Q:

Best Ammo Choice For .25 AAA Condor

I would like to know what is the the best ammo to run through one of these guns to get max distance and energy when it hits. I’m wanting to shoot for consistence at 100 yards with some knock down force still. If i could get a few different makers and what grain size you would go with to achieve all this please let me know thanks.

Well I recently had to shim the scope because I had noticed a gap between the ring and it’s carriage. I tightened it then had to shim to get back to elevation. I did turn the knob to it’s extreme but did not force it by any means. It’s a hawk sidewinder 30 8-32 x56.

If the scope is out of alignment enough that you have to use an extreme windage or elevation, it’s possible that one adjustment will affect the other. This is usually not a problem for the best scopes and scopes that are mounted true but it does happen. The worst part is that when you get to extreme adjustments, it is very easy to do irreversible damage to some of the budget scopes. Yeah, been there…

What is your scope?

Turns out I’m having a scope issue. I decided to shoot some kings and benji’s today since I needed to boost my own accuracy ego. I found out that it is at minimum out of align with the barrel. I’m going to fix that but while adjusting windage it seemed to effect elevation. I don’t know if that makes sense to anyone but it’s highly suspect to some of my problems in my eyes.

Yes, that was a good deal, I will keep the ones that shoot the best and sell the rest to afford more.

Well good luck RC. I guess you got the email through and jumped on the 2/3’s off deal!

I hope the slugs find a good match with your gun. Thenoid has found at least one combination of hold and velocity that seems to me to be working pretty well. 3 on hole groups in a row at 30 ought to translate to under an inch at 50 I suppose.

The funny thing is that 1 inch at 50 yards was what we set as success criteria back when designing these slugs. Well, I didn’t design shit, Gary Barnes did all the design and mold and die work! We just agreed that a good solid slug for transfering max power for hunting would be a success if it could hold an inch group at 50.

When we did the initial testing, we were delighted as the slug would one hole at 50 often and under an inch was pretty darn easy. Of course, that was with a choke free, Barnes barrel that might just get a wee bit more attention in production than a commercial barrel.

Fortunately, we had great success with the field testers and a bunch of customers since. Hopefully, you’re the next guy getting great groups!

Yeah RC they where way more accurate than EJ’s at least from my gun! I think the change in and/or introduction of kick is what hurts accuracy the most.

Got any accuracy pics?

Sorry just go my new tank to this setup this past weekend. I will. Shit before I even tuned I was getting 1.5″ groups at 50 yards with 6 rings. Now that I have learned the way of the dark side went 7 rings. Only time I have issues is if I rip to much lead off putting them in the barrel and they slide around. I have verified up to 100fps less with those shots though. Same as most loose fitting pellets.

Well I am finially going to try the Jerry’s slugs.

I got my 25 barrel for power, and it has been frustrating that all I can get out of it and good accuracy has been with the 25.4 grain Kings at 50 FPE, granted they are in the teens at 30 yards, 1/2 inch at 50 and I have gotten 100 yard groups as small as .75.

But I got that with the 22 also at the same power level.

I have a new spring/hammer/valve set up in my Airarcher that gives me 100 FPS more than I used to get with it, or 500 FPS instead of 400FPS, a stock Condor firing system gives me in the 330 FPS range. In my old crosbow target it either strips the fletching off the arrows or makes it practically impossible to remove them

I have a dupicate of that Airarcher system coming, and I have altered my 25 Condor frame so that I can loosen two set screws from the side, remove the Short canted ETAC and collar and then the breech and the entire firing mechanism to change components in the system, without disturbing the barrel and scope and of course zero..

I need an inch at 50 yards to do what I want with Jerry’s slugs, hopefully I can get that and be well into the 100+FPE range. I was hitting at 950 FPS with 43 grain EJ’s and the Condor firing mechanism, but was not under and inch at even 30 yards.

But EJ’s are shit compared to Kings and Jerry’s slugs.

So, with this new firing mechanism giving me 25% more velocity in some applications. I should finially be getting some great power out of this rifle.

Got any accuracy pics?

I have a 18″ barrel and the highest speed (780 fps ish) I’ve gotten I went 3200 to get good shot count. Right now I can get 10 shots 760-780-740 ish and psi 3200 to 2600. I have a 85 gram hammer and everything else is stock. Actually no, I widened the holes a little on the valve stem and polished the valve internals. This is with 7 rings. Man the shoebox rocks!!!!!

Jerry,

Thanks for all your advice. I know you are producing a good product and the consistency will come with practice. Part of the inconsisencies were compounded by distractions and frustration. Today it rained most of the day hear so i shot through my bedroom window. When my tank ran down to 2300psi i shot some benji domes and it proved to have a totally different reaction when firing. I don’t have a lot of years at this but I am sure I’m going to.

The next time I order I will stick to one size.

I’m sure the fine tuning can get to a point where it appears never ending! If I look at your last three groups though, I see each of them is one hole and if you had shot all three groups into one target, you would have had one bigger hole. And, the size of the hole would be far smaller than the kill zone of anything you’re going to shoot with that gun!

Rather than spending the time on another spring, at this point, I’d start shooting at different ranges to get a feel for aimpoint corrections based on range and wind.

When you shoot 3 one hole groups in a row, it is not coincidence, it is a good slug and gun combination. Now, it’s time to dial in 3/8″ up and a couple clicks left for a solid 30 yard zero. If you have Chairgun, you can calculate a bunch of stuff like the other zero point but I’ll guess that you’ll be at zero again around 55 yards.

I’ll ask Tony about hammers and springs that I could put in specific for this ammo. It doesn’t take to much effort to swap components in these rifles for different conditions. Ultimately another rifle would be ideal, but my wife doesn’t even understand why I had to move up from my 12 year old wally world winchester break barrel. It is still a good shooter.

Hey, it just occured to me (doh!) that I recommended a higher pressure when you are running the max recommended for your gun.

So, ignore my last.
