I’m Stepping Away from BullPups !
I love the concept of the gun, great for packing and carrying on a single point sling.
I’ve owned, hunted, shot several pups in the past few years, and tested, shot, handled a few more.
I’ve come to the conclusion the the Pup isn’t for me, reason why ?
…..scope height, the bullpup design just don’t aloud you to get the scope as close to the bore as a rifle does, and in my type of hunting where shot distance is always an unknown and there’s not much time to play with mildots the excessive height of the scope is detrimental.
In the end I can achieve the same degree of packability with a folding or detachable stock rifle, and a carbine is just as comfortable in a single point sling.
so in the future I’ll concentrate on carbines with either a detachable or folding stock for tough hunts and the normal wood stock rifles for blind/hide hunts.
Guess my next project will be to make one of the said stocks for my MAX-ML .45 bull pup ;D ;D ;D

Nomadic Pirate, are these scope heights AND corresponding cheek welds not achievable in Bullpup configs?
I only have two rifles, both stocks I designed and made myself, I believe, if scope height is an issue alone, that is very possible in a bullpup dimensions.

Hey, and what an adventure this has been that ENDED with introducing us to a great new folding stock.
Seems like any perceived short comings of the bull pup style are inconsequential now. Besides solutions for bullpup close range targeting very easily resolved. :8:

manny , the folding stock looks great , if you only need one and can use it on all of your adjusted stocks for all of your rifles then be happy
and go for it . No one else is with you while hunting and no one else is pulling the trigger except you . Do for yourself which makes you as
the shooter more relaxed and fell more positive in your hunts . However , at least once try hunting with a spear , you certainly have the skill
for it . Many hunters really do not know how dangerous it is to be able to get within 15 yds. of a wild hog . A wild hog can maim or kill you in
a heart beat . Once in the jungles of Nam I had a 300 Lb. wild boar while on patrol looking for Victor Charlie came out of no where and scared
the death out of all of us . I being the M-60 gunner at that time on the patrol shot that wild pig at least 30 times with armor piercing ammo while
on full auto within 15 yds. of me . I really fucked it up and killed it before anyone could get hurt . All the rounds went completely through that
pig and the tusks on it could have done a number on any of us if given the chance . It was the only wild pig that I have ever killed in my life and
the best pig I have ever eaten in my life .

Ever since I made this Stock for my Carbines I’ve seen the light :biggrinn: :biggrinn: :biggrinn:
I collect laser and have used them from preventing me from shooting out my crony, to making jigs to finding optical center of my scopes, etc ….. all in all a great tool !
Most of my scopes that I have focus down to only 10 yards and just one that goes down to 5 yards.
The lasers are a great tool for that up close and personal follow up shot down from 10 yards with a rifle or a BP.
At that close of a range you don’t need to even be looking thought the scope.
Here are some green ones I bought recently. The greens are very visible in the day compared to the reds IMO.
This one lights up your entire field of view though your scope at night, great for ratting also.
If you like it real low I don’t think there is one that’s lower then this one, mounted upside down ?

Anyway, I’m already in contact for trading my last remaining BullPup for carbines with a couple of guys, lets see what I’ll be ending up with :biggrinn:
And I have one more spare stock I’ll be starting to mod into a Folding stock soon,…..great thing about my Pack of Hunters is that I can swap stocks regardless of caliber, so once I decide the gun I’m taking hunting I can just slap on one of my lightweight folding stock and I’m good to go :biggrinn: :biggrinn:

That might actually fit in between the scope mounts on my Viking. How high is the laser from the rail surface, i.e. would the beam go over a picatinny scope mount?

Manny you can subtract MOA with a shim made of film or an aluminum you don’t need an expensive mount. For me it’s not a problem, like a carpenter knows his saw I too know my tool. This ‘problem” you’re having could happen on any gun, carbine, rifle or bullpup to anyone. Depending on the person they may need a higher mount on gun for their eye relief. Some carbines require high mounts to clear the magazine. So understanding MOA, bore axis and scope height are all part of being a good rifleman.
I honestly give zero fucks what kind of gun your using. The issues you were having with pups was a easy fix. A offset mount and a crossbow red dot sight ( which have three aiming points ) and some range time should solved your problems. No need to get puffy :biggrinn:
Your right about me not being in hunting situations that you’ve been in…………………………………………………. I never hunted game rooster in the Hawaii jungle before :fishinghole:
Or just aim that 1″ high at 10 yards, it’s really not that hard to judge an inch when you know the size of your target. I shoot vermins all the time around 10 yards with my pup that’s zeroed at 20 yards and I never bother with mildots at short range.
If or when you do get another pup, put a offset on it and then tell us what you think 😉

All you guys posting about this -20 MOA thingy ? …right there you are acknowledging the fact the the High scope on BullPups IS indeed a problem and you need to go out and buy an expensive piece of equipment to correct it.
Now tell me, why should I go out and buy said piece ? ….when I can just put my 11 bucks Leapers scopes on my Carbine and be already dead on ?

need to do is have the hunting skills to get in close which you seem to have . It work for hundred of years before any kind of gun was ever
designed . Who knows once you have tried it , maybe it will become a passion to be able to kill a wild pig at such a close range . Like a
Gladiator in a one on one fight to the death were only the best survives .

The Eastern Europeans did great by having the magazine breeching the pellet from the top and that brings the barrel a little bit further up but there’s no escaping the fact you still need to use the action as your cheek weld and that is the limiting factor on how low you can get your eye.
So, the Eastern European Pups have a bit an advantage, but for my applications those Pups don’t really reach the required specs so I’ve never considered them and I’m not in the market for one.
