.25 Marauder
I bought a .25 Marauder from a wholesaler and it is due in Friday. Has anyone else received one yet?

Hi KM, the accuracy is OK. To be honest, I haven’t shot enough groups, or have I stretched out the JSB’s. I had a big national fluoroscopy test yesterday and I have been studying for it. That’s why I haven’t followed up with the pictures that I tried to post. Now that I have jumped through that hoop I’ll try to tie up some loose ends that I have put on the back burner in the last few weeks.
The 30 grain Kodiaks shoot best out of my gun so far. The short ranges that I take pests at is not a fair represntation of a pellets accuracy…they shoot well at 8 to 20 yards.
Steve, how was the accuracy with the JSB’s?

Here is a picture of the .25 caliber H&N Crow Magnum pellets before and
after. The first is an expaned modified CM. The second is an unfired
pellet. The third is an expanded unmodified pellet.

What size scope rings will work on the 25. m-rod, that will clear the clip? 🙄
Got mine gun to day, shot it with no scope to see how quite it is.
It needs a de-pinger for sure.

The scope rings would be your preference, the closer you get the scope to the gun the better it will shoot.
In other words you won’t have to allow so much hold over with low rings.

I’d had tryed this a few years ago, but never try them a live target.

The good news is that I got some Crow Magnum pellets today and I have some preliminary data. The bad news is that my kids have done something with my camera-to-computer cable so I can’t post the pics yet. Oh well.
The Crow Magnum pellets shot from my .25 Marauder are acceptable, but not great. At 30 yards I produced a 1/2″ group…2″ with the two flyers, one of which is definitely my fault. At my preferred rat killing distance of just 24 feet, they clustered tightly, but just a tad high…maybe 3/16″ high. They’ll do. At 70 yards, they were just about 2″ high. I didn’t shoot too many at the extended distance as I bought them for pest control and I do that at close range.
I shot an “as-is” CM into a one gallon jug of water. It opened up to 0.360″ from a nominal 0.250″. It completely penetrated the one gallon milk jug and bounced off of the second behind the first. That works.
The second jug-full-of-water-test was done using a Modified Crow Magnum, (that’s where the hollow point cavity is scored with a utility knife so as to cause the pellet to open up into four “petals” similar to some modern self defense pistol bullets) 😈 It did not completely penetrate the jug. It entered the jug and came to rest within. It did however open up like a pistol bullet! Its major dimension around 0.395″. This is where I need to post a picture. This is a devastating round as tonight’s rat harvest will prove. (Gotta find that cable!)

Well, my .25 caliber 25gr JSB Kings arrived. Unfortunately, my .25 Crow Magnums didn’t. They accidently sent me more .25 Kodiaks…that’s OK, my Marauder like’s the Kodiaks. Straight Shooters was good about it and is sending me 2 tins of Crow Magnums…I bought the pellets and they are buying the shipping. The rats will just have to wait until next week.
I shot a 26 shot string with the 25gr JSB Kings using a starting fill pressure at the top end of 3000psi. Here it is:

Some people aren’t satisified with chrony numbers…like me 😀 I prefer a more practical demonstration. While my “puny” little .25 won’t impress Tofaz, it does out perform .22’s. I like to shoot through one gallon plastic milk jugs that are full of water. .22 pellets usually only penetrate 1 1/2 jugs. The .25 did better.
The 30gr Kodiak penetrated 3 jugs and severly dented the fourth. 😀
The 25gr JSB King stopped inside the third jug.
The 20gr FTS was found inside the second jug. It’s performance resembles the .22…except it makes a larger hole as demonstrated by the first rat I took with a 20gr pellet, (see post under hunting section).
Knifemaker, this is the way it always is for me…I’l buy one of something to see how it works for me. If it works out good, then there won’t be any more available when I try to order more. If it works out bad, then there will be plenty more. I only bought five tins of the Kodiaks, therefore the next batch will be the wild ones you were talking about. But for now, the batch that I got with the gun is working well for me. I am honestly beaning little rocks at 97-103 yards with them, (yes, these are the rocks that I am aiming at!) I should have bought two of these .25 Marauders when I had the chance.
AirGunner…I don’t have any .177 caliber Predators. ‘ll have to do some measuring and see what might fit. It does sound like an interesting idea for short range. I’m sure that they would be wild at distance beyond a few feet, but you never know until you have tried.
Airgunner…you’re crazy! …fix a .177 predator pellet into the cavity of a .25 caliber Crow Magnum on a 50 FPE rifle? Wait a minute…that might work. Especially at the ridicously close range of 24 feet…on a fat rat…Hmmm. That might be accurate at such a close range. That might really expand at 50 FPE. I might have to try that 😉 thanks for the idea AG 😀

For me and others, the other wise fantastic Kodiaks seem to go un-stable at around 80 yards of so. You can see a slight cork screw in their flight, beginning at the apx. 80 yard mark. . The JSB’s aren’t exhibiting this tendency.
Several .25 fans have noticed this. Both here and on several other forums.

I have heard that about them. I also like the idea that they are 25gr which lies between the 20gr FTS and 30gr Kodiaks that I have been using. That could be a great compromise between power and accuracy. I’ll post my results.

I was shooting 100 yards with my new .25 Marauder. I was actually hitting little rocks up on the hillside between 97-103 yards, (lasered). I was using both the 20gr FTS and the 30gr Kodiaks. To my surprise, the accuracy was very good. I got three magazines, 24 shots, using the 2nd and 3rd mildots. The fourth magazine also had enough energy to make it up the hill, but I had to use the 4th and 5th mildots to compensate for the pressure drop. The gun’s pressure gauge said 1000psi, but my water filled gauge on my fill whip indicated that I had shot the gun down to 800psi. I really like this gun and will have to get a better scope for it…one with more magnification that is.
