XP airguns ranger 45 caliber 36inch barrel MONSTER !
I now have my new xp airguns ranger 45 caliber airgun , and i must say this is a MONSTER shooting gun . 😆 😆 😆 😆
So far i have tested out 454 round ball ,and 250 grain laser cast bullets .
during brake in so far the round ball is working better , dead on accurate shooting 3000 psi 1070 fps on low power , mid power 3800 psi 1150 fps working down 9 shots to 877 .
The laser cast 250 grain stuff , on mid power 987fps working down 9 shots to 720 ,
these numbers should improve by around 50 fps after break in according to Dan Mcvey .
this gun gets a lot of shots for a big bore , and with the long barrel the power stays up even at low pressures . 😉
some pics shooting this weekend.

I just got back last night, the bullets were here, I have not shot them yet, but it looks like you have a winner there. Fine job of casting also.
Thanks much, I will try them in the next couple of days.

Glad to hear you got those , i hope they work well in your gun, like they are in mine .
i have another bullet Charlie -the 255 grain Lee that seemed to shoot very well at 3000 psi low power , i just casted another 10-lbs today of the 255 grainers ,
i also took some harder foam board drilled a bunch of holes in it -to store the sized bullets when i travel so they do not dent up , i used another harbor freight case for this set up also , bauer cases gave this foam stuff at there factory, they are one of my clients , they make killer water proof gun cases that cost to much money ! 😆 i just might have to buy one for the ranger 😆

Butcher …..i just finished up that post with the info …. your timming is perfect 😆 😆 😆
Some questions: Range? Power level? Fill Pressure? Velocity?
OK i have some test results on the lee 255 grain flat nose , the 4 shots at the top circle , were shot 2 mil dots high centering on the circle in my scope , then after knowing where they were hitting the next 2 lower circles , i put the circle in-between the 1st mil dot and the second mil dot looking through my scope . i think my shooting was better on the lower hole , after warming up on the upper 2 circles .
now i kept the gun teathered up , and kept the air pressure right at 3000 psi on low power at just over 900 fps , for each shot , so i could get some consistant conditions for a good test of this bullet , distance was right at 50 yards , i think this bullet is a keeper at this point , these were sized to 452 .

OK i casted some lee 255 grain flat nose bullets -cross my fingers after 452-sizing these shoot good , so then we will have a good low-mid power rocket bullet , for the ranger 45.
i lined up the 255-348-416 g bullets

Just so you know . I keep the bullets that I cast in each session separate from the other casting sessions . That way if something has changed with the lead or the way I was casting that would alter the bullets accuracy I have it in one group .Not mixed through out several hundred bullets . Things happen trust me .I found out the hard way . Marvin
So the bhn7 is OK then ,
i just got the lee 255 grain flat nose mold in , the funny thing is -the first one they shipped out never showed up ,so they sent another one out , and now today both mold’s showed up 😆 😆 so i have 2 of the same molds now , i think i will cast some up , and see what happens
If you ship regular mail, it can take 10+days. I recently learned the hard way to ALWAYS ship priority mail if you want it to arrive in a timely manner.

Yes it would be better if I changed valves for these heavier bullets . And I always size to .452 for my rifle . Nothing wrong with bhn7 for sure . Pure is harder to get the mold to fill out all the way . And as fast as you are pushing them it helps from searing the lead . I noticed the engraving in your shot bullets and now knowing what the bhn of the bullets are . It goes along with what I have experienced as well .Marvin
Marvin ….. i thought it was /or close 2 pure lead, i have not tested the lead , i just know it is way softer than the laser cast bullets , they scratch real easy with just your finger nail , and it shoot’s real good , smash good on the impact , i pay $100 / $1.20 per lbs for 80 lbs shipped , so i can’t bitch to much 😆 😆 😆
good to hear you got those ,glad you like how they turned out, Charlie must have got his 2 i hope .
Marvin you should set your gun on high power set up -for those big dogs , you might want to size them 452 if your gun likes them that way also , i know it helped a lot on my gun ,on the casulls sizing them made the 3 shot groups a bit better , no flyers this time .
Dan I received the bullets today . And they are very nice . When I saw how the mold had filed out so well and the bullets were so crisp I decided to do a bhn test on them . They came out at 7 bhn . I though you had stated that you were casting pure lead ? And no my tester is not off . I retested the epug that Chris sent me and they were pure . And I tested my pure test bars again and they came out pure as well . Just wanted you to know so that if you change were you buy your lead from you would know what to ask for . Or may be I have made a mistake and you stated that you were using a alloy .Thanks again they are a nice looking bullet for sure .Marvin
Try and find some thick old phone books to saturate in buckets of water, using sticks every 80 pages or so to separate the pages to allow water thru . It takes a couple/few days to COMPLETELY saturate them to the point that they are not soaking-up any more water (that’s how you know they are ready). You will need to add water regularly, and they swell-up a whole lot) and see how many of those you can shoot thru, and what sort of channels/entry holes/exit holes your boolits produce as opposed to the channel the roundball produces. Place your shots carefully (right in front of the muzzle) so as to make the best use of the limited space you have to shoot. Shoot the largest meplat in the middle, first and make certain all the shots are straight/level thru the books.
Wood is an OK indicator of performance on bone I suppose….the saturated phone books are an OK indicator of what each design will do to the vital organs. Not ideal by any means, but better than nothing.
DUDE is that a BUTCHER bullet or what ! 😈 😯 😈 😆 BOOM ! ……………………..BAM ! 😆
The phone book , sounds like a interesting shoot /test .
Gotta love those meplats.

Here is a pic of the case / foam squares with bullets in them , they are stacked 3 deep in each tray , right a 150 bullets in each yellow tray /box.
