.25 slugs
On the yellow forum in the classified section there is a guy selling .25 slugs 73 grain and 56 grain. my question is how fast do you think that we could push them down the barrel of a Condor. he tested them in a Sumatra carbine. I would post the link but I dont know how. The wife is in France 🙁 and took the brains with her. 😳

I’ve just read through the new materials on this thread. Hope I didn’t miss the point I wish to make:
Regarding “comparisons” … the only thing that would be relevant would be another slug which is also producing 100 fpe. Punching paper just as well (or better) at 100 yards, will not make a contender in the “big energy” pellet category.
The groups I’ve seen posted are nice work. And, goes without saying, that if you shot groups for an hour, you’d shoot a couple even better.
I designed this series of slugs, in order to provide folks with slugs that would really bring out the energy potential in your guns. “Mass” always trumps velocity in the energy formula.

GTBJ, there r more people (small group) that are ordering parts from CORBIN to custom swage slugs and such but, it is so new to mostly everyone that there are just not that many results and success stories with them. Plus, 1 other main factor is that most airgun barrels are CHOKED and some cast and swaged slugs don’t do well with them. The guys that ARE having great results aren’t making them in BULK for other people to buy. I have dealt with a few people that either manufacture a NEW TYPE pellet or cast there own slugs and there just never seems to be much interest even though a lot of people seem to want something new and different and heavy. So, hopefully WE can get some great results with the slugs Jerry’s casting and if i dont, it is still a work in progress. We would still have to try other sizes like .250″ or .249″ etc. It just takes so much time and research and testing to get the slugs off the ground. Then there just has to be the interest in them for the CASTER to make them in bulk. So it will probably b a while b4 someone to even start casting or swaging them in other calibers. And if someone is already doing it…i haven’t seen any post or offers to sell the product to customers.

very interesting thread going on here, some day when I grow up and convert to .25 I’ll definitely be contacting jerry, in the meantime I wish someone would swag something along those lines in .22….

Dont let the lack of comment discourage you. Many guys like to read but have no experience in the big bore stuff and dont want to dilute your thread information. You guys who post this stuff will provide the foundation for a many and spark interest for a lot of guys in the future to try big bore airguns.

Rob, 1st off, thanx for sharing your info and taking the time to post the pics. I too get frustrated by the lack of responses to the hard work you put forward. I see many people look at the post but no one (ok not all of you but some) ever has any input unless you put each pellet hole in hole. Then someone sais, “good group”. OOOOOOOOK!
Anyway, don’t give me too much credit now. Being serious here, i can only shoot as good as the ammo/gun/barrel combo. I actually went out in my garage and DETUNED the condor some and got some very consistent numbers with the 72.3 gr 9 ringers. I was shooting them at 850+ fps with a 10 fps drop after every shot. I changed out a few springs and did some dial tuning/adjusting and i then got:
72.3 gr/3000 psi fill
818.4 FPS
818.3 fps
810.6 fps
804.8 fps
Err2…..DAMNIT
Err2…..GOT DAMNIT!!
799.8 fps
So i got the gun WAY more consistent than the old 857 fps then 845 fps then 831 fps then 808 fps and so on and so on. So looks like I found some much needed air consumption efficiency that I SHOULD HAVE HAD a LOOOOONG TIME AGO. But i was just too power hungry back in the day. So, to make a long story much shorter, i am hoping to get awesome groups with the slugs. I am praying for the 62 grainers and the 72 grainers.
Wish me luck as i would really like to see Jerry’s projectiles take off. His project will possibly lead to better projectiles for the .25 which we all need. These ubber heavy slugs definitely have a place in our sport. I am really hoping to take a Ground Squirrel or 2 or a rabbit with the Heavy slugs. I should have plenty of pics and video. I will be smashing some water jugs with them and getting it on video against the DRAGON SLAYER and even shooting against the lighter Kodiaks and 42 gr Eun Jins.
You guys are right on. Your pellet choice should be driven by what you intend to do with it and how it performs for your particular type of shooting. 100 yards is a long way for an airgun and totally irrelevent for most shooters. It’s still neat to see though. 🙂
My interest in seeing these slugs go 100 yards was based on not knowing if they would remain stable when shot from a Condor/Talon. I wouldn’t want to recommend them to someone who regularly takes 80 yard shots at game if I did not know they continued to track beyond 50 yards.

Oh the effort is much appreciated; I just have ZERO experience shooting groups out to 100 yards to compare the results with. I’m sure others here are the same way. On some days at only 50 yards it takes me a few groups just to get settled in. All I know is the variables are multiplied at 100 yards, that is a very long shot for an airgun.
Thanks Butcher. I know I was curious to see how my 100 yard groups compared to others out there and I’d hate for my only comparison to be with Tofaz, who regularly shoots at that range and will make my groups look like shit ….
but you bring up a good point. Most folks do shoot at the shorter ranges, but seems that a lot of folks base how ‘good’ a pellet is by how well it groups at 75-100 yards.
For example, my HW97LK likes RWS Hollow Points. Dont know why, but I shoot JSB’s or Premiers in it and it scatters them. Throw in a RWS HP and it will STACK them at 30 yards. I’ve not done much with it at 50.. why? Because I know I’ll never shoot that gun at 50 yards.

I like the idea of comparison groups in theory but in practice they are very hard to get right. For instance, isolated groups shot on different days are clearly shot under different conditions and can be questioned. Groups shot on the same day at the same place are much better but might still be questioned if the gun is set-up better for one pellet than the other. You clearly need the gun running pretty hot to push a big slug but if you use that setting for a light (by comparison) pellet, you might be pushing it above its best speed. Or, your gun might be able to push the pellet at best speed but not be quite strong enough to get the heavy slug up to its optimum.
Of course, you’d need a lot of time, air, and pellets to figure out all the variables and make a near perfect comparison. The best we can hope for is that you get a chance to go out on a nice day and be able to shoot some different things back to back and see how they do. That would show us how the rounds you have compared on that day, out of your gun, and might inform those who have similar guns of any big differences you found under certain conditions.

I wanted to do a comparison group but got rained out. Tofaz is supposed to be doing some long range testing as well and I’m sure he’ll do much better than my groups.
I honestly didnt think they’d do that well at 100 yards. Surprised the shit out of me.
I’ll try to get some Kodiak groups soon. I dont have any EJ’s save for just about 3 left that some kind person sent me a while back. For 99.9% of my shooting, Kodiaks are fine, and if I need more, I’ll use these monsters.
For a good comparison, do you think you could do 100 yard groups with all of these? Just so we know?

They are with me. I just yesterday tested the Raptor .45’s…. very nice stuff. Groups really well and hits hard out of my little 909s.
