Well I had to nicely tell him not be silly. Just because the manufacturer is putting a larger barrel on a 17 cal power plant does not mean it is right. I tried to explain it.
Next thing you know the usual butt-heads come in with their 2 cents and their stories about 100 yard shooting with HW50s π
And we wonder why they sell us smooth twist barrels?
I thought we are supposed to teach people the right airgun principles.
You try to explain something to people that bigger caliber is sure is good provided you have that muzzle energy behind it.
I don’t get it… but I think airgun forums should be informative with the right information that teach people good, basic principles of airgunning and caliber selection.

RL’s 308 Condor the way it is set up is getting 180-190fpe. Which is about the same as then Korean big-bore do.
I agree with you that more can be pushed out of the Condor, I think 250-300fpe is doable with the .308 especially with a bigger bottle and larger valve diameter to correspond to 308 bore.
But it is a start.. 190fpe vs 12fpe is a big difference homeboy.. π

Barrel comes in with a nice 11 degree target crown. And I tell you Randy is constantly making things better..

Yeah, a valve that can’t even push the super heavy Surefire slugs to 1050fps and he’s going to try and push 308 slugs?!?
Surefire heavies 88 grains. Surefire 308s 155 grains.
Standard 308 bullets 100-200 grains.
Talk about underpowered. π
All the 308 customs i’ve seen here have custom valves, ultra heavy hammers and custom breaches (the large diameter bullets are too big for the stock breach opening)… There is no real way to get a Condor valve to do all of that. I hope he started making his valve stems from tool steel at the very least.
Here is one using 65grain 224 bullets in 308 sabots to keep the weight down..
Here is Cyg’s 457 500fpe conversion (totally huge valve) going 800’s with 240grain roundball…
I guess you need super light 308 rounds or something. π
