Q:

traxxas E-Revo 1:10 brushless

it arrived yesterday, i ordered it as soon as i had sold enough stuff…but it seems like they are in short supply most places, and where its available they want nearly 700 bucks for it….so i ended up canceling the truck at thebarnfloor.com who had it for 609….and went ebay for 660 with 8% bing cashback….making it 608 incl shipping

bought 4 packs of zippy 3S 25C 5000mah batteries and a 8 cell charger for lipo….charger can be programmed in tons of ways, and it does balance charging and all including temp probe

also ordered castle link which allows me to program the ESC, and theres a lot of stuff to change….like braking, acceleration curve, how much initial power it can draw and much more

anyhow the truck….well buggy….no truck…had it not been for the monster truck wheels i would call it a buggy with such a streamlined body and all

its all very nicely laid out…and came completely ready to run…i dropped 8AA into the transmitter, and loaded 2 lipos….and off i went driving a bit carefull….but its very hard not to try see what it can do.

before programming it….it was VERY agressive, launching wheelies as soon as you added more power, allmost hard to keep the front down….it has tons of body roll, and the gear train could sound nicer….but it all works….breakes was set at 50%, which is like a sloppy 1:8 nitro buggy brake, upped it to 75% which is enough to make a stoppie, so i lowered it to 70% which gives lots of breaking, but only does stoppies when max brakes are applied and surface allows it.

this truck should come with a center diff, why they dont dump that 25$ item in there from the start is a mystery to me….with all the wheelie power it would be nice with a centerdiff to transfer the power forward once the front lifts off

second i wish they had used bolts on some of the screws….they just thread into plastic, and is way easy to overtighten, even with great care taken…

third….i would have liked it as a kit….you learn so much from assembling it your self….not i have to guess what to take appart for access a certain part

i got center diff ordered, but it hasnt showed up yet….and i ordered a sway bar kit….this kit is a must ! it helps soooooo much

one tire has allready shredded 🙄 i hope some glue will hold it together so i can get a few more miles out of it

i put my old digital camera on it….it has a lens housing for extra lenses so i though that would protect it …and it did….but the ride was too rough i guess for it to keep recording…it kept ending up with format error….i really wish i had recorded there was some spetacular crashes 🙂

heres the little bit the camera managed to record

another little video

got tired of shoveling dirt….so decided to have a bit of fun with it

collection was missing a shortcourse truck…..so i just had to have it

it is actually very fast, an agile…..tires could be better…..came with quick charger and all…..complete ready to run….even with 16 AA….so unlike other ready to run kits that require batteries this one has it all

well, the included 7 cell 3000mah…and titan motor was too boring….8 cell 5000 mah didnt help much

i was recommended an ezrun combo B4 65A ESC and 6000KV brushless motor….

motor fits right into the place that the titan used….no problems there….motor wires got a connector each so i can detatch motor without unsoldering, using some tunigy 6mm connectors taken from some lipo cells that i put deans on….

any how a lot of soldering later (im not very good at it) it took me about 2 hours to install the kit….and took it for a spin…..results was mixed i ran it on the 7 cell nimh that came with the car…..i expected wheelie power…and it did lift the front once, but the battery just wasnt up to the job of feeding the power hungry motor….and ezrun says no more than 6 cells without upgrading to the 12v fan i ran 7 anyway …..but i dont dare test my 8 cell nimh

none of my 2S lipo fit the battery tray…so i did what had to be done….under the ESC place is a wall…which the dremel grinded away…now the lipo fit…i testes tork twisting etc and could not feel any difference with or with out the wall….but now my hardpack 5200mah 30C 2S fit perfectly

so here is a picture of the missing wall

do not mount the motor so the where the print board sticks out can get in contact with the ground ! it made some nice sparks

rotated the motor so the print is safe as can be

result…a bandit that is absolute bonkers on 2S….it will wheelie at will no matter speed…..once it gets going fast enough the front starts lifting….it is so much more lively now that its crazy….i havent had a gps on it yet cause im afraid of crashing and messing up the gps….but it seems as fast as my vorza…so around 50-60 mph ! in other words twice as fast as before….

steering is next to none at those speed runs….front wheel just dont have the grip needed to steer

now i wonder if the original ESC and titan motor would have benefittet from a lipo battery….cause difference is night and day with this new system…nimh lacluster performance….lipo and it went bonkers….maybe it could have been fun with a lipo battery and titan motor….has anyone tried that ?

threw the gopro on my hpi with drift tires…and chased a few cars

isnt the sound just awesome when it screams down the road at close to 40-50 mph

yeah that was my first onboard video…..camcorder was a vhs-C and considered compact for the time….would guess 4-5 pounds back from when most camcorders sat on your shoulder LOL

and from the “flimmer” you can see how the tape must have shaken inside the camcorder….

it survived…..i still have it to this day…..got one more tape to digitize….

more videos are certain to come….biggest problem is not so much size of the cameras….but how to isolate the vibrations that these small cars have

FCYKM 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆
That old vid. is very nice, like the rest of them 😛 😛 😛
I am thinking the Traxxas needs to go with cam on board to the neighbors jacuzzi and get some quality recon footage of the next door people shaggin down 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄
Just messing with ya, keep up the great on board vid’s, they are truly great.

SAW

no nitro….cant run them in the neighborhood….without “disturbing the peace”….back in the days i did run nitro had several cars (one at a time)

heres my inferno from 1993 (first inferno they made, with an old JVC camcorder mounted….man it was topheavy) sounds good though

since theres brushless i dont see any reason for nitro…other than their cool sound….i bet my vorza can keep up with any regular nitro buggy…batteries have come a long ways….back then the super duper sanyo bateries where 600 mah, today you can get AA with 2500 mah ! and lipo that can be charged with in 30-60 minutes, so with 2-3 sets and 2 cheap chargers you can basically drive all day non stop…..

brusless is the future……an soon lithium ion will take lipo’s place…and it wont even be dangerous to use the batts 🙂

theres actually quite a fwe nitro vs brushless on youtube showing that batteries can beat nitro (and vise versa)

I just checked out your vintage rc video. Pretty sweet!

I don’t see any Nitro cars… 😕 😈 😆

the duc is just a model…..but they do have a 999 in the store that looks mighty attractive 🙄

i allmost got one for each occasion..

and here i thought i just wanted the revo cause it could do it all….this hobby is just as expensive as airguns/mill/lathes etc…..but these toys alows me to play while taking care of kid….just dump him in a chair and he happily watches the cars go by for 30-60 minutes …

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CE5ZTVN0oN0 😈

quote Y:

So how many RC vehicles do you have now?

I was going to ask the exact same thing…

Is the Duc an rc as well?

So how many RC vehicles do you have now?

hammered my new little traxxas into the curb…..been raining quite a bit…so i thought great the traxxas is ok with water ill take that out for a spin in the puddles……fresh charge on the 7 cell nimh…..hit the puddle just right…..forgot about the weak brakes of brushed motors or at least this cars weak brakes…..hammered sidewas into the curb….

two trips to the hobby town USA….and all byt the upper arms was purchased….30 bucks….could have been worse, 18 bucks for a new set of shocks, 3 dollar for hub, and 3 dollars for camber arms(which is ordered) ohh and i couldnt help my self and bought bearings for the car too…after all it was home bruised and feeling bad…so i thought a set of bearings where the right thing to do to cheer the bandit up….(also allready shopping for spares for my sprint that has yet to have a single run on it)

allmost good again….camber arms they didnt have so i made something real quick out of an aluminum ruler not pretty but it works…and the bandit is ready for the puddles….

hopefully the postlady will show up with the new 8 cell 5Ah batt…..why nimh you might ask….well my lipo batts dont fit the tray….and im not sure if the ESC is lipo ready

This Rc stuff is as addicting as airguns if not even more

this HPI Sprint 2 Flux….is gonna get headlights….indicators etc….hopelfully a cylon/knightrider light as well….got drift tires ready to put on it

i see carbon chassis, and shock towers in its future….its belt driven…not sure i like that or not….will find out…centerdiff is locked, front diff can be upgraded to a one way one…..they say peppels get caut in the rear diff house…shredding the belt….we will see
