

theres some big blocks….which are very big bocks !
some medium blosk that looks promesing
some with tiny nubs that looks like proline holeshot

cant wait to get to the park and try out the big blokcs they look like i could mowe the lawn with them 🙂

will snap some pics tomorrow

I knew I should have gotten in on this thread earlier. I’ve been doing both electric and Nitro R/C cars/truck for over 20 years now. I put the custom 1/8th scale T-Maxx I built a few years ago on the shelf and quit messing with R/C stuff while I concentrated on AG stuff. I finally broke down and got a 1/16th brushless E-Revo last september and have run it at least 4 out of every 7 days since. It’s nice to have something that’s cheap to fix and will still do 50mph and clear 12-15 foot jumps. Here’s a pic of my T-Maxx and 1/16th E-Revo. I run a 1550mah 3S lipo in it and that sucker will easily wheelie at 30 and pull a complete back flip from a standing start. Adding the beadlocks and re-gearing it for the larger tires helped a lot on the track, but lets to much air get underneath it at high speeds on the road. It is almost impossible to make a full speed run without the front end coming up at about 40.
