Q:

Wayne and DonG’s Big Adventure….

Waynejitsu had some work done by DonG on his Talon SS. He paid a lot of money for it and when he got his gun back it did not work. I took pity on him and offered to take a look at what was done.

So here we go.

When the gun arrived the first thing I noticed is the bolt and hammer were galling, Rubbing, against the frame. This created a lot of friction, in addition I noticed the bolt took a couple of pounds of pressure to slid on the barrel. All of this friction adds up is not good. It requires a lot more force to move these parts then necessary.

For example the bolt should move like glass on the barrel, not with significant friction. The body of the hammer should not contact the frame ever and should only ride on the delrin bushings.

The hammer is a total misguided mess. It is made of aluminum. The cuts are rough and inaccurate and to make it heavy enough the body was left thicker then it should be which causes friction. The stock hammer while not pretty is perfect for its job. It is heavy and thin and does not cause any problems. In this case the stock hammer should have remained.

The BOLT is an attempt of a knock off of bolts others have made in the past. A look at the workmanship shows some attempts at creating something nice but it has a few short falls. One thing is the hammer slap mod shows a lot of glue remnants and the Oring is coming out of the slot. The waist has 2 diameters which is a sign of careless workmanship. The orings are far to tight and require a significant amount of force to slide on the barrel. It should move smoothly with little force. There are many signs of wear and friction on the bolt and this is because aluminum “Galls” against aluminum and for this reason Airforce uses a Delrin bolt which does not gall or cause significant friction. The bolt is a mess and I reccomend a return to the stock Bolt as well as the stock hammer.

Now for the valve……WTF?

First thing I notice is there is no spanner holes or notches in the valve top under the top hat…curious. I take the valve off and this is what I found.

Now some might be getting all excited to see this thinking is is some kind of regulation device…WRONG….this is nothing more then a chamber which would hold the same PSI as the air in the tank. It would serve no purpose other then to decrease airflow to the valve. The threads are very rough and full of aluminum dust. The OD has a step in it and goes back to the quality of work. This is an ill conceived attempt at regualtion and goes to show how bad information really can make somebody have a bad day.

That’s all for now. Wayne my recommendation is to return to a stock hammer, stock delrin bolt and stock spring retainer bolt.

I will look further at it later.

If you’re talking about the cocking knob that screws into the breech cover, I need to find where I put it.

If I find it in my house, Wayne can have mine.

One thing is the Knob he made was too long so I had to turn now the top on the lathe to get it to installed on the stock bolt. I recommend you find a kind soul to give you a STOCK KNOB because the on Don made you is slightly bent from stricking the frame, which is normal, but not good for a small aluminum threaded rod.

Chris,

That would be great. Too many more shots and this aluminum one is gonzoed 🙄 Damn thing is sitting at an angle.

Sirhc888,
I appreciate the offer, but sawtime has sent one and I have it here and just need the one.
I really appreciate the offer, but have one now. I am sure there will be several needing one, dong was making them and selling them, I have a feeling they will be in demand if this one is any indication from what Adam has described.

It is such a shame to have the right machine to do quality work and eith do not care enough to do quality work or maybe just does not have what it takes to do quality work (talent and smarts), but glad there are those that have stepped in and stepped up to help out:)

THANKS GUYS!!!

Wayne,

I just went and filled my CF tank. I am going shooting this weekend and when I get back I will fill your tank and test it out.

That’s cool Adam. You’re a solid dude for helping Wayne out. It’s what this forum is about save for the occasional rotten no good piece of shit low life scumbag cheating lying sack of worm shit apple like Dong. Fuck him.

I had some time to work on Wayne’s Talon SS. He had parts from AF delivered to me.

First off Wayne IIRC you said you bought a “NEW” gun from DonG. This gun is a very old Talon SS. The way you can tell is the barrel has a DELRIN bushing and the barrel is only mounted with 2 set screws instead of 4 which has been the standard for several years. So if you paid for a “New Gun” you got ripped off and was given a OLD Talon SS.

I cleaned out the inside of the frame and replace the Hammer and the Bolt supplied by AF. I installed the barrel and check the safety and trigger. The trigger seems to be working fine for now. The set screw for the trigger is installed in the frame more forward then the standard method but all seems to work.

I installed my tank and shot a few shots and it work just fine and sounded normal. It sounded like a Talon SS.

I took your tank apart and it seemed that all it needed was a new spring retainer. I installed it but did not test it because I do not have enough air to fill your Talon Tank. I need the air for a trip this weekend.

So next week I will get your tank filled and try it out on your gun.

So currently what you have for all your money is a Talon SS that is probably 4 years old returned to stock configuration 😯

carma / Karma
yeah not known to be the best typist / speller here 😯 😯

I’ll fix that for ya

Do you mean “Karma” ❓ 😆

This should be a sticky post so all new members can be warned, not just about dong, but not to just send a gun or $$$ to just anyone that wants to call themselves a ‘tuner” and not to let anyone work on your gun without a proven track record.

I started to do a post a few days back, but never finished/ hit the back button.
Anyway, I dealt with Dong, everything was fine, great product, timely manner. Mind you we are talking 18-24 mos. ago.
The shroud I got from him is very nice, and effective.
However, the Dong obviously got too deep into the quicksand, and could not get out, he opted for the chicken shit route and disappeared.
I feel for the ones who got fucked, by all means.
I hope, they take action by banding together and perusing the matter.
As far as Mr. Dong, well the only way out is to step up to the plate and make things right, Fuckin asshole what are ya thinking, do not, I repeat do not fuck people over, carma.
I believe in karma, and your day will come.
Why don’t ya step up and tell us why you fucked so many honest people?
I actually referred you many times, dick wad, step up, let’s hear why you went sour, I for one wanna know.
Sharp28 you need to fix what you have done, I know you are in here, coward.
Step up to the plate and fix your wrong doings, if you don’t, well good luck my friend, cause in your grave when you meet your maker ya got some fuckin answering to do.

Enough said
