Q:

why attack the Mutant

I have been scratching my head for weeks now trying to understand why a small group of people attack the mutant. I understand that there is a lot of politics in the airgun business because the market share is small. I know that dealers and manufactures hire Spartans to invade forums and spread fear and discourse. AGN has become a cesspool of special interest pushing a gun. The Mutant is a fantastic gun. I don’t get paid to say so, I paid for my gun the same way all of you will. I never wanted my real name out not because I am hiding but because I wanted to stay anonymous. I wanted be able to call a dealer, get a gun, and review it without any special treatment or customized treatment that so often is the case with guns sent to “professional reviews”. When a gun goes wrong I’ll be the first person to call the problem out. Many of you remember me on the rampage about the Mutant short barrels and more recently about the EDgun .30. I love the honesty found here on this board. Tony has given us the freedom to speak the truth even if it may hurt a gun that he sells. I only stray from my original question slightly in order to illustrate a point; if you bullshit, lie or have a secret agenda over here on TAG you will be drawn and quartered by it’s residents. This is why the spartans stay away from this board, they would be crushed.

So back to the question at hand…why attack the Mutant? The price. I held the opinion that Steve from WWAG over priced the Mutant. I think he priced the Mutant at 1450 for several reasons. He wanted a dealer network, and he may have felt the need to protect the Cricket. I also knew that eventually someone would begin to sell Mutants for cheap. Let’s face it, labor cost are pretty low in the Ukraine. It’s hard for a socialist country with insane taxes and utility cost to compete with a small Ukrainian maker. So you are a large dealer, your main source of income comes from a country that pays through the roof labor cost and taxes. Suddenly a little gun that is efficient, accurate and quiet comes along and threatens sales of the more expensive guns. So you make sure that doesn’t happen.

Never forget the airgun holy trinity: Accurate, Reliable, Quiet. When a gun has all three of these characteristics you have a winner.

Wait so I’ve been telling you for weeks to get a Mutant and you went and got a Cricket carbine but when Ernest told you to get a Mutant you got one the same week? I give up! I am going join Leadbeater and post boobie pictures :darth-vader:

quote JoeRhea:

Darryl the internals look like the inside of a mechanical clock . No kidding !!! I love my Kalibrguns but they are crude compared to the Mutant .Ernest recommended one and I picked up one that same week . Great bullpup in every way . I need to strip and refinish it . Mine has a weird purple kinda color . looks like it was stained and grape juice got spilled on it 🙂 But it shoots so good I can’t bear to alter it just yet ..Maybe when my Carbine gets back from the Bullpup Tuner . No worries about quality …When you see it you will understand why we can’t figure out the hate against it ! It’s an incredible design

I just sold two awesome guns on yellow. Did I sell the mutant?

Vary few air guns don’t need tuning——I’m proud to say that the Mutant is one of them, so I converted to 50fpe .30 cal and still loving her!

So are the internals as corrupted looking as what’s seen in some videos? From what I’ve read here the gun is solid inside and out, but what’s your opinion on the matter?
Darryl

Ok I’m lost what you mean by “corrupted”

Maybe the wrong word, but the photos shown over on AGN (supplied by sniperqrty) show poor machining of some internals, and barrel threads damaged by a grub screw. I ca’t really say these pictures are from a Mutant because I don’t really know that. But these photos are suppose to represent poor workmanship. I don’t claim to believe it for one minute. I’ve only seen the internals in the video review Keyser posted, and your own of the trigger. So I figured you’d have an opinion on the quality of the machining of the Mutant. I’ve got my money down on one so the deed is done, but so I’m merely asking, though the point is now moot.

Would the stock on the standard drop into the shorty? It would only block the fill port correct? Or does the trigger assembly not match up as well? I only ask because the foregrip on the shorty looks a tad short. It would be better in my opinion if it was longer. Maybe an 0.5-1″ shorter than the reservoir.

I stated a lot of positive stuff about the mutant here–but ended in the middle of pages here and lucky if you have time to search the right word to find it.

Love the std and shortie but needed only one—shorter the better for me so I sold the STD —>miss that STD, Lee didn’t want to give it up.

Been working on all BP, to this day It has the best trigger and mag index system. The regulator has the best designed and easy to take apart, fit and finish of the machining is great tad better then the other BP. One of the quietest BP and action impact easy on your ear. The VS is easy to make but never seen one broken. Great safety lever even though I don’t use the safety.

Only issue for me is the stock finish and type of wood used, and the barrel for the shortie —- you know the story on that! That’s why I re-barreled mine to .20 and .30 cal.

The .30 is a shortie, if your going to buy one get the Std more quieter more shot count. Make sure you want it short the most before selecting the shortie.

Did I say I miss my STD:

Good stuff! I will be a Mutant owner sooner than later! Question is short or long? 😛

That Would Be Shorty or Std… they have not brought any long into the US yet

Darryl the Mans videos are hard to follow…. Not quite sure WTF he is talking about , He’s like 1 of 3 people to ever be banned from the TAG ( but they still let him back)….. maybe he should exert some of his energy into learning the english language.

Out of all the guns I’ve had, I enjoy shooting the mutant compact the most. Not necessarily this size. i am sure I would like the STD as well. But I have this little baby set at 660 fps shooting 15.9 gr JSB and super quiet yet hit sparrows out to 55 yds. Real joy to shoot, hardly any hammer slap at this speed and tons of shots per fill. I have my 4 inch LDC on it but really doesn’t need much at this speed. Still makes it quieter than without.

He Donny it seems you don’t need that dust collector. Why not gift it to me? I have a birthday coming up this month, and it sure would be nice to have a DD_LDC waiting for my Short to arrive!
Seriously, if you have yours plinking Sparrows at 55 yards I call that mighty fine shooting. As you atest, the lower the power the more quiet the gun. This I can get next to. I would not want my neighbors to zero in on the cause of Sparrows clogging their gutters! 😆

Guys, not all AGN people are haters. I post there and I don’t hate anyone here. 😉 Some of those children just need some adult supervision; trying to make their bones on the Mutant, and the Talon forums by drinking the (obvious) Kool Aid of misinformation, and viola! they believe it!. Very sad.

And who is this Asshole Tactical ? Every time I post something positive about the Mutant this Douche Eater has something negative to say . Man this Cat needs to get a life . We all have our favorites, and not so favorites. This guy seems he bent to trash this Brand . Ya gotta feel sorry for this dude … What do y’all think ? Tiny baby dick ? Mommy didn’t love him enough ? Chronic bedwetter ? Maybe he was raped by a Chezk bullpup ? Whatever his deal is he kinda sad if that’s all he has to do .
Attacking Brian and Ernest past the line . These guys help All of us learn about our guns . Tactical if you read this grow a pair and jump right in …The boys in the yard looking for new meat

Some guys have been calling out the Mutant haters over on AGN. I say ignore those haters. Fuggum if they can’t see when they’re being played. Not our job to raise them.
