Q:

XP airguns ranger 45 caliber 36inch barrel MONSTER !

I now have my new xp airguns ranger 45 caliber airgun , and i must say this is a MONSTER shooting gun . 😆 😆 😆 😆

So far i have tested out 454 round ball ,and 250 grain laser cast bullets .

during brake in so far the round ball is working better , dead on accurate shooting 3000 psi 1070 fps on low power , mid power 3800 psi 1150 fps working down 9 shots to 877 .

The laser cast 250 grain stuff , on mid power 987fps working down 9 shots to 720 ,

these numbers should improve by around 50 fps after break in according to Dan Mcvey .

this gun gets a lot of shots for a big bore , and with the long barrel the power stays up even at low pressures . 😉

some pics shooting this weekend.

Lee makes a nice low cost bench mounted sizing press too. It works better than the hand press for some of the tougher sizes and also it’s just a lot more useable when casting and sizing by the thousands…

Beware of the Lee dies though and measure test slugs before going on for lots of rounds. I’ve had several custom size dies made and a number of them came in off by .001.

Jerry you are right , i ordered a Lee single stage bench press today for ,,,$25.00….on sale at midway

i also ordered a 452 sizer kit , i will messure the first bullets i size , even if they come out 453 my gun seems to shoot that size good also .

Dan,

You can usually get the hand press and the sizer die for under $50.00 from Midway. This is not a bench mounted press however, it is operated by two hands.

Dan,

What diameter do you want to size them too?

I have that portable Lee hand press and a 452 die if you want to try that. I am finding that on pure lead .4535 from the mold works the best in my rifle. So I will probably buy a 454 die in the future.

i just clean the barrel up real good , i got some pieces of lead out of it -fine shaving and stuff , tomorrow i will do some more testing , this time i am going to tether up to the tank , when i put that 3 shot string together using your bullets Charlie -where they touched each other i was tethered to a 44 cf tank keeping close to the same pressure .

i think i will use the 416’s then switch to the 348’s that i just casted ,and see what happens , i did that 2 weeks ago , with good result’s ,i figure you always will get a flyer every once in a while .

454 bullet wise is a bit big , i tried the pellet man bullets 454 they were a bit hard to get in , 453’s were not that bad -and they shot good the- 340’s

i might just take you up on giving the portable lee sizer a try , how much are those ?

tested the casulls a bit ,4000 psi first 3 shots grouped good 3 tight ones , then pressure was down a bit

these things hit like a frieght train ! screeming at well over 900 fps ! 😆

first shot went through 5 sheets of 3/4 in plywood then barried its self into the firewood half round behind the plywood sheets , it’s the one to the lower left of the dime in the pics

i was aiming at the lower bottom circle, the scope is zeroed for round ball 2600 psi , so i knew these were going to go high -3mil dots up it ended up on my scope , right to left was not to bad

these were not sized ,shot just how they came out of the mold , i need to get a press to size these up , to see if that helps a bit

these bullets will kill just about anything that roams the north american continent 😆

Thanks . Put a lid on top of your pot next time to retain the heat in the pot and you will be able to lower that temperature control back down .Marvin

Thanks guys , this is fun stuff , i wish i did not have to work today , so i could shoot some of these up , maybe after work 😆 😆 if i get back sooon enough , dying to see what that casull does for sure ! 😈

BIG hole! lol
Really nice job on the bullets I cannot imagine you could buy nicer looking bullets. I would not want to be on the recieving end of those “PELLETS”

ohhh heall yeah, that casull slug looks bad ass and i love the weight of it. Just like RC’s big slugs, i bet everything in the bank those casulls are gonna be 1 holers.

Nice looking slugs! That Casull slug looks like a hard-hitter for sure…..can’t wait to see how it shoos.

It will be intereting to see how fast they fly and how well they shoot, nice looking bullets.

Those are some awful pretty slugs for somebody new to casting Dan. 🙂

Thanks man ! 😆 , i really like this casting stuff , i have welded a lot and built a lot of stuff out of metal / race cars /trailers , so this stuff falls right in line with the other things i have done in the past , the biggest thing is figuring out the correct temp , for what you are casting , these bullets i had the pot almost all the way up on temp or the dial number on the pot should i say , it’s funny if they are to cold they wrinkle a bit , to hot they get frosted ,

it sure takes a lot of lead to make these bigger bullets 10lbs bar plus a little that was left in the pot to make this batch up , the funny thing was using the channel locks system that i came up with slowed me down just enough, i think to where it kept the mold at a good temp -not to hot/ not to cold ,

i just had to get some bullets made to test , especially that casull to see what it will do 😆 cross my fingers ! 😆

this is to cool this mold came in this fast 😆 😆 😆 big BULLETS ! 😈 😆
