Q:

Finally getting a .257 build started!

I contacted R&L and Mike at citrusairguns about barrels hammers and springs for the 257. Both can get me close to what I want. Has anyone dealt with either before? Is there anyone else that will machine the parts I need?

Has all the info you need. Dyotat100 is Machining God you need to talk to. Hope this helps.

Hey guys I have 8 pcp’s and 2 more on the way butt…. I think its time to move on up to the 257! 😈 starting from scratch so I will need lots of help. :3: would prefer to just pay someone to build one right the first time Vs. me fugging everything up. 😳
So if you guys know of anyone please let me know. If not, like I said I’m starting from scratch and the first thing I would need to know is which .25 condor is best for the build, the SS or the older model? Also, from reading it appears that the T,J barrals are pretty good. If I cannot find anyone to build the 257 I will be relying on you guys heavily in purchasing the items I would need for the build. PS, would like to hunt small to medium game up to 150-200 yards. 8 or more shots would be great. Not sure what grain bullet to use for this set up. Experds needed, please help 💡

Oh shit! Your cracking me UP!!!

Hope you have a VERY Good Neighbor! 😯

All you need is a few inches down the tube before you drive it back out. 10-12″ should be plenty, unless the barrel narrows near the muzzle, that should give a good size.

I’m almost 100% its the threads Doug. Ill send you a pic tomorrow. Thanks Knife I already shot threw my target threw the fence and into the neighbors shed trying to get it close to the end of barrel. Every time I try to get it started it only goes maybe 4-6 inches. I tried using a wooden dowel rod and it keeps breaking trying to get bullet rest of the way. Tomorrow I might try shooting it into something soft or maybe a swimming pool? How fast does a bullet slow down in the water? I could shoot it at 1000psi on 0 powerwheel. I have a 10 foot pool. Sounds crazy but might work.

Ray, being my usual lazy self, I cheated! I didn’t want the bullet deformed any more than necessary,, so here is what I did. Might not work for anyone else though.

I put several “O” rings behind my top hat, to give it very little give. I then ran the power wheel all the way down to zero. And put a bullet in the bbl and fired it. It took several tries to get the bullet to go a ways up the barrel and then lodge in it about halfway down the bore.

I then removed the Valve Stem so that I wouldn’t shoot my self in the gut, LOL!!!, and lightly taped the end of the cleaning rod handle. (Placed in the muzzle) I did this until the bullet fell out into the breach. It just seemed like it was easier on the bullet than pounding it in and out with a mallet.

This is just one more time it pays to be able to really adjust the power in a way that would be almost impossible with a PB. LOL

Doing it this way, the bullet wasn’t upset into the rifling as it would be if hammered in. A PB has the psi to upset a bullet into the rifling. Where an AG does not. I wanted the bullet to conform to the rifling just as it would if fired by air. Or as close to it as possible.
The results were VERY consistent doing it this way. More so than when I did the typical hammering through the barrel. As the bullet was far too oversized for the bore, and hence the need for slugging before having a die made, it simply could NOT just be pushed through the barrel. I also did not want the rod flexing inside the barrel and possibly damaging the rifling.

Tapping the bullet back out was however rather easy, as the barrel had already properly sized the bullet to a much smaller size. 😉 :8:

Is it the threads or is the TH getting compressed. I will make one that will work on it.

How do I get a slug threw the barrel to have it sized for a die? My press, scope, scope mount and wokguard came in this week. The only problem is my fill adapter wont work on the Dyotat valve which blows. So I cant use my 4500 psi tank yet. He already warned me before it might not. I also ordered super sear and took out the safety. Thanks for all info. Raymond

Yes I did. Good looking Shroud!

Oh heck yeah, I am very interested in seeing your updates and we expect numerous reports on the performance and adventures of this gun!
I would expect that this should be a very decent build. I have a feeling that Mike Kobel probably does some real decent airgunsmithing. I havent heard anything bad coming out of his shop. But don’t know anyone that owns his stuff either. He seems to represent himself very well, with a good professional appearance on the web. His website gains my trust in his abilities. Hearing your positive experience with his great communication with the regular phone calls and personal service doesnt go unoticed. I am eager to hear how well this gun shoots and holds together!
1/2 ” @ 70 right outta the box , with unsized slugs? Oh hell yeah sounds like you got a great intiation into the .257 club congrats! Nicely done,,,,, lots of pictures on the required future reports!
I am very curious about Citrus Air because he isnt so much a Airforce Tuner as he is a Maruader mechanic . I am interested in seeing what he is doing with bullets in that gun.I doubted it much possi le but I hear that he does it…

That’s what I’m talking about!!! 😀
Sweet!!! :8: You’re gonna get spoiled with the .257. It a whole other world.
